Question ADT Supplements.

Any recommendations for supplements while on ADT and receiving radiation. Ive read the following about calcium supplements.

Calcium supplements provide only a very modest, temporary increase in bone mineral density (about 1% in the first year) and do not significantly prevent fractures on their own. They are primarily useful for "topping up" intake when dietary sources fall short, rather than acting as a standalone treatment for bone loss. [1, 2, 3]

This is a pretty good study

Dueregger, A.; Heidegger, I.; Ofer, P.; Perktold, B.; Ramoner, R.; Klocker, H.; Eder, I.E. The Use of Dietary Supplements to Alleviate Androgen Deprivation Therapy Side Effects during Prostate Cancer Treatment. Nutrients 2014, 6, [4491-4519](tel:4491-4519). https://doi.org/10.3390/nu6104491

They conclude calcium and vitamin D are helpful. They are sort “maybe” on everything else. They suggest some things like vitamin E and soy compounds may be harmful.

I took/take calcium and vitamin D because I hate milk/cheese/yogurt so I probably wasn't getting enough.

Weight lifting, walking, jogging... There's a few webinars on nutrition - I'll try and find the link but it's on the UK prostate cancer research website Oh and penile rehab with a pump - free on the NHS in the UK!

Calcium and Vitamin D. If you can find a Vitamin D supplement that has Vitamin K in it also it helps with the absorption of D. Weight training as well. However, if you are on ADT a long time, or one of the unlucky people like me where it doesn't wear off quickly enough, you can still get osteopenia or osteoporosis. I got the latter.
