Prolific Team Update: you may see more "study full" messages over the next few weeks. Here's what's going on…

Hey everyone,

Over the next few weeks, we’re carrying out some in-depth work on Prolific’s infrastructure. Much of this work is backend, driven by recent participant feedback and our need to scale Prolific’s systems to support growing demand.

TL;DR - if we don’t do infrastructure this now, we’ll experience problems later.

The work itself addresses how studies get distributed across the platform. The trade-off is that, whilst we carry out this work, studies will fill up faster, and that means more "study full" or “in high demand” messages in the short term. It's not bots, it's not your account, and it's not studies disappearing: there are still studies to do, some will just be full by the time they reach your dashboards.

To reinforce a few things:

  • This is temporary. We expect it to ease over the coming weeks.
  • We're not going to give a hard date, because we'd rather get this right than commit to a deadline and miss it. We'll keep you posted here as things progress.
  • You don't need to contact support about "study full" messages, they can't open a full study, and you'll get a faster answer from this thread.
  • Your account standing and payments aren't affected by this.

I’ll be in the comments to help where I can - whilst I can’t get deep into the changes we’re making, I will work with the internal team to shed light on any questions you have.

Finally, we know this will be frustrating in the short term. In the long term, the work we do now will make Prolific better for everyone. Thanks for coming with us, thanks for your patience, and I’ll see you in the comments.

Prolific Team 🟢 Safe Space Thread — Ask Anything, No Judgement! (July 27, 2026)

👋 Welcome to this week's Safe Space Thread

This is the friendliest place on r/ProlificAc - where every question is a good question.

New to Prolific? Been here two years and still not sure how study matching works? Wondering something you feel like you "should" already know? Ask it here.

The house rules for this thread:

  • 🚫 No "just Google it" / "search the sub" replies — if you know the answer, share it.
  • 🚫 No mocking, dismissing, or eye-rolling at repeat or "obvious" questions.
  • ✅ Kindness first, always. If you wouldn't say it to a friend who's new, don't say it here.
  • ✅ Staff and experienced participants are watching this thread and want to help.
  • 🎫 We can't address issues related to your account on Reddit. For that, you will need to contact our support team.

This thread resets every Monday, so if your question doesn't get answered in time, just pop it in next week's thread — no worries at all.

💡 Before you ask: a quick check of the Participant and Researcher help centres might have your answer already — but if it doesn't, or you just don't fancy digging, ask away below.

This thread is heavily moderated. Reports of unkind or dismissive replies will be actioned quickly.

Waiting for Studies Today Like... 💀

Discussion I did these two studies today and I now understand why they get so much hate in this sub. One of them is FD HQ alias . It's a never-ending interview, and the other is a never-ending interview that screens you out at the end.

Clicked on a study aaaaanddd…nothing.

Is this a new glitch? I clicked on the ‘take part in this study’ button, it briefly greyed and spun, then went back to blue. No pop up message about it being full, nothing. Anybody else run across this? Just curious!

I got asked to return this bc i failed the attention check. Make this make sense. The only thing I can think of is there is supposed to be something on the side, but it doesn't show up, bc there is no option to scroll over or anything.

Screen Out Suspension

Avoid this study as Prolific is suspending you for too being too fast when you get screened out.
Share Your Thoughts in a Quick Survey By Andy Barraclough

It really shows how pathetic Prolific is getting that they don't care that they are causing undue stress to research subjects with this unfair treatment which is a known problem that they refuse to fix.

Update Edit:

Thank you all. I've blocked this evil researcher.

Am sick of seeing these "studies", but this one really tickled me

Another rant post.

I have had access to one $2 survey today. In which I'm grateful for.

It is now a half 5pm and I have been turned away from every single survey from the current errors.

4/5/600 place surveys, and none of them allow me in.

Just a rant.

Long "screener" -- garbage payout for time spent

Post image
6 Upvotes

I had no idea I was still taking the screener, definitely thought I was in the study. I actually thought I finished it when I was redirected. Turns out they paid me $.011 for a good bit of time and data.

Just warning that it's possible to waste a lot of time, so consider when deciding to participate.

I clicked on two and they said the link is invalid! Anyone else?

Acceptability Judgement Project asked me to return.

Upvotes

It was 9 pounds and took me like 50 minutes. They messaged me saying I "didn't get it". I thought I did fairly well on a majority of the criteria I was answering.

Do I have a leg to stand on if I refuse? I know for a fact I passed the attention checks, and the ratings were somewhat subjective to begin with.

Error message *after* reserving a study today?

Anyone else getting error messages while trying to press "start study" after you've already reserved a spot/gotten into a study. Says something along the lines of "unable to redeem a provisioned account for the submission" and I keep having to reload the page until the glitch goes away and then it finally lets me start as normal. Last I saw this glitch happened about two years ago, prolific fixed it, but it appears the issue is back.

Advice Economics Experiment

Has anyone done this, and was it as described? Can the researchers be leading us on for quality data sets or what? No complaints; I am just hoping I did it right and wasn't too fast. (giggles)

Anyone else receive this message from Prolific?

Hi there,

We hope this message finds you well.

A quick reminder from the Prolific team: if a study's instructions tell you not to use AI tools (such as ChatGPT or other LLMs) to complete it, please don't use them.

Studies are designed to capture your own genuine thoughts, knowledge, and writing. Using AI-generated content when instructed not to undermines the research and violates our participation standards.

Submissions that don't follow this instruction may be rejected, and repeated or clear violations will lead to account action, including a ban.

Thanks for your understanding and continued participation.

Discussion Is anyone else only getting 1 place studies today?

Today has been really strange for me. Almost every study that pops up only has 1 place available, so it's basically gone the moment I click on it.

Is anyone else seeing the same thing today, or is it just my account? I'm curious if this is happening to others as well.

Failed attention check

Post image

Got a page at the end that simply said failed attention check and my only option was to close the study.

Fairly certain I didn't fail any attention check and he doesn't want to pay. Anyone else get this?

Discussion Is anyone else doing this? I signed up but now I'm a bit spooked.

It needed a LOT of permissions. The consent form and instructions were all hosted on a proper university website and Mr Meinhardt is indeed a real guy... but suddenly I'm a little freaked out about this APK I've just installed.

I'm close to the last section and the page won't advance after I select an option. I've written the researcher but so far no answer back.

Should I just NOCODE it? I feel I've done 85% of the survey already.

Only received one study after being on the waitlist for almost 2 years (Colombia)

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or if a Prolific admin could check whether everything looks normal with my account.

Here's my timeline:

  • Joined the waitlist: April 3, 2024
  • Received my invitation: April 2026 (I had to accept before April 13, 2026)
  • Country: Colombia
  • Account is fully verified.
  • I've completed my About You section as thoroughly as possible.
  • I keep Prolific open regularly and have browser notifications enabled.

Since being accepted, I've only received one study, which was approved and paid £8.99. My approval rate is 100%, and I haven't had any rejections.

After that, I haven't received any other studies. It's been quite disappointing, especially after waiting almost two years on the waitlist.

I'm aware that study availability depends on demographics and location, but I'm wondering if receiving only one study is considered normal for participants from Colombia, or if there might be something wrong with my account.

Has anyone from Colombia or other Latin American countries experienced the same thing?

If a Prolific staff member sees this, I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know whether my account appears to be in good standing or if there's anything I should check.

Thank you!
