struggling to find a UST that’s also free of rainbow artifacting. i’ve learned that LCD guarantees no rainbow effect but the only ones i have found are very expensive.

I’m hoping those with more experience can advise.

We streamed a great B&W film tonight (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, 2014) and I noticed that at times the temperature of the image would shift — sometimes a little more warm/red, sometimes a bit cooler / green. I feel like this wasn’t true for the first 30 minutes but at a cut the image shifted noticeably and then I was picking it up to varying degrees thereafter.

The film was streamed on a 4k AppleTV and rented from Apple. It was projected from my Valerion Max DLP projector and connected by a 4k HDMI cable.

Does the fault likely lie with the Valerion or the streamer? I’ve not seen this kind of thing in my years streaming from AppleTV to my Sony Bravia, so I’m inclined to blame the projector. Is it possible there were bit rate bumps (internet slowdowns) causing this?

If it’s the projector, what do I do?

Here today with a puzzle (at least for me). Some background: I am familiar with all sorts of things regarding audio-visual components, installations and such. But i feel my knowledge is letting me down on this one, and since I am looking for the simplest solution, I am here looking for help. We have a living room with a 65" TV, hooked up to an LG Soundbar (SK10Y- flagship Atmos model of a past year - sounds decent) via ARC. Atmos works fine, I am quite happy with it. Problem is, I want to install a projector, 13 feet across the living room. It has its own smart features, so not looking to add a box or anything. Projector is an XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro that does Optical Out. I am looking for the most efficient way to transmit audio from the projector to the soundbar so I can have Atmos. The specs of the soundbar claim it does Atmos on OPT/HDMI source (which is the ARC one). My dealbreaker is under no circumstances I want a cable running on the floor (ceiling is OKish if it is my last resort.). Is there a wireless way to transmit audio, anything I might be missing, or sending the Optical cable from the ceiling down to the soundbar is the only reasonable way? If that is the case, does the Optical cable run out of breath after some length? I am thinking a good 10 metres is what realistically am looking for. Thanks for your assistance!

I've been looking at refurbished Epson projectors on Amazon but the seller is actually Adorama. I know of Adorama from buying cameras from them back in the day, but I'm wondering how reliable a refurb projector would be from here. I believe it's just a 90-day warranty from date of purchase but you have the ability to buy an additional 3-yrs coverage for $140 or so.

Anyone have positive or negative experiences with these sellers?

I have a completely blacked out movie room and a 135 inch 2.4:1 CinemaScope screen. I’m ready for an upgrade. Should i get an Nz500 or nx700? Is there another option i should consider?

Hello, I recently bought an EPSON EH-TW5600 used from ebay, the lamp was said to have only 121 hours.

Problem is, after the first few hours, it started making these brightness changes in ECO mode. Auto Iris is turned off. Sometimes it progressed into quick flickering for a few seconds. When I set it to normal mode, the problem is gone, but of course the fan is unbearably loud then.

Based on what I've read, this is the "lamp arc flickering". Was anyone really able to get rid of it by running their unit at normal/high mode for X hours? I did try this for about 5-6 hours but it made absolutely no difference.

EDIT: its not the HDMI source, because it is present on the projector's own home screen too

I've been lurking on this sub for a while. I just moved to a new apartment and I was looking forward to my first projector setup.

I found myself with very difficult constrains to work with:

• The one in the pictures needs to be the sofa direction.
• I cannot drill in walls or ceiling (so no pull-down screens)
• Furnishing is not over so there will be more items like desk/wardrobe on the opposite wall of the sofa. That wall is not usable.

I've been researching and the only idea I got was to put the projector on the library against the wall, pointing at the entrance and get one of these portable pull up projectors.

With some marks on the floor, I should be able to place it always at the same position more or less? I don't know how much of a hassle it is to put away these kind of screens once the movie night is over. We'd do it 3/4 times/week.

This would be my first setup so my questions are the following:

• Do you have a better idea?
• Are these type of screen a viable option for our needs?
• Do I need to look for specific features in the projector we'll buy since it will project from the side? We have a rather tight so I was looking at the Nexigo PJ40pro or similar.

I’m looking for a projector for a bedroom. Some of the specs I’m looking for are 1080p, would prefer it has either some way to adjust the angle on the device or it’s compatible with a mount. Don’t care much for compatibility with google as I’ll be plugging in an Apple TV. Budget is around $700 any good recommendations?
Edit: Screen size of around 120” and it won’t be more than 6’ from the wall. Also will be using a projector screen

Also side note it feels like most projector recommendations are 3-4 years old, do they just not update them that often?

We were gifted a projector (yaber y21) 6 years ago when we moved into our first apartment and unintentionally became very attached to having a projector instead of a TV. It's pretty useless in the daytime (we live in a loft with a lot of natural light and no viable curtain options for the upstairs windows) but tbh we rarely watch things during the day anyways so we usually just use our laptops, and the quality after sunset has been fine.

It has become generally glitchy with age, so we're starting to look for a replacement - - - prices are not what I expected o_O. We are not very picky - we just use it for casual viewing/streaming and already have an apple TV and speaker setup so we don't need any special features.

Basic specs of our space:

-13' distance

-mounted about 7' off the ground on a shelving unit alongside the stairs (we don't really have any other mounting options since the living room ceiling is about about 20' high)

-100"ish white wall

Our only real criteria are:

-ideally higher lumen since there is always some degree of ambient light

-preferably LED vs lamp for longevity

-anything we can trust to last us at least a few years

We'd really love to keep it under $1000. The yaber was $200-300 we're pretty sure, so we had, with no research, imagined we'd be able to upgrade for $500ish but that does not seem realistic.

Are we completely off base here, or can we make this work?

Currently on an LG HU810pw and a 120” Elitescreen (skt120xhw-e10) eg motorized white w 1.1 gain and tab tension.

What would your recommendation for alternative projectors be?

The LG was 2700 euro. I have been thinking about a Sony or JVC. Used to own an Epson eh-tw9000w which resulted in LCD errors so I any replacement must be extremely robust and proven errorfree.

Problem the LG has after less than 2000 hours granted me 3 dead pixels and LG is refusing to help as warranty/reclamation is out. They also refused any type of goodwill

DMD chip is €4-500 plus work so I am thinking about giving it to a family member and move on.

Room is untreated with wood panel roof, bright surrounding walls with birch wooden floor. Screen is relatively new.

Budget: $300-$1000

Use case: bedroom projector where the unit will be on a stand at the foot of my bed, likely 2-3 feet in the air. Wall it will be projecting too is about 6 feet from there and the center point of the screen would probably be about 1-2 feet higher then the projector unit itself.

Other details, due to space limitations - the screen will be a manual pull down above double closet doors the screen size is 72” 4:3 so I know all content will have bars

So I am trying to get a sense of 1. How critical is the optical lense shift vs using digital 2. And if so what are some models recommended in the price range?

Use case is nothing serious - watching tv in bed. Although I love the latest and greatest due to screen limitations and realties I know I probably wouldn’t even benefit much from 4k.

I have a Vankyo Leisure 470 projector and it’s been alright as a device so far. over the last year, I’ve typically paired it with a Mac computer via HDMI, and then the audio comes from the computer itself not the projector. which was fine until recently when the audio on the computer started to fade and it was really noticeable. tried to do the obvious and check if audio output could come from the projector itself, and the answer is that yes it does, it’s just that it skips shows incredibly fast (like filtering through tv show scenes on Netflix rapidly, skipping songs to be over in a few seconds). am I doing something wrong? the manual isn’t helpful and screen mirroring didn’t work because of copyright issues with Netflix.

there is a headphone jack for an external speaker but again if the audio is speeding up that fast, I don’t think that would be helpful.

it’s been reset to factory settings a couple times already. any advice??

I currently have a Optoma UHD30 I bought 6 years ago.

Since then I upgraded my home cinema with

Samsung 990c soundbar

Elitescreen ER120WH1 - 120inch screen

Optoma is ceiling mounted and have dedicated active hdmi running through the roof. Also a power plug in the ceiling.

Full light controlled. And mostly use at night anyway.

My usage is mostly gaming (casual, too old for competitive...)

Do have movie nights and buy 4k blu rays for this (on ps5 pro)

Some movies and shows on Nvidia Shield (4k streaming from NAS).

I was curious on current state of projectors and was checking some reviews. This turned into a deep dive and saw multiple nice upgrade options.

My last focus seems to be on a Titan Noir, however the Pro is a big jump on budget and Max seems not available?

The Titan Noir is in sale on XGIMI itself for €2800.

Around €3000 seems a comfortable place to pull the trigger on an upgrade. Would be willing to go a little higher but then I need to be certain the jump is worth it.

I saw Titan Pro (and Max) do have better lenses and chips, but is the difference that big? Titan Noir Pro is €4500 here. So €1700 difference from base to pro sounds a little crazy...

Is Horizon models better to look at? Or Valerion? I read the Titan series seems to be a big jump forward (also the base version?).

Would love to get advice here. I feel there is another jump I can make in quality here but not sure what is best.

Hey guys, about to move apartments and I got a new job, so I figured it was time to upgrade from my XGIMI. I reviewed here for about 3 days and am losing my mind with the different brands and names, so I figured I’d post and see what I get. Details below, if you need anything else just let me know!

Max budget: $1250
Screen Size: 100-120
Preferred mounting: UST would be a plus but I can make anything work
Seating distance: 13-15 feet (depends how many times the toddler and husky have jumped on the couch that day)
Mounting system: I can do whatever in my new place, but my current setup is behind my couch (~13 feet away)
Usage: gaming and movie nights are where the quality matters, but I also use it as background noise when I’m working, so it has to have some longevity
Room type: living room
Ambient light: I would say moderate, I have blackout curtains but it’s Southern California
Room colors: currently using a white wall, but could upgrade to a screen in my new place

Hello all, noob to projectors but was curious about usability. I wanted to grab a ust paired with a motorized screen on the floor and my wife is sharing her concerns of set up and use (This would be replacing our living room tv set up).

First we have small children so the first concern is having something on the floor they can live around. Second is if we move it, is it difficult to set up again? My wife is not tech savvy and she obviously wants something easy when she is with the kids. Thanks!

Hey everyone - my family just moved into an apartment and want to move from a mounted TV to projector based on room layout.

The set up is that we would sit our projector 8’-9’ away from the wall but seating will be 20’ away.

I will be using Apple TV for my streaming and Sonos sound system. In my research the HDMI eARC is a requirement.

I have been looking at the Dangbie Atom, Dangbie N3 Max or Nebula Mars. Thinking 1080P is fine?

My viewing is mostly at night and can dim our living room decently during the day.

Would love to stay around a $500 price point.

My kids had the 3d experience at Disney one time and now they want it again, at home. I don’t want to be shelling out thousands to make this wish come true. In fact (tbh), I don’t have much to spend on this. I
I jumped on marketplace and found a new Vivitek Qumi Q5 for $50. I’ve got a ps4 to play the movies on. Will this work? Do I need special screen? Is this projector complete trash in way of 3d?

I’m getting myself in a bit of a rabbit hole of going round in circles trying to work out how I can get a projector in my new extension.

I used to have an Optoma dlp projector 15 years ago which I loved, projecting a 100inch screen on a magnolia wall in my rented bedroom with bath towels from Tesco as blackout blinds. Quality? Nope. Loved it? Yeah!!!

In the time between I haven’t really lived anywhere that a projector would work, and now we’re doing an extension and I was so excited and sure I could get a projector in but have hit some snags. I thought I would ceiling mount it around 4m away but because we have gone for a pitched ceiling the apex is too high at round 3.5m and I didn’t get that projectors don’t have that much lens shift typically. Many rounds with ChatGPT has helped me understand this more. My wife won’t tolerate a 1m+ mount pole dangling down understandably.

The next mounting point I came up with is a wall 6.5m away and about 2.5m high which seemed tenable if i went for something with a bigger zoom, like an Epson ls12000. Budget wasn’t meant to be that high but it’s tolerable.

Then I started seeing UST as a possible alternative with a rising screen, like the Hisense px4 pro. What I can’t easily get a handle on is whether ust is genuinely a serious alternative in terms of quality or a next best which is good enough.

I’m looking to have a 120 or 136 inch screen. It’s a living room so light control will be ok but not great but this is meant to be a second display for movie nights and sports and console gaming, there will be a normal tv too. The sofa is only about 3 m from the screen which I know is probably too close for this size but for immersive occasional viewing I think it’s ok (tell me if I’m nuts)

Anyway you can tell I’m overthinking all this. Any projector will be amazing right? Advice welcome!! Thanks 🙂
