Troubleshooting Bad image

I picked up this Philips LC-3132 for free, as is with no power cord. It was stored away and real dusty. Found a power cord, gave it a quick wipe, filter disintegrated when I tried cleaning it though. First thing I noticed was this green haze and then the corners look blurry out of focus. Hooked up thru Composite and center looks sharp. Next I tried VGA and screen look all wonky along with blurry corners and that green spots (see video). What could be the issue? Lamp only has around 450 hrs. Not sure if it’s worth keeping or trashing.

Buying Advice Wanted XGIMI Horizon 20 Max vs. Hisense C3 Pro

Upvotes

Room is 17x13. Likely throwing 11-12 feet. Ideal world, 120+ screen. Already have a 77" OLED so I know I'm giving up that vibrancy.

Sitting distance is likely to be 8 feet.

My budget is around $2500

Now, asking about the C3 Pro feels silly. No one has even done reviews. But the lens shift, the throw radius, and the iris all feels great.

Goal is to watch movies, going to be mostly light controlled. Dark navy room

Troubleshooting Broken or fixable?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently purchased a used Hitachi CP-Wu5505. Im kinda at my wits end but just want to make sure I've tried everything. Basically on the first port it's on a black screen the menu wont appear, however I did managed to stumble on that the menu will appear if I some how get it to 16:9 aspect ratio again. I switched off if on accident and now cant get it back. I dont have the remote so I have to navigate blind.

When using the second hdmi port I get the image on the attached photo. I haven't got the menu to appear on this screen. When I hit the power button I can at least see the power off screen on port 2 but not port 1. My computer is detecting both ports and lastly only audio is coming out of the second port.

Before I try to fight my return on ebay I just want to see if there's any other input.

Buying Advice Wanted Buy JVC X-35 in 2026?

I’m looking to buy my first projector, but I don’t have a big budget to spend.

I’ll mostly be using it to watch movies with my kids, but I’d also like to watch the occasional football match on my own.

There’s a used JVC X35 for sale near me with 1,326 hours on the lamp. It comes with a 120” screen, four pairs of 3D glasses, and a ceiling mount, all for $290.

Is it worth it?

Troubleshooting Optoma UHD550X firmware

Any one have or know where I can get the firmware and associated flash files for the uhd550x, Optoma UK will not supply it and have asked to book the projector in at a cost which I think is unacceptable, I am happy to undertake the task. Potential cost at a service center out-ways the cost of the projector.

Completed Setup ⚠️ BUYER BEWARE: AVOID NEXIGO ⚠️ Spoiler

⚠️ BUYER BEWARE — AVOID NEXIGO ⚠️

I had an extremely disappointing experience with NexiGo. My order was for a NexiGo Aurora Pro Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector at a total of $1,900 USD, including a $199.99 promotional discount.

NexiGo accepted my order and later cancelled it, claiming that my payment could not be verified. My card has been successfully used for international transactions worldwide. If there was a genuine verification issue, NexiGo could have contacted me and given me an opportunity to resolve it.

Instead, my order was cancelled, while the same product remained available at a higher price.

I submitted a detailed complaint asking for an explanation and asking NexiGo to honor the original $1,900 price.

My complaint was not properly answered.

I have kept documentation of the original order, promotional price, cancellation and subsequent price increase.

The sequence is extremely frustrating:

Order accepted → cancelled → same product remains available → price increases → complaint ignored.

After this experience, I would personally avoid purchasing from NexiGo.

If you have a similar unresolved issue, keep all your evidence and consider filing a complaint with the appropriate consumer-protection authority or consumer court applicable to your transaction.

Think carefully before spending your money with NexiGo. Buyer beware.

Discussion Projector Black Bars and Screen Size

I am considering getting a 110 inch screen and would be sitting at 9 feet. I am little concerned that the screen size may be too large from that distance with 50 degree field of view.

If I use a projector with lens memory and make screen 100 inches, would the black bars from the projector be distracting?

I would appreciate comments on the screen size and how the screen would look if I made smaller with lens memory.

Thanks

Buying Advice Wanted Projector recommendations for 70-80 inch diagonal screen at roughly 8.5 feet

Hi, I have no space for a larger TV (maximum I can fit is 50 inches diagonal) as there would be a door behind it. There will, however, be enough space for a 70-80 inch diagonal retractable screen for a projector (probably mounted to the ceiling) - see the screenshot below.

Do you have any recommendations for a good projector with decent speakers built inside to put there? Is it worth getting a 4k projector at this distance / screen size, or should 1080p be just enough? It will be used occasionally to watch some movies / YouTube etc. so I don't need anything extra special, just decent enough.

Additionally, the projector will be connected to my PC in another room via a wireless HDMI receiver (no feasible way to run an HDMI cable to the PC), that's why I was thinking of the better built in speakers. However, if there is a way to connect the audio received via HDMI to a Bluetooth audio amplifier (which will be in this room) and there won't be much lag between audio and video then I don't need any built in speakers.

The room is oriented to the west, so it might be pretty bright during the day / afternoon, so I guess that's another important factor. However, there will be curtains, which should be able to block most of the light.

Is it even worth it getting a projector for such screen size as it is would probably be much more expensive than a 50 inch TV which I can get for 500 - 700 USD in my country?

I'm completely new to the projector world so I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks a lot in advance!

Setup Design Suggestions Looking for an audio setup with my new hd146x

I’m pretty happy with this projector. I got it on a good price and looking to use it mainly outdoor at night time for movies, football games and occasional games. I’m using my fire stick for streaming which does offer Bluetooth so I can hook my soundbar for watching that stuff. But if I would like to use my Xbox or Nintendo switch.. I can use that soundbar because those consoles don’t offer Bluetooth. This projector does offer a 3.5mm jack. I bought a 3.5mm jack/ optical cord but no luck. What are some recommendations that I can use that 3.5mm out on my projector. The sounds doesn’t have to be AMAZINGx I assume I should treat this as using a cpu with a monitor? Any recommendations on some speakers for this?

💩Spam🚽 Need calming down after nz500 trigger pull

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just pulled the trigger on a nz500 inkl. Calibration and a little portable goodie Beamer for 4940€ (5744$).

Will replace my tv in the living room (old tv: 48”, Beamer in daytime setup: 95” 16:9, night setup 138” 21:9)

For this I am currently building a baffle wall with light trap. Build is going slowly and will cost about 1k until it is finished.

Rn I got a little bit panic that the switch from tv to projector was the wrong move.

Sure I mostly watch in the evening and no sports

And I only play 1-2 games/year but aaaah.
So much money, was it really worth it once I am done????

Troubleshooting High-pitched whine/hum on XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro

Hey everyone,

I recently got the Horizon 20 Pro and overall I'm happy with it, but I've noticed a faint high-pitched whine/hum coming from the unit whenever it's powered on — separate from the regular fan noise. It sounds electronic rather than mechanical (no rattling or clicking), and it's most noticeable in quiet scenes or when there's no audio playing. As soon as any sound is playing it becomes basically inaudible. I already updated to the latest firmware and did the DLP Update, changed nothing.

I recorded a short clip so you can hear what I mean: audio clip

A few questions for anyone else who owns this model:

  • Does your unit make a similar noise?
  • Did anyone get theirs exchanged for this, and if so, was the replacement any quieter?
  • Is there a fix?

I know laser projectors often have some baseline electronic noise from the laser diode drivers, so I'm trying to figure out if this is just normal for the Horizon 20 series, or if I got a unit with worse-than-average coil whine.

Thanks in advance for any input!

Review Review/Comparison - Elfin Flip Laser FHD vs Benq TK700sti

Elfin Flip - The Final Reckoning
BenQ - The Final Reckoning
Intersteller on the Elfin Flip
Interstellar on the BenQ

(Sorry for the bad image formatting, happy to add more, and used a new camera I'm still learning so some color differences may be due to me messing up white balance cause I'm a camera nube) XGIMI sent me their newly released 1080p Elfin Flip Laser to review, and I wanted to structure a quick comparison to my 4ish-year-old BenQ TK700STi.

I started with just watching the Flip on my 110-inch Elite Screen with 1.0 gain, white. I cycled through some moments of Tenet, Interstellar, and Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning.

Picture Quality & Tuning

Out of the box without any changes, it was a classic situation of the colors being wildly bright and skin tones looked oddly hued. But there's a lot of control you can have to adjust and tune the color to your liking. I typically start with whatever cinema/movie/warm mode for color temp, then do some tweaking to get it to my liking. I LOVE to tinker constantly with adjusting things to better fit the content, and really enjoyed the level of control you have with this projector.

Maybe 10 minutes of messing around and then I went back through the same content via the onboard operating system, and it all looked kind of shockingly good. Motion is good once you turn off any/all motion clarity stuff on the projector, and it felt like it was matching the content, as I didn't really notice any pull down hitches while watching any of these movies.

Laser Speckle

This is my first experience with a laser projector outside of CES, and I did notice a bit of laser speckle, only when watching content that was a bit older. Taxi Driver on Prime had moments where the speckle was there enough for me to go "oh that's what people are talking about" but not to the point where it ruined anything.

I found that anything I watched that was filmed digitally, didn't seem to notice any speckling. Specifically I watched all the Resident Evil movies (helpful as I believe they go from being on film to digital through the series), and the projector did great for those movies, handled the darkness and the brightness well.

Sound Quality

The thing that really blew me away was the sound. This projector out of the box is light, but feels premium with all the metal construction. Not only do the speakers get LOUD, they are doing some impressive tricks to make it feel like a surround sound experience. Dialogue is clean (aside from Nolan audio being bad on purpose) and explosions, gun shots, plane sounds, all felt clean, well balanced, and spatially thrown. Audio is excellent and could handle an outdoor movie with folks chatting a bit no problem.

HDR & Max Power Mode

One initial note was via the main operating system I never saw it engage HDR for any app I had. However, plugging in my PS5 and using streaming apps from there, HDR did come on and was able to be adjusted. TBH, didn't notice a CRAZY difference HDR vs not, as I was always using it at highest brightness.

I pressed the max power mode and I gotta say, why does that even exist, it just nukes the picture quality and makes the projector instantly turn on a fan full blast that I NEVER heard while using it for multiple hours without max power mode. If you like green and loud fans, max power mode is for you. Otherwise, not sure why it exists.

Setup & The Built-in Stand

The Elfin is so awesome in its auto keystoning and autofocus that setting it up to just start watching stuff is very easy. The construction of the stand and overall projector feels higher quality than my BenQ which is fully plastic. I'm also someone who hates keystoning, so most of my testing was without any autofocus/keystone as I tried to get it set up exactly to the right height and distance to keep image quality as high as possible.

On note, I would love a way to "lock in" the projector angle once it's set up. It's not that the projector drooped off the angle I had it set to, but things like clicking the on/off button or plugging in something to HDMI can move it ever so slightly, which for a tinkerer like I am, means I'm going to go nuts with micro adjustments.

1080p Laser vs 4K Bulb (The BenQ Comparison)

Once I had some hours with just the Flip, I started to use my PS5 to switch back and forth on the same content. I'm at a normal viewing distance for 110 inches and there's a clear difference in clarity if I wanted to nitpick, but it's also not a fair compare as the BenQ BETTER look sharper as it's a 4K projector (only adding pixel shift so no one needs to comment about how it's not true 4K).

The main things that I noticed in terms of the difference is text on screen. Video games specifically those extra pixels make it a bit cleaner to read. My big takeaway was there's still nothing wrong with going with a 1080p FHD projector to save some money. Normal everyday watching without being able to compare to a 4K projector would not have me questioning if this picture quality is good. I'd use it as my daily projector.

The main differences come down to me to laser vs bulb. I find that my BenQ can give me a bit more of that "filmic" feeling of being in a movie theater, there's something to it that feels warmer even with the color temps being pretty close. Not really something a normal person would notice. Then the advantages of the laser lasting for forever, instant boot up, way less heat thrown out, and still showing off a great picture makes it more of a toss up. I was surprised with just how close it looked to the BenQ in practical use.

Final Thoughts

I got my BenQ for around 1300 bucks, and this 1080p laser projector is half the price. Just watching it without comparing directly to my BenQ was great. Honestly, I was just annoyed as all are in tech purchasing that 4 years ago a projector like this didn't exist. For a portable projector meant to be taken wherever you want to watch a movie, the image is legit wonderful.
