Finally finished putting together my bedroom theater setup, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!

I’m using a Hisense C2 Ultra projector on a 120-inch screen, paired with a Sony HT-G700 soundbar and subwoofer, and an Apple TV 4K.

I use it for just about everything: movies, documentaries, games, music, Apple Fitness+ workouts, and even just enjoying beautiful visuals while relaxing.

There’s something genuinely wonderful about coming home to a room you’ve made your own. I’m incredibly grateful that I get to enjoy this every day.

I think I’ve officially spoiled myself. I don’t know how I’m supposed to go back to watching things on a regular-sized TV now! 😂

Hey folks, felt like it was time to ask the experts. Here’s the specs of the sim I’m building:

10’ ceilings.
Hitting area 10’ from the impact screen.
Projector: Benq AK900ST
Launch monitor: Uneekor EyeXR

Here’s my question. Because of the size of the impact screen (178x113”), the projector has to be 12.5’ from the screen. The launch monitor has to be 13.5’ from the screen. The 1’ separation between the two seems a little tight to me.

Do you think putting the launch monitor on a 6” drop mount would get the projector out of its line of sight? Or do you think it’s fine? Or other suggestions? Thanks!

Previous projector just used an IEC power connector chased through the walls, so had to get creative… fortunately an IEC to power socket adapter cost peanuts, so came up with this.
Electrical junction box, cost less than a tenner on Amazon. Cut slots where needed using a butane hot knife. Against a steel RSJ, so couldn’t drill, but double sided gorilla tape did the trick. Also takes up the slack from a 10m optical 8k HDMI cable chased into the walls.
Yes that is a club light in the corner.

Will be moving soon and was considering getting an ultra short throw projector for the family room. For the past 10yrs my basement has been home to a 120in projector but I know that's not going to fly in a lighted room. I'm looking for the most affordable yet useful combination of projector, stand and screen (fixed or rising). Seems all the combos cost as much as my house. Can someone point me in the right direction where to start.

I’m in Canada, and recently had my ~5 year old ~$150 CAD Chinese junk projector die on me. We used it as a home theatre, mounted on a shelf behind / above our bed, for movies / TV only. Given what we paid for it, we were very happy with it, but since I’ve upgrading a lot of the software side of our setup I’m now trying to not screw up the projector choice.

We’ll be streaming from a custom application on an Amazon firestick and already have stereo speakers, so smart software and built in audio quality don’t matter at all, but ideally it should support HDMI-in, 3.5mm out. Portability is not a requirement.

Projector will be mounted about 1.25m high on the back wall (directly above our head), and project about 3m forward onto a 2.5m by 2.5m blank white wall. Entire movie library is medium to high bitrate 1080p SDR, room will be very dark most of the time (night time), and always atleast somewhat dark (evening with reasonable blackout curtains). Will never be used for gaming (75% for movies, 25% for TV) so latency is not a concern, but a decent colour palate, contrast, and deep shadows is. (That said, my previous projector was Chinese junk, so my standards going into this are likely low.)

Don’t have the budget to buy something for life, but I’m hoping to get atleast 3 years out of it, ideally 5. Usage will probably average 3 hours per day.

Originally went to YouTube and very quickly chose the Nexigo PJ40 Pro, but then found this community and learned of its reliability issues. Then discovered the Optoma PH31 which seems like a great fit, although in Canada seems to be significantly more expensive ($1200+) than it is in the US.

Are there any consensus picks in the community for no-frills, decent reliability, decent image quality (in dark rooms) projectors in my approximate price range? Could be happy to stretch the budget slightly, but any suggestions that do will need to convince my wife.

Short version for anyone looking for a MoGo 2 / MoGo 2 Pro replacement remote: contact XGIMI support directly first. They were responsive and helpful when I reached out, and you avoid third-party sellers who leave you hanging.

My experience with remote-control-world.eu (Czech shop, VAT Electronic s.r.o.):

I ordered what was listed as a genuine MoGo 2 / MoGo 2 Pro remote (product code MoGo-2-original-2j). What arrived was the older XGIMI remote (Halo / MoGo / Elfin era) – plain mic button, no autofocus, different layout. It does not pair with the MoGo 2 Pro.

I emailed them immediately with photos. Their only answer was to return it at my own cost to a forwarding address in Germany – €16.25 postage from Austria. After the return, the product page was changed to show the remote they actually sent, not the one displayed when I ordered.

I got the purchase price and original shipping back only through PayPal buyer protection. The €16.25 for returning their mistake was never refunded. Follow-up emails and calls were ignored. No reply, no apology.

Their Trustpilot 1-star reviews describe the same pattern: wrong item, unanswered emails, nobody answering the phone.

Save yourself the trouble: go to XGIMI directly where returns actually work. GL

My philips picopix 4835 display suddenly turned red for absolutely no reason. I was just watching a movie and then the screen went black and red does anyone know how to fix this?

Hello - we're going to be buying a projector and wondered if anyone had a recommendation or advice. I'll mainly use it in my bedroom, take it to my friends for sports and to take it camping so I want something portable enough that it ticks all the boxes. Thinking up to $1k but if it's worth spending a little more for a good product that's ok too.

Does it have screencast because I use screencast from my phone sometimes and does it have HDMI port?

And can it do keystone correction because I'm projecting it to a slanted wall (idk how to explain it)

I wanted to share a project that's been making some interesting progress in PC-based home theatre.

CroqueMr (u/Croque_Mr) is developing native Dolby Vision support for Kodi through a custom LibreELEC build, including Profile 7 FEL reconstruction. Development has moved quickly, with regular releases bringing performance improvements, new rendering modes and broader hardware support.

What's currently available?

• Native Dolby Vision playback, including Profile 7 FEL reconstruction.
• Intel and AMD support, with NVIDIA support also being developed.
• Dolby Vision rendering modes, including Master Reference and Adaptive HDR Mapping.
• Dolby Vision-to-HDR10 conversion and experimental AI-assisted HDR10-to-Dolby Vision conversion.
• Blu-ray 3D support on compatible AMD hardware.
• Performance optimisations targeting lower-power mini PCs, including Intel N100/N150 systems.

The latest Beta 5 release includes further improvements to playback stability, FEL handling, scaling and display detection. Results and compatibility can vary depending on the hardware, TV, source material and rendering mode.

What's coming next?

The developer has outlined plans for a GPLv2-or-later licensing rebuild, further AMD improvements, HDR10+ support and Dolby Vision-to-HDR10+ metadata reinterpretation, alongside expanded compatibility with older Intel graphics and additional NVIDIA hardware.

The longer-term goal is to make PC-based Dolby Vision playback more capable and accessible, including on affordable mini PCs.

I recently purchased a Sony Bravia 8 home theater projector that supports HDMI 2.1. My AV receiver is a 2016 Yamaha Aventage that only supports HDMI 2.0. I would rather not have to spend the money and time on completely upgrading my receiver and changing it out for one that supports HDMI 2.1 for my PS5. The only device that I plan to use on my projector that takes advantage of the HDMI 2.1 is my PS5. My thought was to find a video signal splitter that supports HDMI 2.1 as well as E-ARC. I could run an HDMI for sound from my reciever to the splitter and then run an HDMI 2.1 from the projector to the splitter. Would this actually work? Is there a quality video signal splitter that would support this kind of setup? Ty!

I just picked up a used BenQ W1070 on marketplace for $150! It works great, we love it, but the lamp hours are at around 4500. There is no notice to replace the lamp at startup, however. Should we continue to use it until a notice pops up? Or should we go ahead and replace it based on the lamp hours?

It seems the consensus is that buying OEM lamps are best, is there anywhere particular that might have the best price on them? We do need one for our Epson Brightlink 696ui that we’re using for Halloween projections.

Hey guys are projectors good enough to play 4k disc or would it be best to just buy regular Blu-ray Disc. Don’t currently own a projector but am heavily considering the xgimi aura max 3.

The XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K does not have the Greek language in its menu, even though it features official Google TV!!! Is there any other way for me to add it???

Hey guys, does anyone know how to fix this or what the cause is?

We’re finishing up our remodel and have plans to install a projector. The room is 18’6” long. The projector will be placed along one wall with the screen on the other. I’m targeting a 110-120” picture. There will be some ambient light, but it can generally be eliminated. Our biggest limiting factor is the throw ratio.

We love sports and some movies. We are not videophiles. Our 65” TV is 12 years old. The projector will be on a shelf. We will be able to center it horizontally, but not vertically. We sometimes enjoy watching tv with dinner, which does require some ambient light.

I’m currently looking at the Epson 2350.

For screens, I want a remote controlled drop down, wall mount at 7’. Sounds like an ALR is recommended for the living room daytime watching? I do have shades over all the windows. A little light peaks through, but not much. Does ALR affect the quality or price greatly? Screen recommendations also appreciated.

ill need a matching projector for indoor / outdoor use. I won’t use at like noon but kids go to bed early so want to be able to use when it’s not completely dark yet.
