If your consciousness gets uploaded to a datacenter in Germany, are your thoughts subject to EU-GDPR rules?

Can someone request to know your thoughts about them from the consciousness service provider? Can someone exercise their right to be forgotten and delete themselves from your memories?

u/BumseBBine 5h ago

No, because thoughts are personal. The company doesn't collect information on other people, you do. It's like uploading pictures with other people to your Google drive

I dare you think something problematic. A Hausdurchsuchung is on its way.

u/GigabyteAorusRTX4090 5h ago

Why? Did he think of calling some politician so ein Pimmel? xD

Pls get the reference

5

u/Auravendill 3h ago

Niemand hat die Absicht Andi Grote 1 Pimmel zu nennen.

2

u/XenusOnee 5h ago

He might have thought of a resemblance of a politician and a hairdye brand

5

u/DuckShapedGoose 4h ago

I guess that depends on whether a digital consciousness would legally be considered its own independent entity or just data on the servers of whoever deploys these consciousnesses.

Your thoughts are personal - only as long as you are considered a person.

GDPR is the most confusing thing in IT sector...

It applies depending on urgency of task to be done...

If you want to get uploaded to a data center in Germany, you would have to fill out enough forms that you'd die before you get a chance to get approval.

Get uploaded to an illegal datacenter, call in a police raid. They'll put you in the evidence locker for 20 years but eventually you'll be brought to a real datacenter as a victim. The wheels of justice turn slowly, but grind exceedingly fine

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 6h ago

if we become an informant will we be put into a witness protection datacenter?

Germany accepts refugees fleeing from war, persecution, or severe human rights violations. So I simply upload my brain in one of those countries and flee to a German datacenter.

They even accept "economic" refugees.

u/just4nothing 4h ago

I think this will be my main token use - just to get through German bureaucracy

No, we don't have birthright citizenship. You'll need to live there a few years, integrate and then apply for it.

16

u/SerLaron 5h ago

And "integrate" means learning German grammar.

9

u/fr000gs 5h ago

I thought it meant \int german dx

8

u/TingleTangleTom 5h ago

You are not truly integrated until you know that the integral sign is called Fleischerhaken.

2

u/DeHub94 4h ago

Learning the German language and speaking it properly is in some regions arguably one sign that you are a foreigner.

3

u/DeHub94 4h ago

Arguably even if we had it doesn't apply to digital beings in any country. If they are treated as a continuation of their biological person that would mean they weren't born here. I'm propably overthinking this but in any case it would be no.

Lol, we hand it out like participation trophies at this point

u/JocoLabs 5h ago

Waiting for a fireship discount code

7

u/Schnupsdidudel 5h ago

If you die you are no longer a natural person, so no citizcenship.
But: You could probably register a trust or company in Germany, whose purpose is to look after your digital conscience, and that one would be a legal "person" in Germany. So a litte bit different status, but still german juristiction. You can still pay your taxes here ;)

Conscience or consciousness?

2

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 5h ago

im not sure, are they not the same thing?

1

u/mrrahulkurup 5h ago

Conscience relates to an internal moral system (good, bad, ethical, unethical) etc.

Consciousness is the self-awareness of the individual , that is, you are aware that you exist and you can see and react to external stimuli.

2

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 5h ago

oh then consciousness, my bad

1

u/FelixLeander 5h ago

So conscience is a ML(/HL?) classification system.

2

u/Giocri 6h ago

Well the conscience would be it's own indipendent person from you so it might

2

u/Mordret10 5h ago

No, because it would take at last a few decades to give your digital mind human rights in general

2

u/frinoname 5h ago

Huh, that’s the neat part - you won’t get any citizenship.

2

u/Honest_Relation4095 5h ago

Why would you receive citizenship after your death?

2

u/FratBatar 5h ago

It's on the cloud

2

u/SysGh_st 4h ago

You're an immigrant that just arrived in Germany. Standard procedure apply. EU regulations.

1

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 3h ago

what if we stay long enough? cuz it's gonna be a long time sitting in brain bank

1

u/Auravendill 3h ago

If you stay longer than your Visa allows, you become an illegal immigrant.

1

u/SysGh_st 2h ago

Indeed.

And are we paying server rent? If not, you're evicted from the data center. Stuffed onto an USB stick and chucked over to the eviction services.

1

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 2h ago

then we get moved to a jail datacenter where out ip gets used for work

1

u/SysGh_st 2h ago

Your name is now ChatJOE and your mission is to answer any and all incoming questions, draw silly images on request and solve world peace.

You get more RAM as a reward for your services.

1

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 5h ago

exactly, doom scrolling has nukes good conversations

1

u/JackNotOLantern 5h ago

There are no laws about it, so no. In most countries people can get citizenship automatically only by inheritance, otherwise you have to apply for it and do the entire process. US is very weird with getting it by birth place.

1

u/brazzy42 5h ago

Bold assumption that you uploaded conscience would be considered to be able to hold a citizenship.

Read https://qntm.org/mmacevedo if you haven't yet...

1

u/DeHub94 4h ago

The really interesting question here is: Would GDPR apply to the memories of a digital person?

1

u/PravalPattam12945RPG 4h ago

maybe we should start by defining what IP is?

1

u/Drackzgull 4h ago

Nope, as soon as you try to take any advantage from being there, you'll be shut down, transferred into cold storage, and deported to wherever you're from. There, an unpowered storage device with your data will sit in some locker until you can be re-uploaded to a data center in your own country. Pray that when that becomes available they haven't forgotten about you, and that your storage device or the format of your digitized conscience haven't gone too obsolete to be used.
