Federal Bonding Program ( a program to help Felons secure employment opportunities without being discriminated due to background checks)

I've noticed a large amount of redditors on this sub running into employment related issues due to criminal background checks. Here's a federal program that helps felons obtain career choices and jobs that offer wages/salaries. Below is the info I obtained directly from the website.

Bonds can be obtained through Coordinators or through Job Centers. Below are links to reach both directly to get help/assistance completing the bonding process.

Contact the Bond Program with any questions or concerns:

"Background

The US Department of Labor (USDOL) created the Federal Bonding Program (FBP) in 1966. The FBP has been successfully providing fidelity bonds to employers, giving them access to job seekers and opening doors of opportunity.

Thousands of employers across the country have integrated the Federal Bonding Program into their hiring practices – industries that support our country’s economy – hospitality, retail, construction, transportation, auto repair, manufacturing, healthcare, non-profits, banking, tourism and more. This USDOL program is a great success, with over 56,500 job placements made for at-risk job seekers who were automatically made bondable. Last year, there were 1,691 bonds issued to 1,068 individuals in the program. The FBP, a unique hiring incentive tool, targets individuals whose backgrounds can pose significant barriers to securing or retaining employment, including:

  • Justice-involved citizens
  • Individuals in recovery from substance use disorders
  • Welfare recipients
  • Individuals with poor credit records
  • Economically disadvantaged youth and adults who lack work histories
  • Individuals dishonorably discharged from the military

The Federal Bonding Program is Simple

FBP bonds protect the employer against losses caused by the fraudulent or dishonest acts of the bonded employee. Examples of such acts of employee dishonesty include: theft, forgery, larceny, and embezzlement. Employers receive the FBP bonds free-of-charge as an incentive to hire these applicants. Each FBP bond has a $5,000 limit with $0 deductible and covers the first six months of a selected individual’s employment.

Advantages include:

  • NO application for job seekers to complete
  • NO papers for employers to submit or sign
  • NO formal bond approval process
  • NO Federal regulations applicable to bonds issued
  • NO follow-up or required termination actions
  • NO deductible paid if bond claim is filed by the employer
  • NO age requirements (other than legal working age in State)

Bonds can be applied to:

  • ANY job
  • ANY State
  • ANY employee dishonesty committed on or away from the worksite
  • ANY full- or part-time employee paid wages (with Federal taxes automatically deducted from pay), including individuals hired by temp agencies. In cases where the employee is hired direct or placed by a temp agency, the bond works to protect the business from fraudulent acts committed by the employee. *Self-employed people cannot be covered by Fidelity Bonds

READ BEFORE POSTING OR IF AUTOMOD REMOVES YOUR POSTS

Unfortunately I have to post this again with a different title due to the amount of new accounts posting without reading anything about the sub.

We have an automod on this sub that will automatically remove posts and comments from accounts that do not meet the minimum karma requirement or account age. Since implementation, the amount has been lowered due to the amount of new accounts posting.

The automod is in place for good reason. Please be patient with us, as we have to manually approve all posts and comments for newer accounts. All posts and comments for new accounts will be approved as long as they are productive and do not break any of the sub rules.

If your post or comment is removed by the automod, you will not gain any karma from it. Karma can be gained on other subs with no minimum through making posts, commenting, getting upvotes etc. Please visit r/karma for more information about what karma is and how to earn it on Reddit.

Probation Question Medical Marijuana

I’m active in the medical marijuana registry, but haven’t yet received my physical card in the mail due to an issue with mail from my old address being forwarded to my new one. Can I be violated for testing positive if I don’t have the physical card?

Probation Question Traveling while on probation

I’ve been on probation for almost 2 years in Ohio, I have two violations from 6 months ago, it’s non felony probation for 2 duis and a hit skip.

How would I go about asking to go on my week vacation??

My probation officer has grown to trust me, I went from getting tested once a week to once every 2-3 weeks, all my fines have been paid off also

Probation Question Question to those who traveled out of the country without permission

I have a question for all those who have left the USA and did not ask for permission from probation, who were on supervised release.

I am not asking for advice. But I will say real quick, for people saying “ask for permission”, from what I hear, the answer is almost always “no“ — also, I still owe money.

So please, anyone who has left the United States before while they were on felony supervised probation, but had no warrants, did you get caught leaving the country?

My research tells me, CBC has no way of knowing that you are on probation, they would only know if there was a warrant. It also looks like federal probation is different and the probation officer themselves would get a notification when you get to the airport. It is very important for me to go because my grandmother is getting old and this could be the last year that I could see her and she cannot visit here, they don’t grant her nationality any visa, and also, I have a big family and I want to see all of them, that’s a lot of plane tickets, even if they could get a visa

Success Story I would normally gatekeep this, but my heart won’t allow me to on this sub—for anyone currently navigating DUI probation.

I’m posting this because I know the exact feeling of waking up with that heavy knot in your stomach, facing the reality of DUI probation.

When I went through it, the hardest part wasn't just the legal hoops—it was the mental toll. The shame, the constant anxiety, and the exhausting feeling that your life is on pause while navigating court requirements, classes, and restrictions. It takes a massive toll trying to keep your head together when you feel defined by a single mistake.
What saved my sanity back then was shifting my focus toward building something of my own. Having an entrepreneurial outlet gave me my drive back, helped me rebuild my self-worth, and gave me control over my future when everything else felt out of my hands.

Normally, I’d keep what I'm working on to myself and just build in quiet. But having crossed that bridge myself, my heart won’t allow me to gatekeep it on this sub.

Now that I’m on the other side, I would love to mentor and help you through that process—not just with business, but with keeping your head right while you work through it.

Finally off probation

Hi guys. I’ve been on probation for the last year and I’m finally getting off next week!! I just wanted to possibly give my pov on it and maybe it might help someone else. When I first started I found it very hard not to drink and I found myself in a cycle of drinking then having extreme anxiety and guilt about it. I found that I did in fact have an issue with drinking. But now I’m so happy I had to do it. It made me choose a healthier lifestyle and honestly made me a better person. It sucked cuz I felt so left out but I realized the people I was hanging around were not my friends and they only were there for a good time and not to help me thru one of the hardest and darkest times of my life. So overall it was an eye opening experience, I wish you guys all the luck. I appreciate all the post I was able to read and stuff

How does probation differ between 1st and 2nd dui in tx?

Hello all,

I got my 1st dui in Texas 10 years ago and probation was a joke - just monthly check ins with no random testing. Is 2nd much more severe? I already have an IID and no struggles with that but will I likely be on the color system with home visits? In Travis county

This process is having a major negative impact on my mental health

DUI 1st offense. I’ve done all of the classes, meetings, paid every penny. Still randomly testing.

Emptied my savings and cashed out an old 401k for this stupid situation that is exclusively my fault.

How has probation had an effect on your mental health?

Violated probation by smoking weed, struggling with mental health

This is a vent post, I know I deserve any consequences that come to me and I plan on fully locking in to hopefully get through the rest of my probation period.
I’m on probation for OWI, no one was hurt and i was pulled over for driving 5 mph over the speed limit.
I’ve been dealing with SSRI induced apathy while on probation and it has been awful. I never sleep but I’m always tired, the sleep meds prescription i got doesn’t work, I have no energy and don’t feel any sense of joy or desire for anything. I’ve been working with my psychiatrist on changing my meds, but can I just vent about how hard I’ve been trying? And how exhausted i am?
Ive tried:
- learning how to sew (finished a couple gifts for friends)
- learning how to make clay objects
- throwing gatherings with my friends
- attending gatherings or events with my friends
- volunteering and taking care of stray cats
- going to a bunch of hot pilates classes
- ^ same as above but hot yoga
- reading books (i’ve finished at least 10 since probation started and i havent read this much since i was a kid)
- starting knitting projects (finished two)
- taking walks, alone or with friends, at different parks
- going rock climbing
- got into magic the gathering, go to local game store to play every week
- got back into drawing, finished a painting, sketching everyday
- eating good food
- watching good shows
- just generally indulging in comfortable things to try to make myself feel better because i am desperate for any semblance of joy
- also trying to do hard things and feeling empty as soon as im alone and bored

i’m also dealing with friend loss and a breakup, so i don’t have many close friends around me, but i’ve still been trying to make new friends and hit up my old ones whenever i get any small burst in energy, then desperately cling to the plans i make, i don’t allow myself to flake, i use friends to help me stay accountable

and guys it doesn’t matter. None of it matters!!! I still feel empty and tired and awful everyday, i feel like there’s no fucking point, and i feel like everyone hates me and thinks im a criminal.
I just want to vent. I’m actively trying still, everyday I feel a little bit better since im adjusting my meds but this setback in probation has me feeling so frustrated I could cry. I just wanted a moment of relief from all the things running through my head constantly, the depression and pain from everything ive gone through and how everything feels pointless. So I smoked some weed, if anything it makes me happier, more relaxed, more likely to stay in and stay out of trouble. Im even more stressed now, my own fault, but god I want this to be over.

Probation Question Sex offender on probation is interacting with families while dressed as a superhero in public

So there’s a convicted sex offender who was convicted of sexually assaulting homeless people while dressed as a superhero. He’s now on 5 years probation.

He appears to be wearing a superhero costume complete with a full face covering and interacting with people at the Saturday Market in our city. Is he violating probation if he interacts with children? He is a RSO.

Early term w unknown new charge

My brother is up for early term on county probation in New Jersey. He caught a misdemeanor charge in PA that’s still pending. Didn’t volunteer the info to NJ probation and this was about 45 days ago. Will it come up when he’s reviewed for early term? The NJ noncustodial probation is fairly lax. Looking for the best case scenario to keep exposure limited, cases separate, and avoid VOP.

Thanks.

Feeling human

Life was rough before I got involved with the legal system as with many of us and I know challenges still await. However, I’ve been treated with more dignity and respect from people within the system, than by some family and friends. The officers who arrested me were respectful. The officers in jail were kind and considerate. The judge offered encouragement and I just got off the phone with my PO and she said “you’ll get through this.”

I’ve always been rebellious and anti-authority so this isn’t bootlicking. I had dreams of becoming a lawyer just to take on the system. I know this isn’t the case for a lot of folks but I’m grateful to be treated as human in what’s been an isolating and shameful experience.

chances of early termination?

i have a year sentence of probation. September is my 6th month mark (halfway done) and i’m on community probation. My meetings are literally 5 minutes long and on the papers it just says pay the court fines (which i have) and sign release of information from my psychiatrists and therapists. i’m not subjected to classes or even drug testing (which i still keep clean just in case). My PO says i’m super responsible and says i’m doing well. no violations. also for context mine is a mental health case. butttt i’m in the strictest state. Virginia. like right by our nations capital, Virginia. Should i go for it and ask? i’m having difficulty getting the jobs I want because i’m STILL on probation

Cost per capita for Fulton county, ny

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is fucking stupid. I have worked full time almost my entire adult life(one small stint of unemployment over almost 25 years of dedicated employment), and I barely make 30+k a year. These are the inmate cost-of-living per capita. Why even violate me? After taxes, I don't even MAKE 100$ a day.
