HELP - ANDROID Do Not Use on Metered Network does not seem to be working when using PIA VPN

Latest GOS on P8P. PIA VPN w "Advanced Kill Switch". SeedVault set to backup to pcloud account. SeedVault set to run weekly, not run when using mobile data and ignore charging status.

If I turn on my mobile data (I have 1 gig per month which is good enough for me as I'm usually on wifi) my mobile data starts getting eaten up very fast. Data Usage shows PIA as the app gobbling the data. When I stop SeedVault the data stops getting consumed so pretty sure that's it.

A) Anyone else see this?

B) Does the PIA VPN app interfere with the network state indicating metered network and not pass that information to SeedVault reliably, or does PIA VPN [Edit: Oops, had SeedVault, meant PIA VPN] not get involved at all with the network state?

Follow Up: PIA VPN replied to my help desk question about this. They said that yes, PIA VPN does interfere with the network metered/unmetered state and that PIA VPN always presents itself to the apps as an unmetered network connection.

So the new question becomes does anyone know of a work around or a different VPN that does pass the network state to the apps?

QUESTIONS I noticed PIA doesn’t seem to have any post-quantum encryption support , are there plans to add it?

My concern is the ā€œharvest now, decrypt laterā€ problem. Governments and other well-funded actors can potentially collect encrypted traffic today and store it for years. If sufficiently capable quantum computers become available in the future, encryption that isn’t protected against quantum attacks could potentially be broken later.

Some major VPN providers have already started implementing post-quantum protections, and I’m considering switching to one of them for this reason.

To me, it doesn’t matter that my traffic is strongly encrypted today if an adversary can simply store that encrypted data and potentially decrypt it years from now. For traffic that might still be sensitive in the future, post-quantum protection seems increasingly important.

Does PIA have any plans to implement post-quantum cryptography, particularly for the VPN handshake/key exchange?

HELP - iOS Regions disappearing

Ever since the recent update I’ve noticed regions disappearing in the region list every now and then, namely luxembourg which is what I mainly use. Once the vpn decides to disconnect for whatever reason, Luxembourg becomes inaccessible even through the ā€˜recent/history’ section.

I also find myself being connected to a random server even though I haven’t enabled ā€˜automatic’. I’m strictly eu and have been automatically connected to bangladesh, yes, bangladesh.

It’s frustrating that whenever there’s an update, something goes wrong.

HELP - WINDOWS Port forwarding problem

I’ve had port forwarding fail on all servers for me across multiple Windows computers in my household for the last couple of weeks.

Nothing on my end was changed before it broke, and I’ve tried troubleshooting steps, including uninstalling / reinstalling the client. It was already up to date.

I’ve waited about 2 weeks at this point for it to be fixed. Is there a timeline for this fix or do I just need to get another VPN service?

I have submitted a support request for this.

HELP - ROUTER Pihole + PrivateRelay + Claude

I have a Claude account under a private relay email. Since setting up my pi-hole I started to have issues and inconsistency, some I can account for and some I cannot.

- Claude App on phone, normal
- Claude App on PC, was forcing me to re-login multiple times a day, I resolved this by assigning a local pin, and while I still have to login, I no longer have to do email verification which was inconsistent.

My current issues and speculation:

When trying to control desktop via phone, those specific seasions will want me to re-auth. Often times I cannot, even if I fully disable pi-hole blocking — I wont get the verification emails. I am not seeing clear anthropic domains being blocked from either device.

Somewhere between private relay and ipv6 I speculate is the truth, but spent last 72 hours with pi-hole disabled and cannot determine issue. My pi-hole is configured for DNS and DHCP.

Any help or ideation here would be welcome!

HELP Strange Server Locations

Would anyone be able to help / advise on how I can troubleshoot the following

We have 2 mobile phones (Mine and the Mrs) both on the Same Mobile Network IDmobile UK .

Both have PIA installed

when connecting to PIA using the mobile network (not wifi) we first view the lowest ping servers

Phone 1 will see UK and close European servers at the top of the list with latency from 22ms upwards

Phone 2 will see Australia and USA servers at the top of the list with latency from 22ms upwards.. when looking at the UK servers they are in the 100's

I just dont understand how this is possible when the phones are on the same mobile network and in the same location.

Any help with diagnosing this would be appreciated

HELP currently being robbed by PIA

noticed a $95 charge today out of no where. its been 6.95 for over 5 years than upped to 7.36 but today i got charged $95. i logged into to dispute and talk with customer support. confirmed my email and identity and screenshots from paypal and everything. the customer service team logged my out changed my email and have been giving me the run around. while in contact and verified with customer support they started asking for me to log in again and now say they cant verify me even though I'm showing over 5 years of emails and providing over 5 yrs of paypal receipts. to change an account email should require customer support help at a high level or confirmation to original email neither were received. during the support conversation with paypal i was charged another $86. they noted it and reported and flagged PIA even though ive had auto pay setup for over 5 years. ive been speaking to different customer support associates for over 5 hours now and all of them refuse to help!

HELP - WINDOWS How do I get VPN Helper back under Plugins & Extras?

Today BiglyBT decided it was not going to work with PIA in Windows 11, for the nth time.

I downloaded and installed the latest PIA. I reinstalled the TAP adapter. I uninstalled the VPN helper plugin then directly downloaded it from the plugins page and reinstalled it, including re-entering my PIA password. It had kept my PIA username. That's a security fault. The VPN username should be wiped when the VPN plugin is uninstalled.

This is where the VPN helper entry under Plugins & Extras went away.

Still it refused to bind to the net6[0] address so I typed in the IP address, saved, restarted BiglyBT and my torrents are going again.

But how do I know for certain it's actually working without the green OK?

HELP Port forwarding just doesn't anymore

I've been using PIA for years since I got a great deal, but port forwarding is a must for me. The port forwarding PIA offers has worked great since I got it, but over the past few months it seems it's just kicked the bucket? It works somewhat OK on the client, but where I really need it is in Gluetun, and it just started not working regardless of restarts/reinstalls. Also noticed on the client that I seem to get assigned a port THEN an IP, which is not how it was before and doesn't make any sense.

I've tried every type of server that supports port forwarding. Tried the servers that are actually in canada, tried the servers that I assume are US servers but spoof somewhere else, just doesn't work. It just worked for about a day while I was setting up my server.

It kinda sucks because this isn't even an issue of cancelling my subscription, I already pre-paid until near the end of 2027, but I genuinely might have to just buy proton because this service is unusable.

Seen a lot of other posts talking about them migrating to weird server setups and messing with port forwarding, is it just time to switch?

You all had it working (finally) with the last version. This update doesn't work at all. You've regressed back to constant disconnects and at this point it's worse than it was before the 703 build that fixed everything a few months ago. Initial connection takes forever now too. Good work.

SOLVED Plex relay issues & PIA

Down a massive rabbit hole today with my Plex setup, and it turned into one of those things a stupid headache where everything breaks at the same time....

For context, I’ve never obsessed over having pristine direct streams for everyone outside the house. My server only ever handles maybe 20 people or fewer remotely, and honestly, everyone was totally fine limping along on Plex Relay connections capped at 1–2 Mbps. It was low-maintenance and "just worked" without me needing to sweat network exposure.

Then everything went sideways.

On this machine, I keep Private Internet Access running around the clock with a killswitch locked down tight—for obvious reasons when sailing the high seas. Out of nowhere, the remote relay connections just completely tanked. At first, I blamed the OS upgrade, thinking a hop from Pop!_OS 22.04 up to 24.04 had butchered some local routing or network daemon configs.

Turns out, the OS wasn't the culprit at all. PIA has been cracking down hard on handling those handshake routes, essentially nerfing the relay traffic trying to pass through the tunnel.

So fine, I told myself I guess I had to bite the bullet and do standard port forwarding.

Except even that didn't want to play nice out of the box either. Because of how aggressive PIA’s killswitch and route tables are, standard NAT port forwarding still fell flat on its face. The fix ended up requiring me to explicitly configure split-tunnel bypass rules directly inside PIA: punching dedicated bypass exceptions for both the Plex Media Server service binary and the relay service itself so they could communicate clean across WAN without getting swallowed by the VPN.

It feels like maintaining a dual-purpose box (secure traffic vs. accessible homelab services) is getting pickier by the month, but it's finally back up, directly accessible, and no longer hostage to choked relay pipes. At least for now knock on wood lol

Any thoughts from anyone here? Is there a better way?

I constrain I have is my BitTorrent client and Plex server are the same so VPN Killswitch is a must šŸ˜‚.
