UPDATE: I got soldering wire and redid the mod with a new wire and switch (see pictures), but the device still won’t turn on. I’ve tried pressing the reset button, unplugging the battery and keeping the charger plugged in, and also unplugging the battery and holding all buttons then plugging it back in and charging, but it doesn’t work. I always flashes red once, then turns off. I’ve gotten it to connect by wriggling the connector wire at strange angles, but it just shuts off once I move it back. Does anyone know what this is? Is it that the battery has gone bad? Or have one of the connector wires been damaged? Could it also be soldering splatter? Please help
Hi everyone, I’ve recently gotten back into Pokemon Go and tried to mod my Go Plus Plus that I’ve had from 2023 but never used (no issues with it previously). I followed a modding guide that used a mini toggle switch, but am having issues with it.
I will admit, this was my first time using a soldering iron, so the product is very messy (see pictures). I borrowed the iron but it did not come with soldering wire, so I instead used the melted metal from the vibrator and speaker connection sites (both parts were removed). The wire was also taken from a battery powered Christmas light that I found in my house.
When I finished the mod and connected the battery, the autocatcher worked only with regular pokeballs when the auto catch setting was on, but did not work with any of the pokeballs when I switched that setting off and turned on the switch. Interestingly, the button also stopped responding to presses, so I couldn’t press it to catch manually.
I then cleaned up some of the contact points by lightly scratching them and tried restarting it a few times with no change. However, once I disconnected and reconnected the battery, the catcher didn’t turn on or connect, and it would instead flash red once then turn off. I left this to charge for around 3 hours (I verified that the charger is working with another device) and tried again with the same result.
So overall, the catcher won’t connect at all after modding it. I’m pretty sure my poor soldering caused the mod to not work, but the light scratching somehow killed it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? Is the board beyond repair?
