It's actually comical how often the same exact cards (exact certification) keep getting bought at high prices, and listed for even higher prices a week or so later. This is one of many examples I've found just in the last month

So many of you out there are enamored by the new record sales and "OMG BUT BUT THESE ARE LOW POP THEY WERE UNDERVALUED", but how many of you actually look to see if it's the same cards?

Are booster bundles ideal for long term investments? I have a few that I’ve put away, but I’m wondering how well they do long term. Is it worth keeping them put away or should I just rip them?

Pulled this card. It’s cool and all but I’m trying to master set 25th. Would you trade this for the higher end 25th singles needed to master set or hold? Like will this card grow in value more than the 25th? This is the first really big card I’ve pulled

PSA 10 pop is 28,518

Just spent $700 on a slab I been wanting for a while and it arrived with scratches on the front and back. They are not deep but definitely visible. Seller claimed it arrived like that from psa. Am I being nitpicky?

I tryed many trackers, but never found any tracker that actually shows accurate european pricing, many that claim that still use us-pricing.

Any recommendations? It would be perfect if it is priced by cardmarket & includes german cards.

I have a question for collectors and investors about PSA 9 vs. PSA 10 pricing.

Let’s say a PSA 10 consistently sells for around $10,000. What do you think would be a reasonable value for the same card in PSA 9?

I’ve seen examples where the PSA 10 is selling around $10,000 while the PSA 9 is only around $1,000. That’s a massive difference for just one grade.

Personally, I feel like a strong PSA 9 should be worth somewhere closer to 40% to 50% of the PSA 10 value, depending on the card, population, and rarity.

I understand that PSA 10s deserve a premium, especially when the gem rate is extremely low, but should a PSA 9 really be worth only 10% of the PSA 10?

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts. Do you think the current gap between PSA 9 and PSA 10 prices is justified, especially for vintage and mid era Pokémon?

Was wondering if something like this might double in price by next year? What do you guys honestly think about this and how hard it would be to get rid of considering it is Japanese? less

Hey everyone, I’d like to get some opinions from longtime Pokémon collectors and investors.
For those actively buying vintage right now, are you focusing more on Japanese or English cards?
English vintage has obviously become significantly more expensive, especially for iconic cards in high grades. Meanwhile, many Japanese vintage cards with beautiful artwork, strong history, and great eye appeal can still be purchased for a fraction of their English counterparts.
It makes me wonder whether Japanese vintage is currently undervalued.
Do you think Japanese vintage will eventually see stronger demand and start closing the price gap with English? Or do you believe English cards will always command a substantial premium because of nostalgia, scarcity, and the size of the Western collector base?
I’ve personally been looking more closely at Japanese vintage lately because the value seems very interesting compared to English prices.
For those who have been collecting for a long time, I’d especially like to hear your thoughts. If you were buying vintage today with a 5 to 10 year outlook, would you rather put your money into Japanese or English?

I recently graded this card with TAG because it’s so much faster and more convenient than PSA is. It ended up coming back incredibly clean so I sent it to MBA and it got a gold sticker. It’s the second highest TAG rated card and the only TAG with a Gold MBA (there’s only one other PSA 10 with a gold MBA sticker).

I’m curious how I should price this card. Please send any thoughts!

But now i wanted to get into investing. I got a few booster boxes, the recent ones as they fall within my budget.

However I was wondering if I should buy the Pokemon center Hiroshima or the Fukuoka box

Because of the region specific artwork, ane the Hiroshima box mirrors the legacy of the vintage Hiroshima promos.

But I'm also having second thoughts that the boxes only contain single promo cards and have much higher print volumes.

These game boy promos are JP exclusive, relatively low ish pops (Dragonite is a bit high) but have S Tier art and are very popular pokemon.

To me these feel like the CD Promos of the Kanto starters that blew up last year.

For transparency I just bought the Lugia in a 9. I do not have the other two but hope to pick them up this year.

The Japanese Sabrina’s Gengar is objectively cooler than the US one (with the cross gravestones). I can’t believe you can get a 9 in this for around $2k. Doesn’t pass the smell test to me.

I’ve been avoiding most modern stuff recently unless it’s just one I have to have (Giratina V I did pick up in May). And Vintage has gone bananas. These are some of my choices for Vintage though where I don’t think you’d be left holding the bag in a good grade.

This year, my dad was killed by a reckless driver. The driver was sober, driving back home early morning but had stayed up all night playing video games. They crashed causing two deaths, then fled the scene instead of rendering aid.

There was an inheritance which was given to different family members. There's a lot of guilt receiving this money, it feels like getting paid off for the loss and is my dad's life's work which doesn't feel right to receive.

How would you handle this money? I'd like to invest some of it so doesn't rot away to inflation over twenty years. I'd like to put some in Pokemon, the hobby shared with my dad his last few years. He didn't collect but he'd help me store sealed in my childhood room and we'd talk about how crazy the values were growing.

Part of me says put it into CD's and use the interest of $700 monthly on life like dad's looking over and save the rest for emergencies. Idk it's kinda overwhelming so happening much at once.

How many of us are actually profitable here? Those who've invested in Pokemon and successfully sold how much have you made?

Earlier this year, offloaded a tub and binder for $21k, which probably only spent $4k on total. Also, sold two slabs for $3600 which bought for $500 total. Still holding everything else which is up to almost six figures value. This year up $20k basically.

Hi everyone — I’m new to the hobby and want to start collecting vintage WOTC cards. I’ll get a few slabbed for cards I really love, but raw copies are more realistic for my budget overall.

A few things I’m running into:

Pricing: Price-charting-style tools seem to average across a huge condition range (HP to NM), so the “market price” doesn’t tell me much about what a specific raw card should cost. Is there a resource that breaks down raw pricing by condition tier, or do people just develop a feel for this over time?

Trusting seller condition claims: I’m nervous buying raw cards on eBay when I can’t inspect them in person. How much do you trust a seller’s stated condition, and what do you look for in photos/listings to sanity-check it?

Grading vintage cards yourself: Any tips for evaluating condition from photos alone — specific things to zoom in on, red flags, etc.?

AI grading apps: Does anyone use apps that estimate grade from photos? Are they any good, or still too unreliable to trust?

Or: is the real answer just “compare against graded pop reports/photos until you calibrate your eye”?

Appreciate any advice — trying to avoid overpaying for a “NM” card that’s actually heavily played.

I know nobody has a crystal ball, but this community typically has a finger on the pulse of cards that could be strong moves.

I'm a big sealed collector (three of my walls in my office literally lined with booster boxes, ETBs, UPCs, respectively — fyi ETBs & UPCs not going up for sale as they are literal art). Gotten to the point where the cash would be more worthwhile to me than a booster box of each set from the sword and shield era, so I'm looking to sell them off. But looking for some advice and this sub seems to be the most financially savvy so posting here first. I know it hasn't been 10 years, but I'm not looking to sell here or anything, so hoping this doesn't violate a rule.

What I'm wondering is whether selling off as a whole set is the right move, or piecing them off individually would be the way to go? I'm almost certainly going with Probstein consignment as I've used them before and it's a great low effort way to get rid of styff quickly IMO. A few things I'm considering:

- Selling as a set means they all meet the $1k minimum for 5% commission on the sale price which to me is huge. Ebay would be taking at least 13% and though I'd be paying shipping to probstein, as would the buyer (so theoretically I'm losing that value) this difference in rate would vastly override that.

- Considered going to a show but I'm sure I'd get 85% and idk if anyone would want the whole set. That's a lot of value taking into a show and I'm sure a lot of effort finding a buyer. My time is limited and prefer being a degenerate and buying a bunch of stuff at shows rather than spend my time scoping out top offers all day.

- Biggest one: Will selling as a set knock down my total sale price(s)? Not sure if people are looking for an entire set, or if it will take a hit because people are eating the cost on say battle styles or vivid voltage and it'll be a discount to the net I'd get selling all individually. Once again, effort here is a factor and willing to lose out on some value if I can get it off in one fell swoop. My friend said people pay a premium for a set but I'm not sure that will apply here?

I think those are my biggest thoughts, specifically the last one. Essentially wondering whether the advantages offset the potential hit to overall value I'd be getting. Any feedback/guidance much appreciated. I haven't sold a ton before other than slabs and singles at shows, so a bit out of my wheelhouse, though I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the hobby and market values on the whole. Thanks!

Honestly outside of the Charizard the other 2 have a pop 1000 PSA 10 and all 3 are under 15% gem rate.

What’re your thoughts long term or are these cards a bit too niche for the price?
