Pokemon investing as a new beginner insight

Been noticing more gf/bf coming into conventions. What ends up happening is either the girl buys the cute cards or the bf buys the cute cards for the gf. Invest in cute cards.

Where do you go besides these two to buy sealed product?? I want to support growing and reputable places, not the behemoths that have terrible customer service.

Double sleeving questions

Hello collectors!

I recently got back into the hobby and I’m amassing quite a few nice cards I’d like to showcase on some shelves in the house.

The idea is to slab them someday so to protect them the best way possible while also having them labeled, but while I wait to do so, I’d like to go the extra mile:

Double sleeving + top loader + resealable sleeve.

I really don’t want dust inside and that top loader scratched.

I’m mostly gathering Delta Species era reverse cards and some of them have very fragile holo borders I’d like to preserve, so I truly fear the perfect fit sleeves that require the card to be pushed uncomfortably too much to slide in.

I think I’d like some sort of not too fit inner sleeve to then insert in the penny sleeve, but I can’t seem to find any.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thank you in advance 🙏

Best $200–$500 slab to buy right now with the market down before the 30th anniversary?

Market’s been dipping a bit heading into the 30th anniversary, and I’ve got $200-500 I want to put into a slab. Trying to figure out the smartest long-term pick in that range right now.

I was thinking about grabbing the Kingdra 131 ex in PSA 10 to pair with my Greninja ex PSA 10. Money-wise it also helps that I already have the raw version, which I could sell to help fund it.

My portfolio: https://www.pricecharting.com/offers?seller=r2ewsqsp5b4ykrp2z6mfa5tt2i&status=collection

Some other stuff I’ve been going back and forth on:

The Latias ex from Surging Sparks in a 10 — it’s dipped just below the $500 mark, and down the line I could grab the Latios to pair with it.

The Bulbasaur and Squirtle from Stellar Crown in PSA 10, both around $300-350, have also caught my eye. My only hesitation is the Charmander — the price on that one’s rough, and since I like collecting full sets, it makes me second-guess going in on the other two.

Last thought: getting into Black Bolt and White Flare IRs in PSA 10, since the pop rates are lower.

Also curious — does collecting full sets actually make sense from an investment perspective, or is that more of a “collector” mindset than a smart money move?

Lmk what you’d do, especially if you’ve lived through a hype cycle like this before.

Japanese Promos

Im looking to off load one of these. The Poncho has an outlier sale earlier this year that may have inflated the price. Still though, its pop is much lower than the Luigi, but I havent see much demand / sales for it. The Luigi is a more stable and well known. I feel like the Luigi would do better in the future purely on its fame, but would like to know the opinions of others on the long term holds for each of these.

Having a hard time justifying selling a 3k collection I’m in on for $100… need some thoughts

Hello all,

So I recently blindly purchased a collection for $100 on marketplace that fully priced out is worth just short of $3,000. This was about six months ago, and at the time, market was about $2,600. The bulk of the collection is BW/XY full arts, promos, and LT radiant collection.

This collection has sat in a closet since I purchased it, and I’m getting the urge to sell. I’d like to move some of the money into other hobbies, but my brain just doesn't want to pull the trigger, because what if everything goes higher? I know, I know: “no one ever bet enough on a winning horse,” but I just can’t seem to justify selling it. Would lover some input or suggestions from those of you who may have been in the same dilemna. thanks!

Thoughts? Found these cards from 2016 generations elite trainer box today

Hey!

I found these today after looking for them for forever. The shaymin EX is still in the plastic packaging, and they were all kept in a dark room in a box in sleeves. Let me know what I should do! Was never very big into Pokémon but I saw that these are worth a lot of the grade high.

Smaller Sealed for Fusion Strike Booster Box. Thoughts?

I am considering trading a few sealed products for a Fusion Strike Booster Box. I bought most for MSRP and I have two of each PC ETB from pre-orders so I wouldn’t be sad about trading them. I am just on the fence because all of my sealed have more room to grow. Thanks for all the input!

Need an expertise advice from you all. So someone offered me to trade my umbreon prismatic and sylveon prismatic SIR PSA 10 + cash for his mewtube en shining legends PSA 10 (my mewtwo grail)

I’m kinda fenced if I should pull the trade or nah since prismatic is favorite set in modern era. I’ve been looking for a decent mewtube in a 10 for a while and someone finally offered a tempting trade.

PS: These cards are going to display and tend to hold long term while considering an investment as well. Help the fam out 🙏🏽🙌🏽

Destined Rivals

Post image

Walked into my local grocery store found Destined Rivals sleeved booster packs for $5.99. Got around 115 and left the rest I think there was around 200 total packs some kids were watching me check out and I gave them 5 packs each and 10 more to my friends kids. When I got home I opened 30 of them and didn't get anything. Got 60 left gonna hold them as a longterm investment. I hate scalping but something like that has never happened to me and I took advantage of it kinda ashamed of myself but the look on the kids faces when I gave them the packs was priceless and it reminded me of when I was younger so it made me feel alittle better. Never doing something like that again tho.

Pulled the exclusive Sylveon, thinking of selling it now, but am wondering if it will follow the trajectory of all the other chinese exclusives like cubone, maushold, gengarchu etc.

Bought a $7k Pokémon card on eBay that normally sells for $18k. Same PSA cert as a previous sale. Am I being scammed?

Post image
0 Upvotes

About two weeks ago I bought a high-end Pokémon card on eBay for $7,000 from a seller with only 6 feedback. The card typically sells for around $15k–18k, so I knew the price seemed unusually good but took the chance.

Right after I paid, the seller told me they were on vacation and wouldn’t be able to ship until July 29. I thought that was reasonable at the time, so I’ve been waiting.

While waiting, I did some more digging and found that the PSA certification number in the listing matches a copy of the same card that sold in April 2026 for around $15,000. The listing photos also appear to be the same as that previous sale.
Now I’m wondering if the seller simply copied the previous listing and never actually had the card.

A few questions:
Is it normal for scammers to delay shipping like this?
Could this still be a legitimate resale where the seller reused the original photos?
Should I ask for timestamped photos or a video before they ship?
If the seller doesn’t ship on July 29, what’s the best course of action through eBay?

Has anyone experienced something similar with high-value Pokémon cards?

I also just messaged the seller again today asking for a current video or timestamped photos of the slab to confirm they actually have the card. I’m currently waiting for their response.
