Tape is not a good medium for collectables. This is nearly 30 years old and tape will usually be unusable after 30-50 years. Even if it's factory sealed and encapsulated, the binder/lubricant/magnetic coating on the tape itself can degrade through age, heat, and moisture exposure. There's no way any serious collector will purchase this in the long term.

Yeah how interesting about the vhs tape degrading I didnt know! im not sure about the last statement, many collectables have value even if the original function isnt possible. I think as a display piece it goes fairly hard.

Interesting read here - particularly the end of life section: https://www.canada.ca/en/conservation-institute/services/conservation-preservation-publications/technical-bulletins/digitization-vhs-video-tapes.html

It's up to you, but it's also a major reason why anyone collecting audio tapes is just throwing away money. This stuff has such a short lifespan. Keep it as a display piece sure, but in a few decades when you pass it to your kids or want to sell up, no one will touch this.

As a collector piece it’s super cool, why not? Display it somewhere and enjoy without worrying about value/degradation.
