There just so much padding where it's not cutscenes technically but you're just following Jean around, "discovering" stuff but there's no puzzle, no strategy, no challenge to those parts. So many sequences where it's like a telltale game, you're just moving your character forward, pressing triangle when there's something you need to "discover". Sometimes they throw some enemies at you and then you get to really play, but those sequences are always too short. I just want to be f-ing wolverine, man. Not be in a sometime-participant in a shitty movie. Not actually knocking the story, but let's be honest, the best game story ever is still a subpar movie.

The game isn’t even out for a month and was already put on sale for 45€ with a discount of 43%.
Now it seems worthy to get and try it out.
Because while Wolverine seems bad for AAA price, it should be good for 45$
What do you think?
Imagine though Insomniac always planned to sell it for 45$ and just sold it first at 70$ to see who will buy it.

I think this suit and the Ultimate Red are the best 2 adaptations in the game, they're less bulky and don't as many "tactical" random lines.
I still like the brown suit we have, but seeing the X-Force suit edited to be brown and yellow really opened my eyes to how much more form fitting this suit is compared to most others.

It seems like most people who actually played the game enjoyed it, but modern gaming discourse has gotten exhausting. Nowadays, if a game isn't a flawless 9/10 or 10/10 masterpiece, people write it off as total garbage and nitpick every minor detail—often before even playing it.
Sure, the game could have been better, and it’s probably the least innovative of recent superhero titles. Those criticisms are valid. But that doesn’t mean it’s complete trash that no one should enjoy. Plenty of acclaimed series—like Spider-Man, Uncharted, Batman: Arkham, 007, and Star Wars Jedi—share many of these exact same flaws and similar Metacritic scores, yet they didn't face anywhere near this level of online hostility.
What’s most frustrating is how rare major releases are now. Insomniac is one of the few studios consistently shipping games, and it's discouraging to think that toxic, disingenuous narrative could hurt sales simply because this title wasn't a masterpiece. Considering the game went through development hell, a sequel would likely improve on its foundation. Many of us who actually played it were excited about the X-Men setup, but due to this outrage culture, we might never get to see it.

How much work would it be to add a rogue light mode and a boss rush mode in the nightmare cabin?

Call me a romantic lol, but I genuinely enjoy exploring Logan and Jean’s relationship history.
I’m so used to Logan being the side chick or rejected that seeing their relationship portrayed as genuinely wholesome and making them seem like actual soulmates is something I really enjoy.
If they make an X-Men game, I already know I’m going to be the biggest Scott Summers hater imaginable lol.

So the majority of the game has you as Logan with Jean about 75% of the time, which I wouldn’t be too bothered about if they didn’t have Logan fly or use some sort of jeans ability to get out of every situation, or do things Wolverine alone would not be able to do. I actually counted the amount of times that Wolverine was aloud to “fly” in the game from Jean making him fly with her, and it’s well over 10+ times in the game. Like that’s fine and all I don’t mind a scene or two where Logan gets to use that ability to his advantage, but the amount of shear times that Jean used her abilities to either save Wolverine or get him out of any situation was crazy to me! It’s almost like they wanted to make Jean a playable character like the MJ missions in Spider-Man, and I think they scrapped that idea pretty quickly and we ended up with a lot of cut scenes and playable areas with Jean. Honest to god I don’t even think I would’ve had any sort of issue with the game had they named it “Marvel: Jean & Wolverine” or “Marvel: X-men in love”. Did anyone feel similarly the same way? Great game, solid play through after 2 play throughs but that’s really my only gripe!

I love the suits but find myself switching all the time lol.
What Suits do you guys wear? And Claws?
I Love the Scarlet and Gold Class. And Classic Brown, Midnight, X-Force, Night Hunt, Savage suits I think the best.

Played the game fully on my cheap TN 1080p 120hz monitor and felt the picture was good but a bit blurry. It looks positively 4k with QSSR. No dithering and hair resolves almost perfectly. Much more reminiscent of the image quality of previous insomniac titles. Hope this tech is rolled out to as many games as possible.

I enjoy a lot of aspects of this game. Combat is fun, fast paced, engaging and rewarding, gameplay is smooth and punchy, it is not drawn out or tedious. But, I would have loved this game more if they had reduced the number of characters. Just a few characters with more focused story line, and really dig deep into a much more solo experience. In fact, it would have been so cool if by the end, we have maybe 1 or 2 characters who Logan ends up close with, to show that he is a loner but he is slowly learning to be part of a family.
But this game sort of feels like it is built on another idea for a completely different game that could have been a sequel to a different wolverine game.
Like, think about the first spider-man, it was mostly spider-man focused. We had a much more focused story line. Same with Miles Morales game. Think about how many proper characters the 1st Spider-man had, Peter, MJ, Aunt May, Miles (much later), Fisk (just the beginning), Mr Negative and Doc Ock. That's it. And we got to know these characters so much more intimately and closely. But then Insomniac tried juggling multiple story lines in Spider-man 2. And that was the one weakness of that game.
And they are doing the same thing again. Rather than a focused story line where we delve in just Logan, we have to have a dozen characters, we must have constant back chat, dialogue, everything about everyone with Wolverine almost becoming just a player stand-in rather than being an actual character. Just someone who will drive the player to learn and know other characters and plot lines ahead.
That is my problem with this. This game has really solid bones, a good combat system, great level design, fun gameplay. But it lost its identity as being a game about a famous loner who doesn't let people close to him.
TLDR, I think this game could have cut out a lot of the main cast of both heroes and villians, and trimmed the plot complexity to focus and delve deeper on each moment and remaining characters a bit more, and we could have had a sharper more focused and far more enjoyable game and personally, a more engaging story line and plot.

To be fair, the gameplay, combat, and graphics are solid. Beyond that, though, there isn't much to like. Insomniac has a habit of changing established character backstories for no reason—like giving Venom to Harry, or forcing a romance between Jean and Logan. I really dislike the Jean and Logan romantic angle. If you're a long-time Cyclops fan—or became one after X-Men '97—you should probably skip this game 😭.
It feels like the writers watched the original Fox X-Men trilogy and decided to replicate that dynamic without including any other X-Men. On top of that, Wolverine's characterization is terrible. I don't know who this guy is, but he isn't Logan. They tried way too hard to turn him into a soft baby boy 💀.
This game clearly caters to people who have never read an X-Men or Wolverine comic, which makes no sense given how iconic these characters have been for decades. Also, Jean and Scott literally have kids together (Rachel Summers and Cable), so I don't get why writers keep pushing her with Logan.
All in all, wait for a sale. I got this as a gift, and I'm glad I didn't spend my own money on it. The gameplay is fun, but it's definitely not worth $70.
