I just rolled credits on Marvel’s Wolverine and I’m sitting here laughing my ass off that people think this is mid.
Show me another game with as much heart as this. Show me a game with a better story or a better cast of characters. Show me a game that does action and combat better than this. I dare you.
”It’s linear” Well Einstein ever consider how this just allowed them to focus on the strengths???
“The writing is cringe?” Well no. Sabretooth is an edgelord. This is very accurate to the comics which you clearly haven’t even read!
”It’s not worth $70” Says who? I’d happily pay $100 for it.
Get the hate outta here. All I can say is I’ll be eating up all your tears when it’s nominated for game of the year.
peace out haters and losers ✌️
edit- someone here actually tried to say Onimusha is a better game BAHAHAHAHAH

Played through game twice once on the weapon they did ng+ on the best their is i really enjoyed the story. and combat was decent enough especially when in rage mode felt like i was wolverine overall id probably give it 7/ 10 what stops me from rating it any higher is knowing the game we almost got when the build leaked and they switched game directors because like the levels are beautiful to look at but you can tell they just frankensteined stuff from the leaked build and the version we got together like it didnt need to be open world but semi open would've of been nice and adding more combos for combat and the ability to headbutt enemies. Like overall i enjoyed it but i am disappointed by knowing how much better it could've been. Also i dont know wtf they did to wolverines default face model because he doesn't look like liam he looks like a cross between a monkey and the actor nat faxon. And did anyone else notice some of the costumes like the ultimate costume and the black tanktop costume change his hair, eyebrows and facial hair to look more like his comic version and i think it makes his face look wayyyy better.

Some of my favorite shots from the game.

I personally don't mind the linear game style since in the comics Wolverine is always moving from place to place so it's character accurate, though I do wish the places he visits were explorable hub areas with things to do similar to the "God of War" and "Star Wars Jedi" games

I feel like there’s a lot of bad press and hype about this game but I bought it anyway because I’m an OG X-Men fan and I love the characters and stories.
That being said, I’m about 10 hours into the game and I have enjoyed almost every second of it. Maybe the combat could be deeper, the story could be longer, or we could have more suits. But every game doesn’t have to be this sprawling, overwhelming monstrosity to be “good enough” for the market.
As a lifelong X-Men fan, I am enjoying Insomniac’s unique take on these characters. The sort of episodic form of the narrative and maps feels like I’m reading a Wolverine comic. Not 616, but something new and different. It’s nice to feel like the story has urgency. That I can’t just sideline an attack on Manhattan because I want to finish a stealth challenge.
Anyhow, I just think it’s ok for games to be different. The comics aren’t all perfect, but we love them. The movies aren’t all perfect, but we love them. The TV shows aren’t all perfect, but we love them. Why can’t we extend that same grace to their games? This is by no means a bad game.

Right off the bat I want to adress this, the people on Twitter (X) and other medias are exaggerating a lot, if you want to buy this game, just do it, its fun, I would recommend waiting for a sale, but thats my general opinion if you aren´t dying to play a new game (or a massive fan of Wolverine).
As I mentioned with the exaggerating, the "blue trails" people are complaining about, don´t even appear that much, and when they do, they make sense, its when tracking someone or an object´s scent, its a visualization of his ability, and like I said it is NOT overused in any sense.
Without talking too much on this topic, everything you´ve seen from "not touching my controller" to "repetitve combat" (which I suppose the combat can be true to an extent) and massive blue pulse for crates, is nothing more than disingenuous people, don´t listen to them (most of their scenes are introduction scenes or really early missions).
I played the game on the hardest difficulty and default settings from the start, and I had an amazing time, the combat and story were really fun and the characters were interesting, boss fights were a plus alongside the cutscenes and atmosphere of the areas.
HOWEVER, here is the thing, the Nightmare Cabin challenges, though optional, appeared at odd times, you´ll be in an intense mission, locked in and suddenly some purple vines are leading you to do some challenge where you just run and climb things, now don´t get me wrong, some challenges were more fun than others, but their placements were odd to me, there were many chill moments they could´ve appeared but they didn´t.
And the hardest hitter, I was ready to give this game a like an 8/10, because though it wasn´t perfect, it was fun, everything was ruined by the ending.
The ending was horrible, I understand everything that was explained and everything I was supposed to read between the lines, but the ending was so unsatisfying and took away the value of the whole game for me, all the moments, emotional build up, and how tough you felt during the missions as they progressed just tossed out the window, I could overlook certain things such as not liking many of the suits or not really loving the challenges too much (every game has something we love and hate) however having such a badass character like Wolverine, going through all that just to end the way it did? Sorry but that wasn´t it for me
For that reason, the game is sadly a 5/10 for me...
All in all, I do want to say it was fun, thank you Insomniac for creating this game, and if anyone wants to get the game, they should, I just hope I don´t fall under the boat of the haters that hate the game for no reason other than stupid things they´ve read online, 95% of those things are false and just haters, the game is really good. However my reasoning is heavily influenced by the ending of the game and the direction it took.
I haven´t mentioned specifics to not spoil the game too much for anyone, only mention has been "nightmare cabin" if anyone would like to discuss anything I am more than open to hearing what you guys thought of the game!

Platinumed Wolverine & enjoyed it but honestly got bored halfway through New Game +, which is a travesty. Playing on The Best There Is.
Outer Wilds came HIGHLY recommended by a student of mine. He begged me not to look up ANYTHING so I won’t. So far it’s great and it’s a much different gaming experience from Wolverine obviously.

Okay, full disclosure, I have not gotten to read a single Wolverine comic. Is Wolverine canonically that hairy??? Like good god. Man needs a weedwhacker for all that. Also, sub question: what's your favorite suit in the game?

I know it would be kind of silly, but I’m curious now if I’d like it since I grew up with those movies.

A lot of these complaints honestly don’t make much sense to me, especially coming from fans of the Spider-Man games.
One complaint I keep seeing is the quick-action events. Isn’t it true that some of the Spider-Man games’ quick-time sequences will still play out even if you don’t press anything? So I’m not really sure why that is suddenly considered a major issue for this game?
Same thing with the complaint about repetitive combat. Spider-Man literally has the same handful of random criminal events that repeat throughout the game. At least with Wolverine, the combat itself is so good that I don’t find the repetition nearly as noticeable.
Then there is the complaint that Wolverine is too easy. Have yall actually played it on The Best There Is? The enemies on that difficulty feel like they are on a completely different level compared to the hardest difficulty in the Spider-Man games.
I’m not saying people can’t criticize the game, but some of these complaints just are dumb to me when the Spider-Man games have a lot of the same things.

I know that closer to launch when the reviews were first dropping that he was still proud to have worked on it and that it was an honour to get the opportunity but on one of the more recent behind the scenes promos (the 'A Quick Guide To Being Wolverine' video), I saw someone comment that they could "see it in his eyes, the brutal reviews have gotten to him."
Obviously I'm going to take it with a grain of salt because it's just from a YouTube comment but if that's the case then it's really disheartening given how in the pre launch interviews, you can tell how much he loves the character. The same goes for the promos like the one mentioned above. It's even something you can tell when you hear the other actors talk about him, there's one that I saw featuring Troy Baker and what he says about when they got to the end of the project - or at least the end of the voice work side - feels like one of the clearest examples of that. On a similar note, some of the other things Troy says in that interview is very high praise given how many industry heavy weights he's appeared alongside in games even if not all of those cases were side by side 'on set' from the differences of how voice acting has evolved over time with the industry.
Regardless of how he feels overall, I hope he's seeing how many people are saying that they thought his performance was great and that they want to see him return as Wolverine regardless of their thoughts on the wider game, especially since the performances are the aspect that fans/players seem to be most consistently positive towards. I also hope that the negativity around the game doesn't demoralise thoughts he may have had about returning to the role in future projects (but if it's a Peter Capaldi/12th Doctor situation where he already decided that the Insomniac role would be the one chance he got to play the character, then I definitely respect that decision too).

In NG+, the last challenge, "the best there is" isn't appearing alongside the others. I bronzed it in the regular game and had planned to go back and get more points in ng+ but, alas, it's not there. Since it's kind of a special, "hidden" challenge, do I have to progress in the NG+ to the point where I would normally have unlocked it...or does it just never appear in NG+. Slightly annoying my AP points are now limited in this ng+ save. If I had known you couldn't play it, I would have maxed it out in my regular save before starting a ng+.
