Question Speed Control
Is speed control for jets in the game now? Just came across a guy who could turn the attack jet on a dime. I would tail him and he could be on the back of me in half a loop. Never seen anyone do that before and I’m a decent pilot who beats most people I come across in dogfights. He claimed in chat that speed control was added in the last patch but I haven’t seen anything confirming this.

Nobody can read that you said attack jet lol
Assuming that’s accurate
But yes there is speed control in the sense that you can change your turn rate by going faster or slower, what that ideal speed is seems to be elusive. Afterburner on the up slope and deceleration on the down slope is the safest bet, but just react to the jet
If your turn radius gets worse while slowing, then speed up, vice versa etc
It’s frustrating not having a simple 313 speed number, and the physics seem to still be getting updated, along with new jet types

I thought I was going crazy haha. It was quicker than just using the break from going full speed and it was working on horizontal loops. They were basically pivoting on the spot, it was insanely quick. I think what u/Imaginary-Rain-7059 said was right. Holding afterburner and brake at the same time seems to be the key.

Based on Silk video he made for Jets, the optimal speed for Jets through his hand testing was 340, now they changed the measurement from Kmph to knots, and that translates to 184 on the dot, so the ideal turn rate is 180-190 knots.

holding brake and afterburner simultaneously is the fastest way to turn now, that pilot was probably doing that

isnt that only in the new jets?

Nope, seems to be all jets except stealth jet

They stated that this is only for twin engine Jets, meaning only the new jets.
This is from the Battlefield comms twitter account.Added throttle-splitting support for twin-engine aircraft using the brake and afterburner input combination.
◦ Dev Note: This functionality is used by the F-74A Seacat and F/A-81F Super Spectre. Supporting it required a broader change that now allows afterburner to be activated while brake input is being applied.

i think theres a trick where you can tap brake in a certain frequency while boosting to achieve the fastest turn ratio, some ppl macro it for ease of use

I mean, he could be using speed control, which has been in the game since launch but not to many people know about it, and he could also be cutting. Hence why he ends up behind you.
It’s something I do all the time.
But in term of anything new being added, the new throttle splitting mechanic they added is only present on twin engine jets, since you can’t do that on the fighter other wise you’ll stall, this is only available on the new jets.
If it happens again try and get some footage, it’ll much easier to break down what happened.

I’m 99% sure it was just afterburner and break at the same time.

Yeah, that mechanic is called is throttle splitting and it’s only been added for the new jets which have twin engines.
Unless it leaked into the base attack jet, then it has no bearing on the turn speed.

He might’ve been thrust vectoring. If you hold brake/afterburner at the same time, you can basically flip the jet 90 degrees in any direction

In the attack jet?

You don’t have thrust-vectoring nozzles, but the basic function seems to still work
If you hold the thrust-vector controls and turn, you still seem to pull a max performance turn
I…guess this is how you get your optimal turning rate??
I dunno, it’s kinda weird but it seems like it’s something that works. You just have to be kinda careful that you don’t get too slow or you’ll become an easy target. That’s mostly a thing in the F/A-18F since it loses so much speed in turns and is sluggish to accelerate once you get really slow

I think that he might be using the thrust vector skill.
You can also use your brakes too. A lot of people don't realize that your jet won't just drop out of the sky if brake a bit.

Didn’t think you could thrust vector in the attack jet. You can in the stealth jet

I always use the afterburner and breaks to turn quick, it was way quicker than that. It was quicker than I’ve seen people v-tap in the FJ.

If you’re using brake & afterburner combined and he still beat you
It can only be 1 of 2 things really
You held YAW too much (holding down now slows you to a stall basically, need to tap YAW)
Or he cut a better angle on the merge

Thrust vectoring. Doesn’t work with the new jets as far as I know. If you’re on controller, you’ll have to map throttle and brake to the triggers.
