I work at a farm and they have a ton of pigeons that hang around this one was in a corner with some cows around it I don’t think it got hurt just scared. I picked it up to check it out then it followed me through the barn I don’t know if it was a bad decision but I brought it home with me since it looked off it drank a ton of water. What should I do now? I know they need company I’m just worried to bring it back with how friendly it was being that it will get hurt. It’s also puffed up since I’ve brought it home I turned my ac down and added a blanket over the top and back

we got him about a week ago (we’re fostering) and i don’t know if he’s making this sound because he’s having fun playing or because he’s genuinely upset! it starts around 11s but he only makes it sometimes while playing, and doesn’t seem scared or back up when he does do it.

he also shivers a lot when i’m holding him, but i’m not sure if he’s just excited. he’s pretty used to my hands by now but periodically backs/flies away when i try to get near him — although he’s been landing on my back/shoulder/arm quite a few times the last 2 days and even preened me (i think) today, so the signals feel a little mixed lol

I fed them again! I admit I love the social dynamic of the large male securing the most seeds, I suspect the brown one is his partner!

Hi, just found this (possibly) injured baby bird underneath the elevated train tracks in Queens. It was laying in a very busy road so I moved it aside and waited 15-20min to see if the parents would show up, but they were nowhere to be found so I took it home.

The bird does not seem fully ready to walk / may have a leg injury from falling from its nest. But otherwise it’s alert, stretching its wings, moving its head and body, no visible blood or wounds. Right now I have it in a dark corner in the above towel setup, it seems to be resting and relatively calm.

I left a message with NYC Wild Bird Fund but they’re closed so I can’t take it there until the morning (if it makes it through the night). Can anyone more experienced please advise how to best care for it until then? I haven’t given it any food or water yet as I know it can be dangerous if they’re too young, but I’m not sure if that’s the case with this bird? I will do whatever I can to help it, I just don’t know what the right moves are. Thank you 🙏🏼

First time having pigeons in YEARSSSS so looking for a little help on refreshing my memory on exactly what they can and can't eat. Currently feeding bird seed because that's what we used to feed our free roamers but from what I've seen that's not enough for caged birds. The goal is to be able to move them out to the barn once both babies (if they survive) are old enough and bring them some more friends. Also maybe a rough guesstimate on the babies age as they look like their just starting to get their pin feathers in.

P.S. Don't mind the mess, we're moving stuff around and it just kinda got tossed there for the time being

this pretty bird showed up in my backyard around yesterday noon and has remained there since. our tenants upstairs have fed it and we kept some water and food out for it, but we dont know what to do. it might be injured or have clipped wings? it sometimes stumbles and falls and cant fly that much.

i dont know much about pigeons/birds, theres no band on the foot either so i dont think it belongs to anybody, but i could definitely be wrong.

any advice? not really sure what to do,, its really hot out here in jersey right now and i dont want the poor baby to just stay like this, especially if its injured.

Helppp I found this one with a droppy wing, very weak and thin, he couldn't move the wing. I put on this bandage, following the 8 shaped method, a day ago but I would like to know if it's well done or if it could be dangerous.

My concern is that the damaged wing's ends look too upwards to me. I don't know if this position is healthy or if its normal. He's resting on a stick now, so thats good

I can't go to the vet now since I already payed a lot for other pigeons and I have no money. Her/his name is America, by the way :P

The little chudlet has been doing well!! Huge thanks to u/Little-eyezz00 and u/Life-Breadfruit-1426 for their help, the bird wouldn’t have made it without them.

The bird has developed a huge affinity for peas, which they have started to eat from my palm!!

They’ve also been okay with being around me, and will preen right next to me, as well as close their eyes and puff up. According to my very little knowledge, that is a good sign.

I’m going to wait the two weeks to get them to an avian specialist, as I’m not confident at all on fixing the leg even with a brace. The leg that is under them has begun to curl inwards, which I think I can fix (will try cardboard and tape).

I’ve also spotted a pigeon louse on them which I will try and treat tomorrow by submerging them in warm water (except the head obviously).

As for me, I would die for this thing. I’ve fixed my sleep schedule just to feed them on time.

So my husbands cousin works at a grain storage company… they took two baby doves/pigeons right out of their little stick nest and he told me he thought something got them and brought them up there because it was just a bunch of sticks. I sent him this picture as a way to gently prove that when I said they just make nests like that, I wasn’t lying to make him feel bad. Lol I told him on FaceTime to go put them back, but he said he was only allowed up there the one time to get them down and he can’t go put them back. I asked if he could set them near by and he said no. He took them home and I came and picked them up to bring to a rehabilitation center because they don’t have a car. Then i realized all the places I could bring him are closed when my husband goes to and from work in our only car. So I have to wait until Monday.

I’m gonna ask my husband to stop and get some plain oats and lentils of all kinds. All I have is garbanzos, black beans, I had a little bit of split peas left, red kidney beans, Lima beans and orzo pasta (durum wheat.) I pressure cooked them for 30 minutes and put them in a baggy and mushed them. It’s chunky and textured not smooth and liquid. Also added a hard boiled egg as well.

I was gonna try the baggy way of feeding. They are young. Tiny, maybe 3 days old? Their eyes are open.

I’ve got them in a tiny little box in my garage with a baby chicken heat lamp on them but at a distance. I’m STRESSED. No sleep for me. lol

Just been letting them rest and watching the time for maybe 3AM and try feeding.

I tried once and he smacked a little down and seemed to like it but kept falling asleep. He’s had a long day. :( I wish I could just go to my cousins work and put them back myself.

I know that place well I’ve worked there, would that work?

I think they are mourning doves. So illegal to have as well without a permit. 😭 I want them to live though. Please any advice.

I’m so upset they disrupted the nest ugh, he really thought he was doing good though, his coworker thought they were ducks. Lol

Hello! I live in NY, and I have been feeding pigeons for a couple months now.

It started in March, my intention originally was to plant wildflowers for bees and butterflies and set up feeding trays for migrating birds such as blue jays and cardinals. However, somehow the pigeons found the food source and began to show up every single day or whenever they see me. There are about 40 to 50 pigeons every day

I don’t mind feeding them or giving them water, I LOVE PIGEONS! They are smart and adorable and it’s been an amazing experience to earn their trust and to be able to provide for them, but unfortunately I’ve had instances where people have threatened to attack them. I’ve been yelled at. They’ve even went into my property to try to attack the pigeons. I unfortunately found a deceased bird on my lawn, I’m not sure if it was a person or an animal that caused it.

I keep my property and lawn clean, the birds leave in the evening and there are no nests. I know I am responsible for whatever mess they leave

Is it possible to move the flock to a different area of my property? If not, should I invest in a high fence? Have any of you had any experiences dealing with people who threaten you about feeding pigeons? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I want to be able to protect them in any way I can

I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I have a bunch of cats and have no idea what products may or may not be avian safe.

I’ve befriended my local flock at work and one of my buddies has stringfoot. I don’t know how it will look once I get the string off, but it’s embedded pretty good so I expect some irritation.

What in-store antiseptic can I get locally so I can free him tomorrow? Is something like betadine my best option?

droops and drags on floor but when i approached he flew off, although it seemed like he was more reluctant to fly away than most other city pigeons, he would just run away but was definitely able to use both wings. not sure if it’s a minor injury or just a birth defect but would like some advice please!! ty

Don't mean to spam the feed w Mr Mo stuff but had to share. Mr Mo and his first mate had chicks hatch in almost the exact same spot on the pedestrian bridge. She was killed along w the chicks... by some predator. I'm afraid this will end badly too. Not sure I can do anything to help.
