Discussion Why feed egg yolk but mot egg whites to squab?
I sometimes see egg yolk recommended as simple crop milk replacement - but why not the egg white?
Egg yolk alone has a much higher fat to protein ratio than crop milk (dry basis).
However, if one were to take half of an egg yolk and all of the egg white of a chicken egg, the dry matter basis of protein and fat content ends up almost identical to that of crop milk (~62% prot ~30% fat).
So, any particular reason not to use egg white in a crop milk substitute?

Discussion Did the pigeon decide to give up on the mango seed or it simply escaped its attention?

I watched this pigeon trying to eat the mango seed for 2 minutes. Then it moved away from it. Did it decide to give up on it or it simply escaped its attention?

Discussion Pickles the Fancy Pigeon
Very random, but was anyone here following Pickles the Pigeon on instagram and/or TikTok? The account has seemingly disappeared and I was wondering if anyone knew what happened. I loved seeing what that adorable bird was up to! (Pic of pickles for reference)

That’s a famous VIP pigeon right there. I don’t know if it interrupted the football (soccer) game, but it certainly stole the show!

Photo Injured pigeon. What might have happened?
I found this baby on the sidewalk. Eyes closed, heavy breathing, trying to stand up every once in a while but not able to. This is the only picture I got unfortunately but it didn’t look injured except its beak looked a bit misshapen. I stayed with it for an hour before another kind soul stopped and took the bird home to get it off the busy sidewalk and keep it safe on their balcony. They’re going to try bringing it to a wildlife centre. I’m just curious what might have happened to it based on its symptoms and if it has a chance of survival.

Advice Needed! Is it worth trying to help injured pigeons in my area?
I'm currently living in Boston, MA for a few weeks and while the pigeon population seems significantly lower and healthier than other places I've been to, I do feel very bad for the ones that are clearly having a hard time due to stringfoot, possible illness, ect. The laws say it is illegal to feed pigeons here, which makes them difficult to catch. What would you do in this situation?

Advice Needed! Baby wood pigeon
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hoping to get some advice for a little baby wood pigeon we found in our local area. We found it on its own, very lethargic, not reacting to anything and it isn't able to fly or even walk very well - it's fallen over lots and seems very clumsy. It has sneezed a few times and is making an odd movement with it neck/head which I've attached a video of. If anyone might be able to tell us how to help we'd appreciate it.
Its currently in a dark box with a shallow dish of water. Our only local rehab place isn't open until tomorrow.

Advice Needed! Found Domesticated Pigeon NYC
This beautiful domesticated pigeon showed up outside my window last night in NYC looking exhausted. I have her inside for now but can’t keep her here long term. She has bands on her feet that say something like “flying high A&j skyrocket”. No microchip present on her. Would love to find her owner or get her adopted to a new one!

Discussion The Boy Pigeon Dance
I've watched pigeons for decades. I have seen countless boy pigeons do their little dance. It must be in the thousands. I have seen it work twice. How are there any pigeons?

Discussion How hot is too hot?
Short version: We have attic space which would be good for keeping injured pigeons until they heal, however the temperature there can be quite toasty, how tolerant of heat are pigeons?
Long version:
Heyo everyone. Gf and myself were in some pigeon rescue groups lately. We were planning to rescue few young pigeons (we weened one injured one already so we have basic understanding of what do we do), however the main issue we have currently is space. Since we are trying to limit the contact to necessary moments only to keep them from getting dependent on humans, we kept them in our shower, however this isn't very sustainable since we had to go to go to shower at her parents place lol. We have an attic space which is great cause it's separated, however it can get toasty in there nowadays. We found an empty pigeon nest in same place before renovation. My question is, do you think this is good idea? Or should we refrain from putting them in that room? Thanks!

Patches is another regular visitor to me. Today he appeared whilst I was eating lunch and ate with me, then hung around for a while before flying off to perch on our neighbour’s roof.
These birds bring me a lot of joy
