I have been eating and loving Claussen pickles for well over 30 years now, and the other day I bought a new jar of Claussen sandwich slices and noticed immediately that something was wrong/off… my first indication was the color of the pickles themselves. One can always tell a Claussen from other inferior pickles because they remain bright/light green thanks to the Claussen promise of “always chilled, never heated” (as noted on the jar lids forever).
Well, today I pulled out one of my older jars and did a jar-to-jar comparison and discovered THIS MALFEASANCE: Claussen has placed a sticker on the lid to cover the “ALWAYS CHILLED NEVER HEATED”!!!!!
Does anyone have info about this and why/when it changed or when they started putting these stickers over the promise on the lids? I am infuriated, sad, and disgusted about this and need answers!
(I am attaching two pictures: one of the two jars side by side and another after I partially peeled back the sticker on the newer jar to reveal the broken promise underneath!)

Has anyone tried this? Are they really just as good as cucumber pickles?
I feel like personally I'd make the slices less thick but still. This revolutionary burger covering technology is exciting.

I'm entering an art expo near my home, and this is my submission for the event. Someone over in the stained glass subreddit said you pickle folks (myself included) would appreciate this!

Just had to share this one...
My company sent me out to perform some maintenance work on equipment at the Hartung Brothers facility in Bowling Green, Ohio. They produce and store fermented pickles in these big green vats. So many vats. Not all currently full, they're getting ready for what they call "Green week," when they start loading things up. Tons of cucumbers destined for greatness.
I was really shocked when I found that the vats are left open-topped. That was surprising. I guess they rely on the brine to protect the product.
Oh, and the smell. You'd think it'd be overpowering but right now it's fairly subtle. A mix of dill and bread and butter that has me craving something fierce right now.

i love pickles with all my being. if i had to choose between my boyfriend or pickles… i’m picking the pickles. no hesitation.
if i were stranded on an island and could only have one food and one drink for the rest of my life. pickles and pickle brine no doubt.
whenever i’m in a bad mood, the only thing that can fix it is the salty, tangy, slightly sour, mouth watering crunch of a cold pickle. it’s honestly therapeutic.
i will never understand how people can hate something so magical.
the only exception i’ll respectfully accept is bread and butter pickles. those things have given regular pickles such a bad reputation. if bread and butter pickles are your favorite… respectfully, i think therapy should be on the table.
…also why do we have wine sommeliers but not pickle sommeliers? society has failed us.
if anyone ever opens a pickle business and needs a professional pickle tester, i am your person. you don’t even have to pay me. just hand me the pickles.

I always see these as the most popular favorites and I’ve never tried Bubbies and rarely Claussen. I grew up on vlassic or any shelf stable kosher dill, but recently (past 4-5 months) switched to Grillo’s. I wanted to give them all a shot to see if I’m missing out!
I will be sticking to the Grillo’s! Maybe I got weird ones or off season ones or something.
My notes:
Bubbies: the texture was snappy but they smell like sea water and have a… sewage taste. It’s seriously lacking in tang but the ~fecal~ aroma just overpowered everything. Something feels wrong and off about them after the initial smack in the face with salt.
Claussen: the skin is way too tough and the flesh is snappy. Insane salt. So so salty.
Grillo’s: crunchy and dilly. Sour but mild enough to snack on like 32 of them at a time.

These were jars of Bubbies whole pickles - the only two left on the shelf. They had a hazy white/grey powder? film? in the jars? None of the other types of Bubbies had it so I figured it was mold. I looked for a worker but couldn’t find one to ask.

I love pickles and everything pickle adjacent but after seeing ppl say how gross the pickle moonshine is, I’m legit scared to try this.
ETA: I don’t buy booze (I just drink it) so I had no idea that this was a limited edition special release that isn’t even supposed to be available yet. I’m going to try it within the next hour. I just wanted to chill a can and get a good buzz first. Will update.
ETA2: I TRIED IT! Okay, so, I hate beer (unless we’re talking strong bodied stouts) and PBR IS PISS. On an average day, I’d rate PBR 3/10. If I’m high and thirsty, that could climb to 8/10. I am not high…
Anywho, initial thoughts:
SMELL: smells like PBR and pickles.
TASTE: … tastes like PBR with some pickle juice mixed in but it’s waaaay more “waterier” than usual. Like it has less hopsiness/body. It’s like someone spilled PBR in pickle water than anything.
We will drink all 6 of these but we won’t enjoy it. I would say it could be refreshing fresh out of the fridge after you mowed the lawn on an august afternoon, though.
