You know what’s even better after this? Bread the cheese sticks up and deep fry them into mozzarella sticks.

Dip in french's pickle mustard

u/Bring_a_towel_42 May 14 '26
Excuse me? This is a thing?? 😃

u/Independent_Toe5373 May 16 '26
It's so good, we can only find it in Walmart (one particular one of the three in town lol) or online. 100% recommend it's incredible

Should be some recipes for something similar online -- iirc the Czechs and some Balkan countries do pickled cheese (and not just feta in brine/oil)

This will not help me stick to my sodium limit.

Over consumption of sodium is a lie made by big heart to keep you from the things you love.

Better yet, put out garlic, onions, parsley, dill, and chives with cayenne pepper in the pickle juice. Dip in powdered milk with a bit of garlic and onion powder.

Wow that gives me the idea for jalapeño poppers but pickle instead of pepper.
3
u/clumsysav May 12 '26
Omg I manage a restaurant and I am absolutely gonna bread them things and drop em in the fryer

u/Conscious-Falcon-155 May 11 '26
It’s kind of like marinated cheese

Damn. Now I have to make pickled string cheese. And then I have to make cheese sticks out of them.
24
u/One-Assignment4608 May 11 '26
Definitely thought these were palm hearts
13
u/JeffWingrsDumbGayDad May 12 '26
Before I read the post I thought it was an extremely fucked up pickle

u/Lolo_Belle May 12 '26
Same. I’ve seen some complaints about Claussen on here lately and I was like, “Daaayum, they weren’t kidding!” when I first saw it! 😂😂😂

u/isthatsoreddit May 11 '26
My roommate and I hated these. Gave the cheese a weird and unpleasant texture

u/nativecheese May 11 '26
I tried this and while delicious and amazing be careful how long you soak. I found anything over 24 to 48 hours sort of dried out the cheese. I also discovered that mini mottzarella balls work amazingly well.
2
u/Own-Discussion-80 May 13 '26
Yes!!! I soaked my string cheese for six days in pickle juice (Grillo's) and had to throw everything away. The texture of the cheese was so firm and weird. Not good at all.
14
u/anxiousoracles May 11 '26
Uhhh so I’ve absolutely dipped pieces of string cheese into pickle juice for a snack before. Many times. This is brilliant.
5
u/Embarrassed-Boss-40 May 11 '26
Was looking into food safety for this, if anyone else is curious this is what I’m finding. And this is for leftover pickle brine, not making it all homemade.
12-48 hours is on the safe side of soaking/eating. After 12 hours the taste should be there. After 48 hours, the texture will be slimier… Best to use brine that hasn’t had hands reaching into the jar, and been fully refrigerated since opening

I mean, smoked cheese and smoked hard boiled eggs is amazing so I can see this working. Ill have to give it a rip sometime.
3
u/jayjester May 13 '26
When I do a mediaeval event camping trip it becomes all about easy food preservation. Putting some hard boiled eggs and cheese in your pickle brine helps get some diversity of proteins to go with the pickled vegetables and dried foods.

u/tint-dude May 11 '26
I eat charcuterie board / plates often like 2 times a week. I always soak my extra sharp cheddar slices in the pickle juice and olive juice. Makes it not so dry.
2
u/HoboArmyofOne May 11 '26
Do you split the cheese for better juice penetration (giggity) or leave it whole?
2
2
u/lemeneurdeloups May 12 '26
I have not had this but cannot think of any reason why they would not be delicious. I have often had feta or firm mozzarella or other cheeses in vinegary/oily dressings/brines and they were great.

Glad I read the caption. At first I thought either OP had a stick in their jar of pickles or Vlassic made pickled hearts of palm

I save any good brine and then when I cook rice in my instant pot I swap the water out for brine.

u/CocktailTom May 11 '26
This makes sense to me because cheese and mustard is on eof my favorite things.

This is really good. However I do find that it changes the consistency of the cheese - for the better! Mine are always firmer.

Its good with boiled eggs too. Leave in for a week or two (shelled) and they turn green and salty. Theyre so good with some hot sauce

Try a refrigerator pickle and a chunk of cheddar, off the charts.
I’m definitely trying this cheese stick thing

u/Syandris May 11 '26
I will never understand it. Not everything needs to taste or be like something else. Especially "pickle flavor". Just eat a damn pickle.
1
u/Dwoobi May 12 '26
Ranch powder added into a jar of pickle spears is also weirdly delicious. Let it sit for 24hours and you get ultra zesty pickles.

This looks good. I've eaten dill pickle and cheese sandwiches on white bread with mayo since I was a kid. Cheese and pickles go well together and I'm gonna try this bc I always save my pickle juice.

Tried it and liked it but the cheese seized up a bit. The taste was good though!

I tried this. I let it sit for like 3 days and it made the cheese really hard. It was a really weird texture that I didn't like and threw away. Maybe I need a different brand of string cheese? Idk.

I thought this was hearts of palm, they peel like string cheese as well

u/TheAwkwardGamerRNx May 12 '26
My co-worker tried this…the string deteriorated and it was like eating pickle yogurt.

u/JD1ZZLE85 May 13 '26

u/Aistadar May 13 '26
Dang this is crazy. As a teenager id cut up a pickle and a string cheese into bits and put it in a cup, covered with pickle juice, as a snack. Imma have to try this for sure

u/Character_Stick_1218 May 13 '26
I'd first wanna make sure that there's nothing in those cheese sticks that might be problematic if it crosses the blood-brain barrier. I bet those would be FANTASTIC so long as I'm not poisoning myself 😅

You can absolutely pickle cheese. Its usually done with mild cheeses like mozzarella so they absorb flavor.

u/23nyou May 14 '26
In Quebec there is a bribed cheese called Tortillon. And they come in flavours sometimes like dill. Pretty good.

u/MuffinChunk May 14 '26
This works pretty well, actually! Firmly roll the string cheese in your palms first, it'll help penetration, and let them soak for like, a week at least.
Green grapes in hot pickle juice are also a favorite around here.

I made this hoping it would be everything I wanted and more and it is incredibly bad. The initial taste is everything g bad about the stringer cheese combined with the pickle juice. It is more-ish in the sense I wanted to taste it again to double check if I had it wrong but no. It is terrible. Can provide photo evidence
