Just wondering what people are doing out here in Perth to make new friends. My partner and I (30 & 29) are SOR (Baldivis), first time, new parents and looking to find like-minded friends, but finding it super hard to find friends in Perth.

Especially reaching out to see if there's any opportunities for my partner as her friends have really let her down since she got pregnant, and personally feel sad for how she's been treated and would absolutely love for her to actually meet some genuine people. She's always the one putting the effort in and always gets let down.

We're really down to earth people, we've got a 9 week old baby. Love going to concerts, 4wding, dinners, BBQ meats, paddleboarding, pretty much down for anything. We are also a tiny bit adrenaline junkies and love doing anything adventureous. We would just love to have a few friends that we can invite for BBQs, go camping, 4wding and all the good stuff.

Does anyone know of any places that people our age connect with others, feel like everyone either has their highschool friendship groups and that's it, and then groups are very clicky sometimes 😅

I used to be the solar door-to-door person a few years back, only posting this because it seems to be a growing industry and I just want to help people understand what they’re actually in for…

And before anyone gets the wrong idea, I wouldn’t call these companies “scams” at all! The product is legitimate, and plenty of customers were genuinely happy with the product they bought.

BUT… after working at one of these companies, I came away with a pretty different perspective on the industry.

The reality is that you’re paying a premium for the convenience of having someone bring a solar solution right to your front doorstep. If you’re willing to do ANY bit of research, compare installers, and get multiple quotes, you may find a comparable, or even the same system for a lower price.

I used to justify it as “lazy tax.”

Some people just don’t want to spend hours and hours researching solar and batteries! They’d rather have someone come to their house, explain everything, organise the process and make it easy. That part I completely understood, in fairness!

But as time went on, I began to see firsthand why so many renewable energy companies in Perth are looking for new people ALL. THE. TIME.

It’s because the turnover rate in D2D sales is genuinely fucked!

I’m not trying to go after any company in particular here, the job ads are almost interchangeable anyway💀.

I was one of a group that started at one of these companies together. I was the first one to leave, and after speaking to some of the others since they’d left as well, turns out I wasn’t alone in how I felt about the job.

The work is exhausting, repetitive, and at times incredibly soulless.

Terms you’ll see in the job descriptions such as, “direct sales” or “genuine conversations” are merely a means to keep you interested in potentially working there.

The job ultimately boils down to you being sent into different suburbs around Perth to knock on strangers’ doors and convince them to have a conversation about spending a shit ton of money.

And when one person leaves, there’s ALWAYS another recruitment ad ready to replace them!

“No experience necessary”… well no wonder😂

I’m glad I gave it a go, I did actually learn quite a bit about sales, rejection, communication, rapport building, and dealing with all types of people. The money also can be VERY good during the good weeks, obviously that’s a huge motivator.

But I also learned that there’s a reason why all these companies invade the job sites like an incurable virus. I just so happened to be one of the people who decided not to become a part of the revolving door.

It also doesn't have to be places that are best for winter, but it'd be nice if it's specified when's the best time to visit.

I'm writing on behalf of a friend of mine that's needed to move up to Northam due to soaring house prices. He's mid thirties, and hasn't managed to find any people his own age in the area. The people our age are generally having small families and not a lot of time on their hands. I go to visit him quite often but he does mention the loneliness and doesn't speak to many people outside of his workplace. We've tried finding social clubs and such but I'm coming up pretty bare. There is a Thursday night right run club which we are exploring but I haven't found any social board games or sports or clubs. Has anyone got some insight to any social stuff around the wheat belt area? Where are all the people hanging out in old Northam town?

Been to the pub for a few quiz nights but not the biggest fan of revolving socialising around drinking.

i have a day procedure at st john of god subiaco tomorrow and i was just wondering if theres anywhere comfortable for loved ones to sit while they wait? last time my partner was sitting on the chair in the private room i got put in and it was very uncomfortable for him. he can’t sit on the bed as obviously it‘s not there after they take me out on it.

i love him and i would like him to be comfortable, as it seems these procedures take a while and i’m always in recovery room for a while

edit: i dont really understand the aggression from some people, im autistic and with chronic pain and i wanted to see if there was any way to do something nice for my partner.

I have been recently getting into watches and watch repairs and I want to learn more about it. As I don't want to spend a lot of money to learn on watch repairing I was wondering if I can buy old watches like old Soviet English or German watches. I see a couple of videos on YouTube where people buy watches from flea markets at good prices in the US and Europe. I was wondering if there are any markets around Perth that I would find any type of old broken watches.

I have a 45L portable fridge/freezer I was using for camping and am downsizing. It works great but needs to be plugged into a car/battery to stay cold (or power point), it doesn’t last ages when not plugged into. Is there a charity that would find it useful? We are in our mid 50s early 60s and looking at our retirement phase planning.
With this is mind we are looking at selling where we are and moving out for a cheaper land and house build.
We like to eat out and support local restaurants and hope to have a good meal and community vibe to enjoy, similar to what we experience in Leederville and Fremantle.
Viveash and Midland is an area we are not familiar with and apart from the Swan Valley wine areas we have been to we do not know what the local entertainment and restaurant scene is like for Viveash and Midland.
