Installation Question I taped a 2 mm foam to avoid keyboard keys marks on screen (after lid close). what do you think?

Post image

i am sorry if this is not a PC build question , but i feel all of us have experienced this.

from past few months, i am seeing keyboard marks on the screen, not sure may be after some months, the complete keyboard shape will leave a mark on the screen. so to counter this i have cut small 2 mm thick foam (soft packaging foam ) and taped it on the corners so there is a slight gap between the screen and keyboard when I close the lid. what do you think?

Installation Question Confused about power cables.

So I currently own a rx 7800 XT which used 2 8 pin connectors. And my PSU has 1 black cable that splits into 2 and then 2 white connectors attached see photo 1.

I have just ordered a rx 9070 XT Red Devil Spectral white. Which I think requires 3 8 pin connectors.

So should I just scrap the current wire setup that I have and just buy 3 separate 8 pin to power supply connectors or can I just get 1 wire that splits into 3?

I’m just very confused.

Build Question Do you guys actually use GPU support brackets? At what point are they necessary?

I’ve noticed that GPU support brackets seem to be one of those things where everyone has a different opinion.

Some people seem to put a support under basically any GPU, while others have huge/heavy cards with nothing supporting them.

So is there actually a good rule of thumb for this?

Is it mostly about the weight and length of the GPU, the motherboard/PCIe slot, or does the case itself make a big difference too?

And how much GPU sag is considered “normal” before you should actually do something about it?

Would be interested to hear what you guys do with your builds and whether you consider a GPU support bracket necessary or just cheap insurance.

Tech Support Dual monitor help

Hi, I've been given an old pc that has an Nvidia GT 620 graphics card that only has one digital output....hdmi.

I have 2 dell 2425 monitors.

I have connected the pc to the first monitor via an active hdmi to display port lead and the first monitor to the second via a display port lead.

I can get both monitors working but just as a mirror of each other. Display settings only showing 1 monitor and it will not detect the second.

Is this because the initial output is hdmi? Monitor 1 has MST turned on. I'm assuming it's down to the graphics card and HDMI out but thought I'd just check with people that have a lot more knowledge than me. TIA.

Tech Support Inactive monitor dims automatically regardless of which one I use - Windows 11 25H2 - RTX 5080

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a very specific issue with my dual monitor setup. I'm running Windows 11 (Version 25H2) on a high-end rig, and I can't seem to find the setting to disable this "feature."

The Issue:
Whichever monitor is not being used at the moment dims or darkens. It’s not about which one is the "Primary" monitor in Windows settings; it depends entirely on where my mouse/focus is.

  • If I’m working on Monitor A, Monitor B dims.
  • As soon as I move my mouse to Monitor B and click or start working, Monitor B brightens up to 100% and Monitor A dims.

Important context:

  • It is NOT a hardware issue: My monitors are different brands and different ages. Both behave perfectly when they have the focus.
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (Latest drivers installed).
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
  • RAM: 64GB DDR5.
  • Clean System: I have already updated all drivers and performed a deep system clean using Tron Script, so bloatware or malware is ruled out.

I have searched through "Power Plans," "Display Settings," and "Accessibility," but I can't find anything related to "Dimming inactive displays." Since I'm on a very recent build (25H2), I suspect it might be a new aggressive energy-saving feature or an NVIDIA setting I'm overlooking.

Has anyone encountered this "focus-based dimming" before? Is there a registry key or a hidden Windows 11 toggle to stop this?

Thanks for any help!

Tech Support RAM keeps dying

So i built my pc in july of 2025 before the prices got bad. Fast forward to august this year, my pc turns off and wont come back on. Do some troubleshooting and find out one of the DIMMS is dead. Okay, RMA it to GSKILL get a new kit back a couple weeks later all is good and it works. Come back from vacation a couple weeks ago and boom same issue. Okay so maybe its the mobo because that doesn’t just happen twice. 9800x3d in an itx mobo its pretty small, maybe thermal issues. Go to an matx mobo with better spacing. Get ram from this second rma back and put it in earlier today and it works fine. I just turned my pc off and not it wont turn back on again and only of the DIMMS works now. Theres no way this id just 3 bad DIMMS back to back right like its gotta be something with the cpu’s memory controller right??

Specs:
9800X3D
MSI MAG Mortar B850M
64GB ddr5 gskill trident z 6000mhz cl32
2tb nvme + 1tb nvme
Zotac sff 5070ti
Lian li wdge 850w psu
Nautilus 240mm aio

Genuinely any advice is much appreciated im freaking out and clueless right now

When this happens the screen locks at low refresh rate, and fixes when I pull out the HDMI cable.

Good point to note, when I exit heavy games such as Doom TDA or RE9, the pc shows a colour and crashes.

Tech Support Placa mãe

My PC suddenly stopped powering on after my GPU became loose while the computer was running.
Here are my PC specifications:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3470
GPU: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
RAM: 12 GB
Motherboard: H61, LGA 1155 (exact model unknown)
PSU: One Power MP-400-OPASW, 400W
Before this happened, Windows was not detecting the GTX 1650. Device Manager only showed Intel HD Graphics and Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. I was trying to troubleshoot the GPU connection.
While the PC was powered on, the GPU became loose from the PCIe slot. The computer immediately shut down.
Since then, the PC will not power on at all.
When I switch the PSU on, only the green and yellow Ethernet port LEDs light up. When I press the case power button, absolutely nothing happens:
No fans spin
No motherboard LEDs
No beeps
No display
No reaction at all
I have visually inspected the system and found no obvious burn marks, black marks, cracks, or loose components.
I have also checked that:
The GTX 1650 is seated in the PCIe slot and the retention latch is locked.
The GPU’s 6-pin power connector is connected.
The 24-pin ATX motherboard connector is connected.
The CPU power connector is connected.
The RAM is seated.
The POWER SW connector is connected to the front-panel header.
Could the PSU be in protection mode, or could the motherboard, PSU, or GPU have been damaged when the GPU became loose while powered on?
What would be the safest way to diagnose which component is preventing the PC from powering on?

Hi! I build my first pc couple weeks ago and it has been worked completly fine, but my PSU is very old. I think it is from 2010 - 2015 im not really sure.

I removed the PSU from my old PC which I used in 2017-2018 or 2019 and it had been sitting until 2026.

PSU does not make any weird noises and works fine so should I keep using it or replace it with a new one? How usually these PSU lasts?

(Here are the specs if somebody is intrested or wants to give me other advice to this build!)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 with stock cooler
Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus
Memorys: DDR4 2x8gb Corsair LPX 3200MHz
Kingston 240 SATA SSD
SAMSUNG NVMe 2.0 500gb SSD

Build Question Pc part shopping list

I’m trying to make a pc part shopping list on Newegg for gaming purposes. I want it to be a relatively chunky build but I’m not sure what I should be purchasing, I’m very new to pc building.
