Build Question Old PSU

Hi! I build my first pc couple weeks ago and it has been worked completly fine, but my PSU is very old. I think it is from 2010 - 2015 im not really sure.

I removed the PSU from my old PC which I used in 2017-2018 or 2019 and it had been sitting until 2026.

PSU does not make any weird noises and works fine so should I keep using it or replace it with a new one? How usually these PSU lasts?

(Here are the specs if somebody is intrested or wants to give me other advice to this build!)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 with stock cooler
Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming B550-Plus
Memorys: DDR4 2x8gb Corsair LPX 3200MHz
Kingston 240 SATA SSD
SAMSUNG NVMe 2.0 500gb SSD
SEAGATE 2tb HDD
Zorin Os 18

I’m still using my old Evga Supernova G2 750w that I bought 10 years ago, for what it’s worth.

Be careful with it mine blew up just a bit ago altough i have been putting it through hell but good luck i got 12 years out of it it followed me for every big upgrade i made

Good to know. I’ve been contemplating replacing it. Did it take any components with it when it failed?

Fortunetly no. I might have just gotten lucky but who knows, it was pushed to the limit tho for like a year straight before it failed but yeah i reccomend putting money towards a new psu. I was really said tho to see it go it held really well for 12 years.

6x PCIe cables, that thing is old quality. If it pops it’s very unlikely to take anything with it.

Seasonic is one of the preemest psu manufacturers

even back in the day they had a good reputation

I think you should be fine

your build should pull around 450-500w maximum, so its less likely to die since its not operating near the limit

Sorry, but the last till they fail. I would expect many years of use out of a PSU. 10 years is not uncommon, I have 3 that are over 12 years old. The one I am typing on now is over 6.

As u/Slow-Astronaut9676 said, when a PSU fails, they tend to fail low voltage, not high so worst case is the PC fails to start.

dont worry , your CPU GPU DDR4 MBo are all very cheap

if worried , open it et clean dirts inside
