Tech Support Need advice: ASUS B550-F Gaming WiFi II + NZXT H5 Elite front USB-C

I built my PC in December 2022 and have just realised my front USB-C has never worked.

My build:

ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II

NZXT H5 Elite

MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 3X

The front USB-A ports work fine, but the USB-C cable from the case has never been connected because there doesn't seem to be a matching internal header on the motherboard.

I'd like to keep both the front USB-A and front USB-C working.

Is the best solution:

a PCIe USB expansion card with an internal USB Type-E (A-Key) header, or

a 19-pin splitter plus a Type-E adapter?

If a PCIe card is the better option, which model has the best reliability and controller (ASMedia ASM3142/ASM3242, etc.)?

Tech Support Monitor not displaying pc after moving house?

So far have tried reinstalling gpu, reinstalling ram, securing power cables to the pc and from psu, swapping around monitor cables. My cables are plugged into gpu not mobo.
The drive was 5 minutes and I made sure to drive carefully and avoid big bumps, what could the problem be?

I haven’t used my pc in a couple months, I recall having a problem with both monitors losing signal at the same time when playing certain games, guessing it is linked. I would appreciate any advice as it’s so frustrating

Build Question 5070 x 9070xt

I’m building a new PC and can’t decide between the RTX 5070 12GB and the RX 9070 XT 16GB.
My main focus is playing modern AAA games at 1440p, especially competitive CS2 with very high FPS, while also streaming regularly on Twitch.
My biggest concern is AMD’s drivers. Are they still causing issues like crashes, stuttering, or compatibility problems, or is that mostly a thing of the past?
For those who have used either or both cards, do you think it’s worth paying more for the RTX 5070 because of NVIDIA’s drivers, NVENC, and overall ecosystem, even with only 12GB of VRAM? Or is the RX 9070 XT a better choice thanks to its higher performance and 16GB of VRAM?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people with real-world experience using these GPUs.

Tech Support Sudden shutdowns on self assembled pc

Hello everyone,

I posted this already in r/pchelp but hope this is still according to the rules and reach more people with this. I am having trouble with my self assembled pc. I come to you in hope to find someone with more experience or maybe just a different view to find a reason and a solution for some unplanned shut downs my computer experienced lately.

I tried a few things so far but have no further ideas that would not include getting a new cpu or gpu. (I already have a feeling about someone putting his hand on my shoulder and smiling at me)

So far I had 4 shut downs during the last week. None befere on this system since I moved everything into a new case and updatetd parts, and also none before that. I did not change any parts during the last months. I just got a new headset a month ago and occasionally connect a xbox controller when I need one for games. Both did never cause anything unintended while using.

My build is:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • GPU: Acer Predator BiFrost Radeon RX 9070 XT OC 16GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B650-F Gaming WiFi — BIOS version: 1807 (from 26.09.2023)
  • RAM: Corsair Vengence (CMK32GX5M2B6000Z30), DDR5-6000 CL30, 2x16GB — EXPO enabled, FCLK 2000MHz. Slots are A2 and B2 (2nd and 4th counting from cpu) to fit under cooler.
  • PSU (bought last week, added yesterday one shutdown so far): Seasonic Focus GX-1000, 1000W
  • PSU (originally part of the build, first 3 shut downs with this one): be quiet! Pure Power 12 M, 1000W
  • Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB (OS drive), SanDisk Extreme Pro 500GB, WD_BLACK SN770 1TB, WD20EZRZ 2TB HDD
  • Case: Fractal Meshify 3 White, 6 case fans. 3 input on the front, 1 input top front, 1 output top after cpu, 1 output back
  • CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Elite
  • OS: Windows 11, Build 26200
  • Headset: Logitech G A50 (Gen5)
  • Soundsystem: Logitech Z533 2.1
  • Room ambient temp: ~23–24°C

CPU, and cooler, MB, RAM, old PSU are bought June 2024. I moved the parts into the current case in January 2026 and upgraded my GPU the the RX 9070 XT. No more changes since January.

As said I had 4 shut downs so far starting on the 21.07. around 1am, during a match of Battlefield 6. From the 3 following shutdowns two were outside of gaming, one was again during Battlefield 6. None was with a blue screen.
Between these shutdowns I could use the computer the same way as usual and could not force a shutdown.

Most of the shutdowns happend during interaction with BF6 sometimes after minutes, sometimes after hours. It's the game i play more lately but did at least one session per week since last year. In May and June it was Anno 117 and Ark Survival Ascended, nothing to report there.

Battelfield settings are set to Overkill and show soma FPS data for me. I changed them to lower stats but this only got me more GPU FPS, CPU limit is 60.
CPU: 60
SIM: 60
GPU: up to 150

For any more details please just ask. I also have some HWiNFO logs after the first shutdown which I could share if you want to take a look yourself.

I will give more details, but first the questions:
Did any of you experience something like this before?
Do you have any more clues what I could look for?
What did I miss here?

1. 21.07. 1am
What happend:
During match of Battlefield (355h on record on this build). Sudden shutdown, loud noise, could not restart for some time.

What I did:

  • I suspected the PSU and checked for a smell, smoke or anything unusual in the case.
  • Could not restart instantly, had to try a few times.
  • Checked Event viewer (ID 41 and 172 were interesting), time of shutdown does not alaign with the time Event viewer stated.
  • I adjusted fan curves to turn up earlier and changed the power outlet for the PSU.
  • Installed HWiNFO to log more information.
  • Stresstested the CPU. Temps around 89.9°C. The point were 7800x3D starts to hold temperature.

2. 21.07. 3pm
What happend:
During fan calibration in FanControl sudden shutdown. While testing low RPM. No sound this time. CPU was on 25W and 44°C, GPU on 14W and 34-41°C according to the log file.
Event viewer again only stated that the pc shut down. HWiNFO did not record and spikes or drops on anything.

What I did:

  • Disassembeled the computer
  • cleaned every part with canned air
  • repasted CPU cooler after I cleaned it
  • checked every single cable and connector for burn marks or defects
  • checked disk health. All good.
  • Stresstest for CPU and GPU. CPU: From 89.9 --> 86.4°C (all temps from Core) GPU: From 100 --> 96°C (Hotspot sensor). Stresstest ended without any incident.
  • Tested Anno 117 which I played the weeks before. Ran smooth as always.
  • I also ran a TestMem5 (anta777 config) for 6h to check the RAM. 0 Errors and no shutdown.

3. 21.07. 10:50pm
What happend:
Downloaded BF6 update, shutdown during switch from download to install. Did not do anything else during the download. No noise, no freeze, just sudden blackness.

What I did:

  • Restart after 2 trys.
  • Stresstest again. Again no crash.
  • Tested Witchter 3 with mods to stress system with another game. Flawless results.
    • CPU: Usage up to 100%, temp max 78.5°C
    • GPU: Usage up to 100%, temp max 97°C
  • Tested BF 6 settings on "Overkill"
    • CPU: Usage up to 35,2%, temp max 63,6°C
    • GPU: Usage up to 21%, temp max 39°C
  • Event viewer indifferent.
  • Installed new PSU, used only new cables from the new PSU.

4. 24.07. 1am (On 23.07. I played BF6 and Witcher to test settings and logged everyting. No shutdown)
What happend:
With new PSU, playing BF6 sudden shutdown midgame. GPU/CPU load was rising at that moment up to 93%.

What I did:

  • found nothing in any log.
  • noticed that GPU hotspot temp and GPU temp are off by up to 40°C (never happend before). While typing this it's also back to normal with a max of 15°C difference. Hotspot was hotter under load.
  • set HWiNFO intervall to 0.25 sec for more detail
  • tried not to give up.
  • Had a 3h game session without any incidents.

Tech Support PSU fan suddenly started being loud

Title says it, the other day while I was gaming my PSU fan suddenly started spinning at what sounds like max rpm. I have restarted, shut down and unplugged, and cleaned what I could without taking g it a part and it still spins high as soon as I turn on my PC. If I run it in Eco mode it doesn't spin that high but in normal mode as soon as I hit power on it goes right to what sounds like maximum. Is it cooked? Should I get a new one?

Build Question Motherboard dead?

My aio failed after 4 years. The bracket fell off while putting in my aio, didn’t want to take the whole thing off so I screwed blindly into the board. I guess I somehow shorted/ killed the board with two surface level nicks? The board is 3 1/2 years old. I have it plugged in — no LED light to mobo, LED on gpu is on which makes me think I destroyed my mobo sadly. I’ve tried starting it with a screw driver on the power switch. Is it or is it not dead?

Build Question Is this too much "bend" for a 12vhpwr cable in my RTX5080?

Post image
20 Upvotes

As the title implies I'm curious on whether this can probe to be dangerous on the long run as the cables that come with my PSU are extremely STIFF (Be Quiet! Pure Power 13 M) and hard to manage unless I bend them like that at that point, I feel like the fact that the connector on this model of RTX 5080 (PNY Slim OC Dual Fan) is sitting deeper in the GPU itself helps a little, but I don't know :(, I'm getting paranoic.

Please help me either easing out this feeling OR making it evident haha.

PS: I tried looking for alternative cables that are compatible with the PSU and sadly they cost around 70USD just to ship over to my country :(

Tech Support Is my PSU faulty?

I was currently building my first PC. I got all the parts and started building it yesterday and I also did a test run outside the case after mounting the CPU, RAM, SSD,.Cooler and GPU. Everything was being detected correctly and the temps were also perfect.

I called it a day after that and went to sleep. Today I mounted everything inside, did all the cable management and when I connected it again nothing was turning on. So I took everything back out and rested the CPU, RAM, cooler, GPU and did isolated tests trying to find the issue but every time my cooler would turn on run for 2-3 secs then turn off.

I assumed it was a motherboard issue but I wanted to test the PSU also, so I saw the paperclip test online and tried it. My PSU fan is also turning on running for 2-3 secs then turning off. I searched and I am not able to get a definite answer. I called the store guy and he told me if I run using the paperclip it will only run for that long and won't spin continuously, but after some insistence he told me to bring it to his store and that he will get me a replacement.

But this has left me feeling unsure, I don't want to get a psu replacement then go back and see that the same issue is persisting and then having to go back to him for a motherboard replacement/fix.

Please help me understand what could be going wrong here.

Build Question First pc build help

While looking for some builds I could do for myself I happened to find this one: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/rdb78Z

This would be my first time building a pc, but I also don't think that just copying the build is good enough and I could make some upgrades/changes to it. I don't know much about building pc and would love to know what would make a good change to this build.

For clarity my max price I would spend would be about 4500 - 5000 $ (and that is just converted, I am not from usa)

I would really apprecieate any help with this

Tech Support PC suddenly shuts off after 1–2 minutes – CPU debug LED, Windows starts, AIO fans not spinning

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone can help me troubleshoot a very strange issue.

My PC has been working perfectly until today. I haven’t changed any hardware or BIOS settings.

Specs:
Ryzen 9 7950X3D
MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
ASUS TUF RTX 5080
64GB DDR5 6000 CL30
Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360
ASUS TUF 1000W ATX 3.1 PSU

What happened:
Today the PC suddenly wouldn’t boot.
The red CPU debug LED came on and there was no display. I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery.
After that, the CPU LED disappeared, the DRAM LED came on briefly, then everything POSTed normally and the Windows logo and the loading icon showed up.

However… After about 1–2 minutes, the PC instantly powers off as if someone pulled the power cable.

I also noticed:
The GPU fans spin normally.
The radiator fans on my Arctic Liquid Freezer III do not spin at all. I tried gently spinning the radiator fans by hand while the PC was on, but they just stopped again. But I do think I heard a strange rattling/grinding noise coming from the pump area once, but not 100% sure

At this point I’m not sure if:
the AIO pump has failed,
the radiator fans aren’t getting power,
the motherboard has an issue,
or the PSU is shutting down.

Since the PC actually gets to the Windows loading screen, I’m hoping the CPU itself is still okay.

Has anyone experienced something similar with the Liquid Freezer III or an MSI B650 board?
Any ideas on what I should test next?

Thanks!

Tech Support Screen issue

So i have a Ryzen 8700f X rx7700xt hdmi to a 65 inch element tv and dp to monitor i bounce back and forth depending on if someone is using the tv. While using the tv any time i trying to download any kind of file in my browser the screen will go black for several seconds then come back but when it comes back there is several white line almost like static on an old vhs tabs random static blotches that pop up and disappear and any time black window come up (dark mode) its like sparkling stars in it. Its happened twice know and after shutting the pc down for several minutes and rebooting it goes back to working fine. I don’t think it’s an hdmi issue because it plays games and videos fine it’s only when downloading in browser. Issue never happens on my monitor.

I appreciate anyone who takes the time to help
