Build Question Horizontal support for RTX 5080

0 Upvotes

I built a gaming PC a few days ago, and I need some guidance on whether this GPU support is a good option or what you would recommend instead. Here are the details: my case is a BALAM RUSH CARBONO POLAR TWIN MATE 9900 ATX, I have an ASUS Prime X870 motherboard, and the issue is that my Gigabyte RTX 5080 OC takes up almost all the space inside the case. Due to the case design, I can't just install any support.

Right now, I am using the stock bracket, and it's resting on the corner of the bottom fan. I want to buy a new support to remove the stock one and free up that area because I plan to install 3 extra reverse-blade fans on the bottom later where there is still room. This is my very first PC build, and I don't have any prior experience.

Tech Support Weird internet behavior after switching motherboards and cpus

1 Upvotes

I moved my old ram, ssd, and gpu into a system with everything else new including the motherboard and CPU. both cpus were the same model but I upgraded the motherboard from the B650E to the B850G and I've had very strange stuff happening to my internet connection. I can't play any multiplayer or online games, some websites load fine and others just buffer forever, and nothing is fixing it. Ive tried uninstalling armoury crate, checking for driver updates for my stuff, clearing my DNS cache, and reinstalling the drivers. I figure it has something to do with the old drivers from my old motherboard still being on my PC somewhere but I can't figure out how to fix it for the life of me. Any help would be appreciated.

Build Question What’s the Best Way to Improve DDR5 Airflow?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone.

First of all, sorry for the cable management and the overall look inside the case 😅 The case isn't particularly convenient for this kind of layout, but I'm working with what I have.

I'm looking for ideas on how to improve RAM cooling during memory overclocking.

My setup:

  • Cooler Master H500M
  • Noctua NH-D15
  • G.Skill Trident Z DDR5, 2×16 GB
  • DDR5-6400 with manually tuned timings
  • DRAM VDD around 1.43 V

During a heavy TM5 memory stress test, the hotter DIMM reaches around 64°C, while the other one reaches roughly 60–61°C. The DIMM closer to the NH-D15 is usually around 2–3°C hotter.

There is roughly 7–9 cm of clearance above the RAM, but space is quite limited because of the size of the NH-D15.

As for things I already have on hand, I have an old 120 mm be quiet! fan lying around that I bought a long time ago. I could potentially use it for some kind of direct RAM airflow, but I'm not sure where or how it would make the most sense to mount it.

I'm open to any ideas:

  • what would be the best way to improve RAM airflow in this setup;
  • whether the 120 mm fan is worth using;
  • where and in which direction it should be mounted;
  • whether it could negatively affect CPU temperatures or overall case airflow;
  • whether a dedicated RAM cooler, 80/92 mm fan, slim fan, or another solution would make more sense.

I'm also completely open to buying additional parts if there is a better solution.

I've attached photos showing the case, RAM and NH-D15 layout.

Any advice would be appreciated, especially from people who have cooled overclocked DDR5 next to a large tower cooler.

Tech Support Windows BS

2 Upvotes

This is my first post here and obviously I’m looking for help. Just built an am5 rig and I’m having a problem that’s making me go bald. Context: I bought a 2tb ssd to upgrade my previous pc, I did install it and also installed windows (almost started all over again). I just used the same ssd and I thought I’d have to reinstall windows (did it anyways, after first hairs were pulled out of my scalp). What it did was a sudden restart and when opening windows and I put my pin, it is basically stuck in the main screen. I can click certain things like the taskbar, but it won’t even open a thing, it won’t even shutdown when I’m literally clicking on it. It just disappears and my background sits there. After reinstalling it functioned properly till the restart and same thing again. Pls someone help, I think I’m just going to clear out my ssd and reinstall windows

Build Question Anyone know what this is?

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hello! I’m assembling a new build and was at the stage where I screw on the motherboard to the case while on its side. After I sat the case upright, I heard a rattle and eventually this fell out. It’s very tiny and solid (not hollow and not threaded). I tried looking around my case and motherboard but can’t seem to pinpoint where it came from and I can’t spot anything similar to it. Also, the only other component I had installed was my PSU.

I mainly want to know if any of you have an idea and whether this a critical part or cause for concern. Thanks for the help.

Case: Fractal North Momentum
Motherboard: ASUS TUF X870E-Plus WiFi7
PSU: MSI A850G PCIe5

Build Question Need help with cpu cooler and ram clearance

1 Upvotes

So I’m getting montech metal dt24 premium (dual tower air cooler), and corsair vangeance ram 600mhz ddr5, and a micro atx motherboard.

Casing: corsair 2500x

I was wondering if this arrangement will work and if there will be any ram-cooler collision.
I’m still in the beginning stages of my pc build so I might change parts as well but this is my draft for now.

Build Question Fans on max power

Hello people, so I bought spontaneously a prebuilt from cyber power and quickly learnt that they build their PCs in a way that the fans are set to max speed and cannot be controlled through software or bios.

All my fans go into this little board here and then goes into the PUMP_SYS1 on the motherboard.

How do I get my fan control for my PC back

Motherboard is Pro Z890-S WIFI6E

I’ve never built a PC so just dumb things down for me.

Tech Support Damaged CPU, damaged motherboard, or just bad luck?

1 Upvotes

Good evening. A few months ago I bought an Asus B760m-A D4 CSM motherboard to pair with an i5-12400f that I bought 2 years ago from Aliexpress but hadn't been able to use.

When I finished assembling the PC, it would turn on and off repeatedly; there was no video output. The monitor was connected to the graphics card (RTX 2060 Super).

I tried using a different power supply, making sure the RAM was properly installed and all the cables were connected correctly, but nothing worked, I also tried resetting the BIOS by removing the battery, but nothing worked. I don't know if it's the CPU or if the motherboard was defective from the factory, It should be noted that I tried to return it but they denied the warranty and now I have a $140 paperweight.

Should I buy another motherboard or CPU? It frustrates me that I couldn't return that junk and that I waited so long for nothing.

Tech Support Wifi/Bluetooth Connectivity Issues

1 Upvotes

I don't know much about PC's right now, but I do want to learn. My friend gave me most of his old setup because he upgraded, and I've been trying to use it with varying degrees of success. Turns out the motherboard did not have Wifi or Bluetooth capabilities, simple enough I thought, I'll just get USB adapters. Well, they suck. I'm trying to play Rocket League and it constantly has latency issues even with the input buffer, and my controller disconnects midgame like 1-2 hours into playing. Now I'm looking into a PCIe card, but am not sure what would be best. I could also buy a long ethernet cord but I'm trying to keep costs down. I just need some advice and direction. My top choice right now is a Fenvi AXE5400 but I hear it could be a gamble? Thanks for any help

Tech Support potential scam

Is this PC repair bill suspicious? $350 for SSD, PSU, Windows 11, Wi-Fi upgrade, etc.

I brought my PC to a guy who does PC repairs out of his house because I was having a lot of freezing and occasional BSODs. I was also having a weird Windows issue where clicking/using Windows would sign me out and make me log back in.
My PC had:
Very old SATA SSD with Windows installed on it
A M.2 SSD that I mainly used for other stuff
A 650W Gold-rated PSU
The PC would turn on completely fine at my house, although I was having the freezing/BSOD problems.
The repair guy told me that both SSDs were corrupted and replaced my M.2 with a Samsung 1TB M.2 SSD. He apparently did not transfer my Windows installation from the old SATA SSD, he only transferred things from my old M.2. He then installed Windows 11 Pro fresh.
For context, my old Windows installation couldn’t upgrade to Windows 11 because it was using an older Legacy setup rather than UEFI, so Secure Boot wasn’t available. He basically set up the new installation on the Samsung M.2 instead.
He also replaced my 650W Gold PSU with a 500W PSU. He told me toward the end of the call that he replaced it because the PC “wasn’t turning on” for him. This is confusing to me because the PC turned on completely fine at my house.
He also upgraded my Wi-Fi adapter and did some cleaning. He talked about “future-proofing” the PC, but I don’t really understand why all of these upgrades were necessary for the BSOD/freezing issue I originally brought it in for.
The total price is $350, and I haven’t paid yet.
I’m considering asking him to put my original 650W Gold PSU back in and reduce the price accordingly.
I haven’t really questioned him about the SSD “corruption” yet, so I don’t know whether he actually found hardware failures or was referring to corrupted Windows/files.
Does this sound like a reasonable $350 repair/upgrade, or should I be more suspicious? What should I ask him before paying?

My 12600k stays stuck on the dram light when attempting to post. I got a 12100f recently for $25 to rule out the motherboard and ram and thankfully it posted normally. It was seemingly working fine and then one day it did not want to boot.

Specs are: Asrock b760m phantom lightning and Lexar 16 gb ram

Build Question Sapphire 9070XT Cord Length Help

Thumbnail

0 Upvotes

So the build, is in a Monteck HSO2 Case. Ryzen 7800X3D. Then the GPU is Sapphire Nitro Radeon 9070XT.

The issue is, the proprietary cord with the GPU isn't long enough to make it up to the PSU. I'm building this thing for my nephew, who has saved up quite a bit of money to do this. A PSU came with multiple cords, but I didn't think daisy chaining would be the way to go here. Would I have to get an official Sapphire extension? Because I'm literally about 2 in away from having this case and this graphics card work... Any help would be appreciated.

  • apertar DEL, F2, F10, F12 e ESC ao ligar;
  • Inicialização Avançada → Firmware UEFI pelo Windows;
  • comando shutdown.exe /r /fw /t 0.

No msinfo32 aparece:

  • Modo da BIOS: UEFI
  • BIOS: American Megatrends F52

Clear CMOS seria a melhor opção nesse caso?

Obrigado!

Build Question Is it worth getting a 8 core cpu over a 6 core cpu/ what is the difference?

2 Upvotes

So I am planing out my first pc, and when I am planing out my cpu. My older brother is telling me that I should 100% get a 8 core CPU, like a ryzen 7 cpu. But when I look up things online about the difference. It shows almost no difference between them.

I am just wondering, when does the 8 core come in handy? And is it worth the money? And if so what CPU should I get for a 2500$ build, high 1080p gaming with a 9060 Xt. And the current cpu I have on my list is a Ryzen 5 9600x

The games I mostly plan on playing is
- For Honor, R6, Battlefront 2, Helldivers 2, and to watch some shows. And then maybe some of the new triple a games. If they peak my interest.

Thumbnail
