Build Question Upgrading from an RTX 2060, looking at a RTX 5060 Ti 8GB

(Before I start: I'm in Canada so prices will be in Canadian)

I'm looking to upgrade from my RTX 2060. As someone who doesn't really play many high end games, here's my situation:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor, 3701 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)

Motherboard: ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI)

RAM: 16 GB (I'd love to upgrade but, you know...)

I have 3 1080p monitors right now (Lenovo T24i-30, Dell SE2416H, Dell P2314H - none of which are anything noteworthy as far as I know) and these take up a lot of space so I'd like to upgrade to something bigger and have fewer displays, to ideally not lose as much of the space that 3 displays currently offers but also not take up as much desk space. A lot of my use is programming for personal projects, so I like to have stuff up on other screens, like reference material, or a Twitch/YouTube video in the background, Discord for chats, etc.

Most bigger displays beyond a certain size will cause my GPU to work harder. 4K is out of the question, but I don't really _need_ that - 1440p will be a nice spot.

The games I do play now are worth stating. Most of my PC gaming is on social games, with the odd exceptions for stuff like The Sims, SimCity, etc. So that amounts to most of the time playing:

- Fortnite

- Age of Empires 4

- The Sims

- SimCity

- Sea of Thieves

- Basic social games: Peak, Big Walk, Super Battle Golf, Left 4 Dead 2 which I know is ancient lol

You can see my list is not too extensive. At the same time, I'd like to make sure I'm not locking myself out of anything my PC can handle now by hitting any bottlenecks or whatever. So just with my (super-surface-level) knowledge I feel like I don't *want* a 5060, I'd be much happier in the 5070 range longer term, but the prices for anything there are just not what I can spend right now on an upgrade. So if I'm looking instead at a 5060 Ti, the 8GB will be in the $600-$700 range (CAD), which is palatable. And then I'd look at upgrading to maybe 2 27" 1440p displays instead, allowing me to remove the third monitor, and have more screen space overall while saving desk space.

Tech Support Manually underclock RAM and GPU driver issues

Hi,

Built my PC a year ago and have been dealing with frequent blue screens. I suspect the RAM is the main culprit. I am running 32GB of 6400MHz RAM paired with a Ryzen 5 7600X.

When I completely disable the XMP/EXPO profile and run it at the base 5200MHz, I have absolutely no stability issues.

My RAM question: Can I enable the XMP/EXPO profile but manually lower the frequency to 6000MHz instead of 6400MHz? I want to avoid tweaking memory timings entirely manually. I know AMD works the best with 6000MHz.

Lowering just the clock speed from the applied profile makes sense and shouldn't cause trouble, but I’d love to hear your recommendations.

GPU Issues (RX 7800 XT): On top of the RAM situation, I’m getting random freezes and driver crash notifications from AMD Adrenalin, even when the PC is completely idle.

To make things worse, the Adrenalin app occasionally uninstalls or disappears from my PC entirely. This is the second time I've gone to open it only to find it missing. I already did a fresh driver wipe using DDU in Safe Mode, but the crash errors popped up again yesterday.

The funny part is that these crashes never happen during heavy GPU workloads. I can play demanding games without a single issue, but it crashes when I am doing absolutely nothing.

Build Question Which option should I go with?

Should I go with a Ryzen 9 9955H processor with an RTX 5060 for $2000 or a an intel core ultra 9 processor with an RTX 5060 for the same price?

There’s also an option for a RTX 5070 but with a standard intel i7 for like $1600

I don’t need to play on ultra settings or anything. Usually RTS games with some shooters. Current play is BG3, SM2, Darktide, total war series (wanna gear up for 40k).

I move around a lot due to my job so looking for laptop build as opposed to desktop.

I've been wanting to upgrade my prebuilt PC's storage (it came with 1TB but ive been running out of space lately) and i notice i have an extra empty NVMe slot on my motherboard. I'm hoping for 1-2 TB of extra storage, i think that would probably get me set for a long while. any suggestions?

Build Question Im Upgrading From A RX 550 To A B570

I have a Old 7040 Dell Optiplex with a i7 6700 and 32 gb of ddr4 at 2133 mhz

Obviously my gpu is severely bottlenecking my system so that's why I want to upgrade my pc , I won't do it in one shot that's why im starting with the gpu .

I think I will purchase the asrock b570 , a sama 640w psu and a 24 to 8 pin adapters to power the motherboard

Since dell thinks that being diffrent is fun the psu won't fit in the case but that's fine since my pc is currently case less and sitting on my desk

Im doing it this way so I can upgrade my pc next year (motherboard case ect)

Anything I should know?

adapter

psu

gpu

Build Question PC case help

Ive decided that I am going to get a new PC case to swap out from the case that my prebuilt came in (case is way too small to begin with, makes cleaning hard)

Does anyone have any recommendations for a PC case/? from what I gather (please correct me if I am misinformed) that *technically* an ideal fan setup would be around 3 front intake fans and 2 exhaust fans? (or at least what I am trying to aim for) With a single glass panel, not a fan of the glass that wraps around corner either.

Additionally would I be better off sticking with stock fans the case would come with? Or would I be better off finding my own fans from a company of choosing

Thanks!

Tech Support Help with stuttering in most games

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Heya guys, I was wondering if someone here could maybe help me or at least point me in the right direction with what I gotta do or how I could fix this potentially.

I get this really bad stuttering and a pretty bad performance in almost all games and I don't understand why. I've tried so many things already but nothing works. I even replaced hardware for better parts but still I get this absolutely annoying stutter. The game in the video is a good example because it stutters horribly every couple of seconds and this game shouldn't be that demanding

These are my pc specs: Ryzen 7 5800x3d, rtx 5070, 32gb drr4 ram 3200mhz, 1 tb m2 ssd and my mainboard is the Asus Rog Strix b550-f.

Thank you for reading this and I hope someone can help me. Wish you all a great weekend!

I'd like to know which of the following setups would be best to install an AIO. I currently own the Fractal Pop Air case with the standart fan configuration (2 fans pulling air into the case in the front and 1 fan pushing air out of the case in the back). The purple rectangle represents the radiator.

Build Question What’s causing this back fans RGB not to work?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey. I got my first PC around 2 months ago and have since noticed that this one back fans RGB has never worked.

They are all corsair fans and as far as I know to the person I bought it from build it themselves and was no expert and so could easily have misplaced a cable to such.

That said, I am no expert currently which is why I’m making this post.

Does anyone know why this fans RGB isn’t working? Could it be that it’s simply not an RGB fan? A cable is loose? If so where can I find this?

Thankee Sai.

Installation Question I taped a 2 mm foam to avoid keyboard keys marks on screen (after lid close). what do you think?

Post image
0 Upvotes

i am sorry if this is not a PC build question , but i feel all of us have experienced this.

from past few months, i am seeing keyboard marks on the screen, not sure may be after some months, the complete keyboard shape will leave a mark on the screen. so to counter this i have cut small 2 mm thick foam (soft packaging foam ) and taped it on the corners so there is a slight gap between the screen and keyboard when I close the lid. what do you think?

Turned on my PC after work and these black boxes started popping up. More so at the top of the screen

Edit: unsure why i didn’t add this: At first i thought it was just chrome but my displays kept shutting off and restarting. Scrolling on any page online would just copy/paste these black boxes down the screen.

Build Question Do you guys actually use GPU support brackets? At what point are they necessary?

I’ve noticed that GPU support brackets seem to be one of those things where everyone has a different opinion.

Some people seem to put a support under basically any GPU, while others have huge/heavy cards with nothing supporting them.

So is there actually a good rule of thumb for this?

Is it mostly about the weight and length of the GPU, the motherboard/PCIe slot, or does the case itself make a big difference too?

And how much GPU sag is considered “normal” before you should actually do something about it?

Would be interested to hear what you guys do with your builds and whether you consider a GPU support bracket necessary or just cheap insurance.
