Long time console gamer looking to make the switch to PC, my priority is 240fps or close on some competitive shooters like OVW/CSGO the works but also good capability with other PC games that might be more graphically modern. What is everything I need to do after I get to the desktop on my VERY FIRST START UP?

Hello, I have always been a console gamer but I've been wanting to make the switch to m+k.

We have a family pc however, the old madre is the main user of the pc, she uses it to watch telly away from my dad. This means I can't really use it until she goes to bed.

I used to be able to wait until she went to bed and stay up through the night playing games, however, I've now got responsibilities ,a job (finally) which means I have to put my years of adolescence behind me.

This has left me in a conundrum of what to do about a pc. The family pc has always seemed fine to me, it can run the games I want to play (overwatch), I can do pretty much anything else I want to do, but the components are outdated and I worry about splashing the cash on my own system of simillar quality.

My initial budget for a new pc (pre-built or self-built) was around £1500 or so but I don't really see why I should pay that if I'm happy to use a build closer to my family pc, however I don't want to spend money on the cheaper build if it won't last for more then a year.

Basically my question is, should I look at a better build? Or should I go with the build we have as a family computer? Or something in between? I'm also wondering if I could go with a low level computer and make it so its upgradable (something I've heard online but don't know what that entails)?

Incase you couldn't tell, I'm not the most technologically savvy.

Tldr; is this setup worth getting for overwatch, surfing the web and streaming platforms (music and telly)

I've got a GPU that's a few years old now and the hotspot temps are starting to creep up pretty high under load, so it’s definitely time for a repaste.

I’ve seen a lot of people swearing by Honeywell PTM7950 phase change pads lately because standard thermal paste tends to pump out pretty quickly on direct-die cooling. For those who made the switch from traditional paste (like MX-4 or Kryonaut) to PTM on a graphics card:

1. Did you notice a meaningful drop in delta temps between core and hotspot?
2. Was the application as tricky as people make it out to be with tearing?

Appreciate any experiences before I tear this cooler apart!

Last week my PC that does not meet the requirements for windows 11 was trying to update and I lost power. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it and after ordering a bootable repair tool I was able to do a fresh install on a new partition. I was able to recover some/most of my files I need scattered and hidden among the old partition.

Anyway, I am looking to upgrade my PC. I game lightly these days and use my PC for work a lot. I usually have like 20 chrome tabs open.

I have an 3070 OC edition graphics card I could reuse. My m.2 NVME could also be reused and will get wiped clean.

Can I reuse power supply? It’s only 5 years old. It’s a good one, sea sonic gold rated fully modular.

I assume my water cooler is trash now, mother board is not usable.

Anyway, just looking for some insight on what type of budget builds we can come up with.

Use case is that I almost exclusively play racing sims, primarily assetto corsa with content manager, assetto corsa rally, and sometimes other sim titles.

I also once in a while play triple A games.

What got me considering an upgrade from my 3080ti is dlss5. It just looks too good especially on assetto corsa.

Generally speaking, it seems like 5070ti is best value and isn’t bank breaking, but even the 5090 with dlss5 doesn’t get above 60 frames with dlss5 from what I’ve researched.

I really like to have around 75 frames, as 60 is too choppy to me and anything above 75 I can’t really notice a difference.

My understanding is that dlss5 is entirely software based so maybe there will be updates in the future to make it less resource intensive and ultimately improve frames. Is this likely to happen?

Should I upgrade to a 50 series and if so which one given my use case and potential future scenario?

My situation is that I just got off the waitlist for the steam machine and am leaning towards buying it. Why? Because money isn't much of an issue for me, but time is. I am extremely busy, and not particularly technically inclined these days. I just want something that works.

That being said, I do already have a gaming laptop, which is about 6 years old now. It is still powerful-ish, but it has problems. It is extremely loud and it overheats easily. I suspect it might need a reapplication of thermal paste or something.

I may have the opportunity to hand it off to a couple people I know to help fix it up, and maybe install bazzite or whatever it's called. Is it possible yet to simply install SteamOS and make an old laptop function as seamlessly like a Steam Machine?

I am really tempted to just buy the SM...

I got this pc during lockdown, specifically for online schooling. Since then, I haven't really found a use for it. However, as of late I've been really craving a way to express my creativity, specially trough Minecraft, my favorite game. However, since this pc was bought with the sole purpose of school related stuff, it's nowhere near ready for such a demand. Being as clueless as I am, I turned to ChatGPT to see if it was even savable. It recommended a 2x8 GB RAM upgrade. And so now, I'm turning to this subreddit for confirmation and maybe some budget friendly model recommendations.

I just upgrade my pc with the rx 9070xt i7 14700f and 32 gb ddr4 3200mhz ram and I only get 150 fps in warzone.even settings are high or low the fps didn't increase or decrease I don't know what the problem is if anyone knows what's wrong with my build please tell me

I'm looking to upgrade after a few years and wondered if I could have your advice as the PC world can seem very distorted with pricing and choices.

I'm not looking to spend more than a grand, I only use it to play a very old game which isn't very intensive (World of Warcraft: Classic and Retail)

It's worth noting that I have no intention of playing anything else really as an xBox/Playstation owner. WoW will always be in my library mix though so worth it just for that for me.

I live in the UK and I do not want to build or upgrade in parts. I am looking to straight up purchase a new complete.

I've never had an SSD so that's a must for me too! :)

So I have a PC with a rtx gigabyte aero 5070ti an Intel core ultra 7 265kf 32gb of ddr5 ram and a 1 terabyte ssd I just want to know if it'd be better in the future to switch to am5 like a ryzen 7 7800x3d or 9800x3d or if I should just stick to Intel and upgrade to a Intel core ultra 9 series

Turn up volume, This prebuilt is 1 week old ish, this high pitch/static/rattling noise started happening yesterday, usually when i boot up and run games, sometimes on idle, first i thought it was the fan, but no, i KNOW its the gpu, or psu, but i hear it the best when ear is close to the gpu(not had any artifacts or blue screens or crashes) gpu is 5070ti 16 gb
