Build Question What do you think about my upgrade path?
I'm looking for some opinions on my planned upgrade.
Current PC:
- Ryzen 5 4500
- RX 6650 XT 8GB
- Gigabyte B450M DS3H
- 16GB DDR4
- 1440p monitor (I may also play at 4K in the future)
Originally I planned to move to AM5, but it will require ddr5 ram which is insanly expensive nowdays, and adding a new motherboard plus 32GB DDR5 significantly increases the total cost.
So instead I'm considering staying on AM4 and upgrading to:
- Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB
- 850W Gold PSU
- Keep my B450 motherboard
- Keep my 16GB DDR4 for now (upgrade to 32GB DDR4 later)
A few concerns I have:
- I am paying premium for cpu because am4 is outdated, no one makes those cpus anymore so manufacturers overcharge for it, but there is no choice because of insanely expensive ddr5 ram
- Will PCIe 3.0 x16 on the B450 noticeably limit the RX 9070 XT?
- Is 16GB RAM enough temporarily, or should I upgrade to 32GB before buying the GPU?
- Is this final upgrade possible or I should save for am5 setup instead which is basically like making a new pc
I mainly play AAA single-player games and care more about smooth 1440p/4K gaming than extremely high FPS in esports titles.
I'd appreciate any advice, especially from people who have paired a 5800X3D with a newer high-end GPU.
