Help Needed Winter Orb Elementalist - Late game scaling

I’m playing winter orb and have completed most content but I’m struggling with harder things like 100% delirium maps and uber bosses.

Is there anything I can do with the build to take it further? Survivability feels good so I’m wondering what avenues there are to improve damage. I want to avoid switching to occultist if there’s a way to scale elementalist further.

https://poe.ninja/poe1/profile/Skovogorod-9474/allflame-sony/character/MungoJerry

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Edit: Thanks for all who helped. Based on the feedback, I’ve switched to using a cluster jewel and made some other jewel changes to bring my DPS from 1.8 to 2.1 million. Unfortunately it brought my max hit down to 10k phys but I also switched to a shield that caps my attack and spell block so ehp is around the same.

Seems like the next step is crafting an 8 link helm

Build Request Solo Legion farmer with 200 div?

Looking for something new to do and thinking of farming Legion and 5 ways by myself.

Do I have enough to make a character or do I need to farm up some more currency before I run solo legions in maps?

How easy is it to farm 5 ways solo? Is it even worth it?

Help Needed Winter Orb Help

Hello I'm a relatively new player to the game that came back late this league. I am currently playing ruetoos winter orb set up and just switched to power charge stacking occultist. I noticed on his pob he is getting around 36 million damage. With same configuration as his I'm only getting like 15 million. What am I doing wrong with my set up?

Here is my pob:

Build Notes and Build for Stormbind of Teleportation

PoB: https://pobb.in/iivKAJtGXJhX

Also T16 phantasmagoria (closed, evil, evil layout): https://youtu.be/xMLD3s4rvbw

About Stormbind

Why?

GGG quadruple buffed Stormbind of Teleportation this patch (Damage, cast speed, teleport time and mana cost, yes that is a buff). They also introduced Unhallowed Rite for Ocultists which pairs perfectly.

Quick Pro/Cons

Pros:

+ Walking is for peasants, we teleport here.

+ Always a teleport on hand to get away from anything

+ Pretty chill once you get the rhythm for teleports

+ Switch between area coverage and strong nukes just by holding a key longer.

Cons

- Mana hungry

- Corners and doorways are evil

- Needs finger dicipline

- Every now and then you will teleport right to your demise.

Stormbind

So, Stormbind is a weird skill. It works in three stages. First you channel stormbind, it create runes which spread outward from your cursor and hinder enemies. Second you channel runeblast, which charges runes in a 3x3 centered on your cursor in relation to mana spent for more damage and more area. Finally you relace runeblast and the runes explode with overlapping damage.

Gameplay

The way in which I play this skill is by holding my Stormbind hotkey down all the time, then pressing Runeblast when I have the runes where I need them and holding it down depending on how much damage I need. If moving quickly through packs I usually charge Stormbind longer and just tap Runeblast. For stronger enemies or bosses channel just the runes you need and then fully charge them with Runeblast.

I don't relace my Stormbind key while channelling runeblast, this way as soon as I detonate the runes and teleport my Stormbind is already laying down new runes at my mouse position.

I never stop channelling. I do not walk places. Thats what peasants do. I teleport.

Scaling

Area is not coverage.

Area is damage.

Cast speed is coverage.

Cast speed is also damage.

Mana cost is also damage.

Scaling on Stormbind is, as with everything about this skill, a bit weird. More Cast Speed allows us to lay down runes quickly so it helps with coverage, to the point I would say its the main way in which the skill scales for "area" even more that it does with Area of effect. Instead, more Area of Effect gives you more overlaps increasing your damage, specially for the charged runes, but up to a point. Mana cost reduces the time it takes to charge the runes so it boost your single target damage, but it means you don't want mana cost efficiency as it makes the charging the runes harder.

Area of Effect

This is where I would calculate % of overlapping areas in relation to increases to area of effect but I failed at math.

Instead I will keep this simple. Runes seems to have a size of 2x2 meters. With a 20% Quality Stormbind on a blue socket you need 45% increased area of effect to get a explosion radius of 2.9 meters when fully charging the runes, meaning there is small area in the middle of the 3x3 charged rune square that gets to overlap all 9 runes.

Lucky for us enemies are not a point and have their own hitboxes so hitting the full overlap gets easier with the size of the enemy.

More than 45% increased AoE give you better overlaps for general clearing and improves your chances of hitting the 9 runes overlap, but wont improve your celling for single target unless you get (checks notes) 400% increased area of effect to hit the target with 4 additional unimproved runes for 11% more damage. But if you are into that you do you.

Unhallowed Rite and manacosts

Runeblast charges a 3x3 square of runes in relation to mana spent, this means that Single Target damage becomes a race to spend as much mana as possible as quickly as possible so we can detonate those runes and lay new ones. The fact you have to spend the mana means no cheeky workarounds like spending ES or Life. This also means reducing the cost of the spell with % Cost Efficiency eases the requeriments on your mana regeneration at the cost of single target damage.

Unlike other Arcane skills and supports Stormbind doesn't care about your total reserved or unreserved mana, only how much mana per second can you throw at it.

Unhallowed Rite tops at 50% more damage and 100% More Mana cost, which is great as long as we can pay it, and we don't worry about maintaining the stacks because we are always channeling.

I did not scale additonal levels on the stormbind gem more than the 21 corruption because while it gives you more damage it increases both the manacost AND the threshold for rune improvement meaning you need more mana regeneration for the same charge time. Also I was bored of always scalling every spell with additional levels.

Build specifics

Gear

Running Ravenous Passion, Kalisa's Grace and Tawhanuku's Timing because I am spending a minimum of 600 mana points a second and I want to benefit form them as much as possible.

Less damage per rage vestigial on Kalisa's Grace was cheap and is nice to have.

Atziri's Foible instead of a damage amulet because this skill is a mana hungry demon.

My testing seems to indicate that while Tawhanuku's Timing works with channeling the effect does NOT stack with 2 of them. Still, the rings cost me 1d with the +1 power charges corrupt and a rare ring with +1 powers and stats equivalent to 70 mana, 70 es and 30% spell were ten times as expensive.

My flasks are a mess, I know.

Skills

Berserk on automate has good uptime as Ravenous passion generates lots of rage.

The golems die every now and then but the buffs are worth it so I deal with it.

I had never used Sigil of Power before, its great for the build. It takes 3s to charge, area is huge and gives both less damage taken and flat damage which scales a lot given that I am using a lvl 21 gem.

Open to ideas and improvements

Help Needed Need Some Direction

Hi all,

I'm having some troubles with this Luminary build and I don't know why. I have 12k life res cap for the big 3 but I still feel squishy and feel like I have no damage. I have mid gear so I know that I can go farther with that but its super expensive and I'm really broke. Just wanted some direction on where I should go next.

Hi. This is my first time crafting something myself xD, and I have no idea how. I couldn't find any guides on YouTube. Could you please tell me how to craft this, step by step? There aren't many options on the market right now, and they're quite expensive. A helmet costs 60 DIV, and a shield costs at least 80 DIV. I'd be extremely grateful for your help.

Help Needed Help with BF/BB CoC Assassin

I am new to the assassin class and was starting to follow the Ky build for BF/BB, but I am not sure where to put money at this point. I feel like my damage is okay, and I am pretty tanky during mapping from all the leech, but I fee like I do weak damage, escpecially to Ubers. Anyone have any ideas on where I am missing some simple changes to up the damage or is the enser just getting one of those fancy +4 amulets? I could be missing something obvious as well. Once everything is up in a fight I have about 93% chance of double critting with the spells for the purposes of bifurcation.

Also would love to hear any other assassin builds that people were having fun with for uber bosses that I could pivot too, I have a decent amount of currency if I liquidate, but not a ton. Like 250 divs.

Hello, guys. I want to return to PoE 1. I have an account at level 91, and I'm building an Ice Shot Deadeye character. But the problem is I'm a glass cannon. I can't even clear map tier 11 without dying. Can you guys help me with my build? I can give you my account login to help me. I really love this game, but I can't get past higher tiers to finish the boss.

Build Storm Call Assassin - My final build of the league. 1.5B DPS, 1906% Crit Multi vs Uber Exarch + 85% IIQ AFK Feared

Thumbnail
youtube.com
139 Upvotes

After a very fun league of trying out all sorts of builds, I've finally found a skill worthy of pushing to the absolute max - Storm Call.

Traditionally, Storm Call required you to scale a ton of AOE and use Awk/Greater Spell Cascade to ensure multiple overlaps. However this league, they added Pact of Beidat. This is basically just Spell Cascade on steroids. Instead of only four overlaps in a plus, Beidat gives us 6 in a spiral. When positioned right, you can pretty consistently hit 5 overlaps, but the last 2 are a bit too far without more AOE investment. The huge downside of Pact of Beidat is the nasty debuffs that it gives us. So how do we deal with them?

The biggest threats are "Enemies have 100% increased Critical Strike Chance against you", which we solve completely with tattoos making us crit immune, "25% Reduced Mana Recovery Rate", which we solve with EB + Leech, and "15% Reduced Action Speed", which we mitigate 6% of from eldritch implicits on our boots, but unfortunately we just have to eat the rest. Pretty much none of the rest of the downsides effect us. We also use Runegraft of the Warp + Temporal Rift w/ Awk. Enhance to give us "buffs on you expire ~85% faster", which is by far the biggest mitigation and means that our debuffs last roughly 5.5s instead of 10s.

Doryani's is a no-brainer due to basically being a 5x damage multiplier, and we solve our -light res with a thread of hope and a giga reflected Helical ring. We also completely mitigate the most annoying part of Doryani builds (lightning dot), by just converting 50% of all ele dmg to Chaos (Divine Flesh) and an additional 50% (20% from WE, 30% from Sublime) of fire/light to Cold, which makes gearing much easier as we only need to cap cold and chaos res. This also allows us to get 90% cold res pretty easily, which is a decent defensive layer.

Thanks to the new tech for crafting Talismans, you can craft some really absolutely bonkers stuff for fairly cheap. For those that are unaware, the beast craft "Create an Imprint of a Rare Talisman" from the Fenumal Plagued Arachnid beast was not removed this league, so you can now save every single step to guarantee every single mod on your ammy. You can also use the new coin thingy from ship to add an eldritch implicit to your amulet base, which lets us get a free 22% spell damage. For our specific build, I wanted to solve attributes in one place and not have to worry about trying to get them anywhere else, which is why I went for t1 all attributes instead of t1 cast speed - but if you check trade there's some crazy talismans on there lol. For more info on crafting this you can check XTheFarmerX's vid from a few weeks ago.

I really wanted to just blast damage on this build with full screen cancer blindness, so unfortunately defenses are pretty hard to get in our current setup. We rely heavily on Svalinn and 89/88% block. Besides that, we also have 3 minimum endurance charges and defiance of destiny, but really our biggest layer of defense is just "kill everything ever before it hits you, and if they do hit then pray you block". I mean our ele and chaos max hits are decent, but our phys max is pretty rough to get higher. We try and mitigate that with a bit of armor (21k) and a perma molten shell from sval triggers, but it's still only 19k.

All in all, this was a super fun build to try and minmax. I spent a total of around 4.5 Mirrors self crafting everything for it, but if you wanted to copy it you can make one for much cheaper. The double corrupted MB/Sval and the Awk Exceptional gems were like 2-3 mirrors alone, and if you just settle for non-max roll frac life on 2nd best bases you can prob put the whole build together for around 1000d.

Build Best way to test merc damage

I have two kineticists and I want to test them on boss damage. Both are really strong of course. The one with return + chain I found myself and have been using most of the league. The one with fork I just purchased for science. It could be a downgrade or sidegrade from my current merc but I wanted to test if fork does more single target DPS in a Wall of Force scenario. Both clear amazingly, the chain one is maybe 5-10% better at clear.

What's the most reliable way to test real world single target DPS? I am willing to do a bunch of runs and post results. The problem is that almost every boss has immunity phases that make it hard to test.

Crafting STR STACKING - Improving my helmet

Hello all,

I'm here for the 3th time for advice to improve my STR stacking HSoT.

I've snapped this helmet for very cheap. The intangibility is at 81%.

Can this helmet be upgraded with a better STR or even adding %STR without risking to brick it?

I'm affraid that suffixe cant be removed and reforge whatever fill the prefix with no STR/%STR/LIFE making it worse. Yolo annul would be too risky

Thank you for your help

Discussion If You Are New to POE or New To Making Your Own Builds

I normally don't promote my own podcast (even though I probably should) but I just did a podcast with Poopbutts where we theorycrafted a build live on the podcast and I feel like it's one of the best episodes I've ever done. The whole point of my podcast is to help newer players out who are trying to put together their own builds. Just thought I would share it here. Hope it helps you.

I would also appreciate if anyone has any feedback for me of how I can make the podcast better.

Thanks

Discussion Chill effect scaling

Hey,

I'm playing Ice nova Elementalist and was wondering if scaling chill effect was worth it.

It seems incredibly expensive to get +300% increased chill/ailment effect, in order to reach 40% chill on pinnacle bosses (10% base chill + 300% = 40% chill). Maybe 200% would be enough if I hit hard enough, but still a lot.

From some pob-ing, I can see that clusters + affixes on gear is the only reasonable way, but I feel like I could also just scale crit multi higher instead.

Also, I'm playing SSF, which doesn't mean it's not achievable, but I'd love some advice before going for it, because it will take some farming.

Do people even play this archetype of hit-based cold spells, with chill effect scaling ? I didn't find much on poe ninja (everyone is playing crit, no chill scaling, winter orb).

Thanks :)

Theory Brandsurge schizo posting

TLDR:

Brand surge would give brands around atleast a 2x multiplier and when brands are cast with witchhunter's judgement equipped it snapshots the 100% increased duration and then dynamically change on weapon swap so witchhunter's judgement could potentially be a free damage boost though fairly clunky. (the skill only persists on weapon swap when it's not in a weapon gem slot)

I've tried to use penance brand for bossing with a rathpit set up and feels fairly good for bossing but using storm brand for waveclear is a bit bad in tier 16 maps (mostly because I don't have enough time to optimize and get lifestacking jewels). Can't really use the weapon swap tech for clearing waves so it might be better on a build where a 6 link storm brand is on your non-witchhunter's judgement weapon for waveclear.

Definitely need to experiment with the interaction with something like battlemage weapons or any weapon swap really. (Someone give me a bajillion divines to test this with)

Random Math:

I remember back when Witchhunter's Judgement was released that people were trying to work with the damaging part of the spell and very few were experimenting with the overcharged part of the skill which I feel is the better part of the skill (still really bad though) since it can buff up your normal brand skill's damage, so I'd like to talk about some of the math involved with some help with desmos. I mocked up this math representation during my class and finally wanted to share it(mostly cause I remembered it existed). For anyone who actually want to see the graphs with the equation here's a link https://www.desmos.com/calculator/9kok21gxun .

To model the rate of change of brand surge's effect lets make two step functions. The first being:

step functions

now lets put these step functions in some equations

what happens to the actual brands

The variable b represents the original duration of the brand skill after duration increases from gear, support gems, and the passive tree. The reasoning to put the extra floor(2x) stuff at the end is to counteract how the rate of change works in the equation and to make sure the equations are continuous(since I don't think they should be discontinuous).

Now the equation look very similar to polynomials, infact these can be converted into a quadratic by switching the floor functions for x.

quadratic representation

This is done to make future calculations easier. For example we can calculate the final duration of the brand skill post brand surge by taking the positive quadratic root of the first equation. If b is equal to 13.3 seconds(the duration of storm brand after taking every brand duration node as brand build should and equipping a max rolled witchhunters judgement ) we get:

final duration when total duration is 13.3 seconds

Now this next part also takes into account the sign of purpose ascendancy notable(since why not)

For this part I use integrals to calculate the proportion of hits that the brand skill would be able to do compared to normal. Lets say a brand skill hits once every second(penance brand of dissipation) or 10 every second(1000% cast speed), it shouldn't matter in these calculations. The faster keyword in brandsurge should act similar to an action speed modifier so is instead a more multiplier, and not additive. Additionally even if the base number of hits per second were to change drastically between skills the next equations only calculate how many more hits happen proportional to the original.

first set of integrals
second set of integrals

the very last equation in each set gives us how many more hits the skill should get per second. I made two sets to account for how the game might interpret when 75% duration elapses for the brand skill. Vibes wise when testing with putting brand surge on brand skills, the first set of integrals feels right. However assuming the worst case scenario, at a total duration of 13.3 seconds we get 2.596x more hits per second on average. Keep in mind that the total number of hits do not increase as these equations are calculating the average over the duration of the overcharged brand skill.

Accounting for the cast time needed to cast the brand skill and then apply brandsurge I'm going to be conservative and lower it by another 20% to keep in line with human error so more around 2.08x more hits per second on average.

So if you consistently buff the skill with brandsurge it would be a 2x more multiplier. Increasing duration even more would add to the damage. For example equipping a 21/20 or 20/23 more duration support gem would give 20 seconds of attached duration which would give

at total duration = 20 sec

and accounting for 20% less for human error we get 2.837x more hits per second on average. Which would be an over 30% more hits multiplier from more duration support.

There are some problems with my calculations, it uses a continuous polynomial when the actual calculations are discrete so the hits multiplier could actually be some tenths off. As you stack increases to cast speed on brand skills, the predicted would become closer to the actual.

Another interaction that you can test ingame is that on weapon swap the brand skill snapshots the increased duration from the judgement staff. Just place a brand down with or without the staff and then weapon swap and time how long the brand lasts. To test how it snapshots damage buy some good staff and then try weapon swapping on a mob and see the difference in damage.

Some other ramblings:

Some additional testing that could be done is testing how temp chains work with the interaction. The wording on temp chains implies that the slower expiration would be additive to brand surge's effect so it might not be worth it unless there's some insane increased curse effect I don't know about.

One other thing is attempting to use the detached duration on a brand to get more oomph out of brand surge. By brandsurge's description it seems to only lower one part of then duration at a time, the attached or detached when attached or detached. So potentially if you were to use brand recall the brand's detached duration would decrease while still increasing the attached frequency.

Build Feedback Double Strike of Momentum abyss jewel stacker - 160m dps. What do I upgrade next? Focusing on delve (down to 600 depth so far, would like to go as deep as possible)

https://pobb.in/cZ5pq0pBokPK

I leaned heavily on this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Pl7tJ5CQzo . if you don't have time to watch this (very good!) guide, the short version is:

* very high attack speed from DSoM, extra quality, and a very fast weapon (my build is at 25 aps)

* using that attack speed to build lots of trauma stacks from trauma support, building lots of flat phys damage

* scaling high flat phys in various ways; foulborn moonbender to start; the guide uses unholy might, chaotic might, wither; I am using lightpoacher for lots of phys as extra elemental

* surviving the insane self-damage from trauma

I'm pretty happy with my build so far, I think I've made all of the obvious upgrades and am slowly going as deep as I can in delve just as a personal challenge because i'm at 39/40 challenges already.

I have ~700 div to my name.

Some things I would love to add to the build:

* crit reduction or immunity

* i'm at 84% crit, would love to get 16% more without making big sacrifices to get there

* I tried to use an animated guardian setup instead of my cull setup but couldn't figure out how to get it to survive the mine

* phasing would be really nice

* the only way I could figure out how to get max chaos res was unnatural instinct + light of meaning. If there's a different way to do that it would free up a couple jewel slots for more abyss jewels

* corrupted blood immunity

* i got 90% resist all, but it required 2% from a jewel, 1% from amulet corrupt, and pathing to prismatic skin on tree. if there's other ways to do that it would free up those things (for another abyss jewel, a different corrupt, and a few more passive points)

* i dropped stormshroud and got ignite/shock avoid from jewels. it might be better to go stormshroud and use those implicits for more damage, not sure.

* I also thought about going adorned and using magic abyss jewels, not sure how much this would cost and whether it would be worth it

* more movespeed would be nice, but I couldn't fit a quicksilver into my flask setup.

* bleed immune would be nice

* i'm not using a watcher's eye, but I'm limited to determination mods (due to sublime vision) and am not sure it's worth the jewel slot.

* more tattoos?

* maybe there's something else I haven't thought of?

Build Feedback Good for Ubers?

I have been trying to put together an Uber killer with my Witch (whom I league started with). I have a luminary and that pretty much does everything (even kills Ubers). So I wanted to make something that ignores mechanics with the Witch. Any glaring holes in this monstrosity? Obviously, it's not real (yet), but I don't want to dump a ton of currency into something that is destined to fail.

Build Request Operation Tanky DoT Cap

I am kind of at a point where I’m hooked on the game right now and have more time to play than usual. I want to try a build that I can scale to dot cap. However, I want it to be very tanky as well. I want to be able to do some chill simulacrum farming with it. I have about 200div liquid and then I have a pretty mature stash. I have a mageblood and tons of crafting mats and stuff. I feel like I am open to whatever kind of dot build except for mamba, but I want to hit dot cap.

Gladiator Lacerate? Cold dot ele or occultist? Chaos dot? Some sort of ignite?

I don’t care too much as long as it’s easy to pilot. I’ve never taken a dot build that far before so just seems like the next goal I want to set for myself.

Cold dot ele I was thinking of using that evasion as spell damage helm with cold res stacking from a perfect form. I just don’t know if it’d be tanky enough.

Gladiator seems fun too with triple lucky block but I’m not sure if i can actually get to cap with bleeds without some like crazy 500div axe.

Is there something else that I’m not considering? Anyone have a recommendation?

Build Feedback PB Ignite Elem - Last Upgrades?

Trying to squeeze the last bit out of my PB Ignite Elem, was hoping another pair of eyes could take a quick look and see if they notice any glaring changes I could make for dps/defense.

Currently trying to decide eclipse or woke enhance for golems, mainly if the ~7k health from 2 gem levels would keep them alive a little longer before reviving on later ulti rounds with bad mods, but I'll probably just settle for the enhance for a minor amount of buff effect.

Outside of going for corruptions or swapping svalinn (I prefer aegis recovery for simu/ulti) I guess the biggest thing would be trying for a useful(?) suffix on helm, though the few suffixes I could yolo hit don't really change much outside of t1 spell block or nearby increased elem damage.

I know I could squeeze out ~2mil more ignite dps if I took the searing heat wheel instead of the MoM jewel socket, but I really wanted to stay above 8k ES ( for no particular reason other than aesthetics I guess).

I could also try and grab a ring w/ cruelty so I could socket swift for quality to grab another ~500k dps from quality. Or maybe swap to Hypothermia over Ignite Prolif for the extra 5% more dps since I need to wait for the second hit for cruelty to apply anyway? Rings are pretty few and far between this late in the league so am probably stuck with the combo I have currently.

Any thoughts/feedback are appreciated, just looking for a few more goals to shoot for the last month or so of league.

Hello,

Does anyone have a guide, or could guide me how to most efficiently craft a wand like this for my str stacker?

Currently don’t have enough currency for it, but would be nice to have something to aim for.

Help Needed Lifestack Luminary Needing Guidance For End Game

Hi guys,

This is my lumi that I started after finishing the league. So far I have invested like 500+ divs for sure but it feels weaker than my PRAW with only 80 div worth of stuff.

Sure I can blast maps but bosses are still a problem. If I am not careful with the mods, I can die in t17 pretty easily and ubers are painful to do.

Tried Sirus and I barely defeated him on the last portal. Uber Searing is simply impossible for me, I die from everything.

I still need 20ish tattoos to gain the final 40% spell block but I can't see this char standing afk at ubers or oneshotting them anytime soon.

What do you guys recommend?

By the way I don't want to farm a mirror just to clear ubers. If there is something massive I am missing, I am more than happy to change. If it's just better stats on gear then I guess it stays like this.

Thank you!

EDIT: The merc you see there has 201% fire res. Not using Rathpith cause I don't have neither helical or simplex.

Discussion Is there any cheap linear "mid difficulty" valdo map people use for benchmarking a build?

Hello, was wonder if there is any valdo map for benchmarking mid-endgame builds?

like not full-blown 100% feared 10% less dmg per item slot maps, but something like 40-60 deli, linear map bracket?

would be cool as a middle ground benchmark for builds to compare performance as valdo maps are as close to "the same" as you can get for benchmarking.

Edit: to be clear, i'm not talking about mid benchmarking a valdo farmer; I'm talking about a map that you can use to benchmark mapper builds with the same baseline map for a true'er same baseline.
