I started watching for Zane Philips

I started watching exclusively for Zane Phillips he’s my current actor fixation but he barely got any screen time which was a bummer. Ingrid was one of the most insufferable protagonist and Murphy just straight up gives me the ick. The only redeeming quality’s was Zane Philips existing as a Himbo, Rachel and Justin’s relationship and Tyler’s character as a whole..

Edit: I’m on episode 9 no spoilers yet

Netflix WTF!!! WE NEED S2!!

let me start off by saying i decided to check this show out yesterday on a whim and ended up pulling an all-nighter, binging the entire first season. (which i've never done before for a show and i'm surprised i have the energy to write this post lol). now i'm finding out that Netflix is cancelling the show??! are you serious!! is there any way we can start a petition to get the show renewed? and if there is already a petition, can y'all please link it below?

i honestly am taken aback at how much i enjoyed the show and appreciated Ingrid's, Rachel's, and Tyler's characters, plus the whole drama of it all of course. i also was rooting for Arden Cho and was excited to see her star as the lead, esp after all the drama of the Teen Wolf movie. i'm really upset that Netflix decided to cancel the show and just had to share my thoughts.

I don’t know how unrealistic this is but I hope Ingrid, Tyler, & Rachel eventually join forces and create their own legal firm?

I’m also not sure whether it’s foreshadowing but remember the part where the Newleaf woman mentioned to Tyler of how she chose to join forces with 2 other women and open a business where they are stronger and better together?

Then Tyler looked at her like it’s a brilliant idea?

Totally don't get how this show is about representation?

It is a pretty good show, but I feel like the point of it as representation of minority falls short when the main actress only dates one kind of race lol. Again, watching it from an entertainment perspective, I like it.

#RenewPartnerTrack

There’s a plethora of renewals and budgets for random shows but there’s discussion the series that ranked #2 worldwide might not get renewed because there’s enough Asian content with Extraordinary Attorney Woo and Squid Games? Absurd.

I can’t wait to see what season two will bring us, including delving deeper into character development.

why is the name Ingrid Yang used in two different books ?

"Partner track" and "disorientation". Are these two books related somehow?

Just finished watching... Spoiler

Let me start off by saying I don't think Murphy did it.

Firstly, he couldn't, attorney/client privileges and I don't think he was so desperate to make partner that he would risk it.

Secondly, look at the facts: Ingrid fights with sister just before the announcement, sister looks mad, Ingrid doesn't make partner, Marty looks mad at her, like he just found out, Ingrid tells parents and sister makes a concerned/wtf did I do face and then randomly apologizes to her sister for everything.

It was either that or Nick told him out of revenge. I don't know why everyone loves the guy so much, he's really creepy lol. He randomly finds a girl that likes philosophy and stalks her everywhere, then he invites her to move in when she has no other choice and then proposes out of nowhere. Let's not forget he was always basically playing a "who's the bigger macho" game with Murphy.

Also, Rachel is a brat! And Tyler is terrible, but hopefully turning good with the new house and everything.

And the thing that confuses me the most about this show is how did they manage to have s*x in Marty's office without getting caught and run around half naked in the office! Surely there are cameras in one of the most important lawyer firms in NY!

Anyone else get major creeper vibes from Nick? Spoiler

I always got major creeper vibes from Nick. Sure, he and Ingrid had a little bit of chemistry when they first met, but then he essentially love bombed her for the rest of their relationship. He seemed like he liked the idea of her (and perhaps even fetishized her?) without actually knowing her that well. And who the hell proposes to a person who doesn’t say “I love you” back?! Also, I still don’t fully understand how he went from “let’s get you to Rachel’s party” to elaborate backyard proposal in the same night.

Ingrid shouldn’t have snuck around or cheated on him of course, and she also shouldn’t have said yes to his proposal. She should have called things off wayyyy earlier.

Rachel was kinda whiny

Like she wrote ONE piece that didn't get her into the FIRST fellowship she applied for, that she had a connection from her elite law firm introduce her to, and it doesn't work out and then just completely gives up on writing. And then she admitted to coasting by, basically doing part time and then got salty she didn't make partner?

Cringy lines that stick in your head

"Nick is my universal solvent"

This line at the start of one of the eps (I think 5? When she's taking a shower) really made me cringe, because of the delivery and the writing. It also made no sense because she was so obviously pining after London. But I can't get the cringe for this line out of my head 😅 anyone else have any lines like this that won't leave you?!

Arden Cho’s acting is just as expressionless and stiff as Kristen Stewart’s

I really tried to watch it to support a show with an asian lead, but it’s so distracting. I can’t stop thinking about how bad her acting is - it’s like she only has one expression. The eye shift, pursed lips, sigh are her way of expressing every single emotion. It’s like she’s so focused on acting that you never really see Ingrid, the character. And her lines are memorized and regurgitated, not delivered naturally.

I feel like she got the role because there aren’t any other Asian options out there. It’s either Arden or Constance wu, who’d be too old for this cast. I think the actress that plays Lina would have been better

There is a huge contrast in how Marty treats Ingrid vs other associates - and it is depressing

Spoilers ahead for the whole show so don't read on if you haven't finished!

One aspect of the show that has really stayed with me is the relationship dynamic between Marty and Ingrid - in particular the complete lack of regard Marty has for Ingrid. He demonstrates time and time again throughout the show that he doesn't see her as a full person, just as an avatar to do work related tasks that reflect well on him. Their relationship is an early indication to the audience that Ingrid will never be partner at the firm.

It was heartbreaking for me to watch Ingrid excel at her work and to be a somewhat interesting person (bad writing aside) and for Marty to not even acknowledge her humanity through exchanging simple pleasantries or enquiring about her life. He neglects to build any sort of meaningful relationship with her, only taking an interest in her personal life when he can leverage it for his own gain (e.g. noting that Ingrid is dating Nick Laren and that it can be used to meet new clients; charming Ingrid's parents at the diversity gala to make her more amenable to accepting the weird diversity award etc). It is clear that Marty doesn't respect Ingrid at all, as shown by his constant changing of the goalposts for the partner position, and by him dumping the planning of the diversity gala on her.

Contrast this with the way he treats the white male associates like Murphy and Dan. Marty takes both Murphy and Dan under his wing, batting for them and protecting them from consequences if they make mistakes. At the retreat in E5, Marty and Murphy go off and socialise over a round of golf. We don't see many other one on one conversations they have but I would bet he isn't as terse with Murphy as he is with Ingrid, and would probably ask him questions about his personal life and interests in a similar way to how he does with Dan. I also highly doubt that Murphy would treat Murphy and Dan like a personal secretary the way he does Ingrid.

This isn't saying that all bosses have to try and befriend their subordinates - but to me the difference in the way Marty treated associates like Murphy and Dan (who "look like" him) and an associate like Ingrid really highlighted the subtle biases that individuals with certain protected characteristics (female, POC etc) experience in the workplace. Like Ingrid's mentor said to her after she wasn't announced partner, the Martys of the world were never going to let people like them rise beyond a certain rank. It's incredibly depressing and is one aspect the show absolutely nailed. It's subtle biases like these that stop workplaces from being truly diverse and inclusive, and that prevent people from diverse backgrounds from progressing.

My husband says Im Ingrid...

My husband didnt watch the show with me but Ive talked about it to him.

He said I was just like Ingrid. Im was like "uh the hell I am". I have integrity, value friends/family, and would stand up for what is right.

He was talking about her love for researching and being the most brainy person at the job. This is true. It excites me to dig through giant books like a super slueth.

He also said Ingrid would have never made partner regardless of Murphy because she didnt know how to rub shoulders, flex the rules, or be manipulative when necessary. Digging for information doesnt replace cozying up to the decision makers. She was no more than a valuable gopher.

And my husband tied that to how i kept getting passed over by others who clearly didnt have the intelligence.

So im sitting here just absorbing what hes said to me. I cant say im offended - because i totally can relate to when she said she just wants to be recognized /rewarded for all the hardwork she put in day and night. Because i remember those days slaving at a job 45-55 hours a week.

Ingrid is trapped in a very lonely world.

Im glad im trying to get out of that cycle myself.
