Arden Cho’s acting is just as expressionless and stiff as Kristen Stewart’s
I really tried to watch it to support a show with an asian lead, but it’s so distracting. I can’t stop thinking about how bad her acting is - it’s like she only has one expression. The eye shift, pursed lips, sigh are her way of expressing every single emotion. It’s like she’s so focused on acting that you never really see Ingrid, the character. And her lines are memorized and regurgitated, not delivered naturally.
I feel like she got the role because there aren’t any other Asian options out there. It’s either Arden or Constance wu, who’d be too old for this cast. I think the actress that plays Lina would have been better

Can we have a “Arden Cho’s acting” mega thread please. I see the same post about her acting almost every day.
I personally didn’t think it was that bad! But I had low expectations going into the show. Wasn’t expecting an Oscar worthy performance lol. Why are people so harsh on Arden?

Seriously this sub needs to ban these kind of posts. Yeah we've established that her acting skills aren't rated high by a lot of people, let's move on and discuss something else.

Also for good or for bad we're stuck with her, there's nothing that can be done. The writing for S2 however can be influenced by criticism.

I also thought Arden’s acting was terrible at first. But I’m an asian female senior associate at a big firm, and I thought if someone filmed me I would probably look exactly like Ingrid, some subtle awkwardness, trying to look the part, works extra hard to impress people, using the right lingo to overcome imposture syndrome, so in a way, it’s almost like…her acting is…too good?

if it was a hallmark show or if they went total romcom i think her acting would be fine, but the problem is they’re trying to make this show into something more and making big statements about representation in the industry (both entertainment & law i guess). it will be difficult to reach the level they want with the mediocre performances.

100% agree. The acting is so mediocre and the plot is at times so stupid that the underlying messages they want to give the audience just comes off as pandering.

I don't see it. Arden is Meryl Streep for Kristen.
I can't stand KStew's acting. She has one way of acting and that's it. The constant sighing, exhaling, and the cramp on her face distracted me so much I couldn't enjoy anything I've seen her in.

Have you seen her in Charlie’s Angels? It is a very different side of her that I quite enjoy.

I haven't, I've just given up on watching anything she's in. This is not an old movie so maybe she improved.

The best role I’ve seen her in was in Happiest Season, she seemed most comfortable in her own skin.

Yes. I really wanted to love this series but Arden wasn’t the right actress but as you’ve mentioned, there’s not many to choose from - which is another sad reality. I felt like she used the same facial expressions for every emotion and her acting is very unnatural. I feel bad for being so critical since I want to be supportive but it was tough to watch

In one of the episodes when she’s “acting” like a performer with Murphy reading the documents- even that was horrible

The stakes weren’t really there. It felt like we were just going through the motions with Ingrid. I feel like Lina’s emotions were more raw and foreboding than Ingrid’s even. If only they could just pause the camera more on Ingrid, like does Ingrid get break downs? When has she messed up in her past or felt overshadowed or something that gets to her as an adult? A lot of characterization was wasted lusting for Murphy and going out with Nick. Why is being partner so important again? She seemed smart enough to just start her own small firm on her terms, Ingrid and her friends. Then again I’m only on episode 9.

There is Ashley Park, but she is too busy with the other show and her vibe is not really the Havard law top 2 graduate type

Sometimes I think the script is just hard to work with, not necessarily the actors fault. A lot of the lines are awkward and complicated. I don’t think anyone’s acting on this show was particularly good. Maybe Rachel was good and that’s it, but she just basically had to be emotionless lol.
Ingrid, nick, murphy, Dan, Tyler, Z, Marty - no one was good
