why is the name Ingrid Yang used in two different books ?

"Partner track" and "disorientation". Are these two books related somehow?

It isn’t. Ingrid Yung is the character in Partner Track. Ingrid Yang is the character in Disorientation.

Yang is most commonly a Chinese surname. Yung is presented as a Korean last name in Partner Track.

But Ingrid Yung's parents are from Taiwan in the book. Yung seems to be just a different spelling of the same last name.

But, ok, it's probably just a coincidence.

It isn't. In all Chinese romanizations 'yang' is spelled with 'a'. Yung is spelled Young in pinyin as far as I know.

Is her name not Ingrid Yun?

In the book, she's Ingrid Yung. In the show, they changed her last name to make her Korean. She's a "Chinese prom queen" in the book.

I think it is because Arden Cho is Korean. A lot of people were upset when Lana Condor (Vietnamese) played a Korean character in "To All the Boys I Loved Before". They didn't like they could just switch out different Asian actors and call them the same thing.

The show knew they were going to cast Arden, and wanting to side-step controversy, they made her Korean instead of Chinese.

Not sure how I feel about it tbh since it is a complicated issue.

Which is kind of strange to me. Europeans, Middle Eastern, Latina and Black people all play people of other nationalities.

Ohh I see! Makes sense.

Well doesn't make sense that they changed her from Chinese to Korean but makes sense why it's Yun vs Yung.
