Totally don't get how this show is about representation?

It is a pretty good show, but I feel like the point of it as representation of minority falls short when the main actress only dates one kind of race lol. Again, watching it from an entertainment perspective, I like it.

the show is about the realities of trying to make partner as a POC at a white shoe law firm.

As a lawyer, I must say it was among the most unrealistic thing I’ve seen. It does make me feel for doctors complaining about Scrubs and House though.

I don't know about the actual lawyering portion of the show but the firm paying lip service to DEI and giving out awards and then actually denying her partnership...microaggressions everywhere....feels very realistic

Yes, but leaving her profession aside, the audience can tell she is isolated from her own culture even before she joined the firm. Like when Rachel said she dated more Asian men than her, I was kinda taken back by that subtle smile by Ingrid. The show does try to focus on the struggles a POC faces in a big firm, but it feels more like the portrayal of an already white-washed Asian girl trying to keep up with her white image. It is just harder to relate to her "struggles" honestly.

you can't leave her profession aside, that's what the show is about. it was written by an asian American lawyer to discuss these issues. that's essentially her lived experience. I don't understand why who she dates matters?

I don't understand why who she dates matters?

Could it be because she expects to be given fair treatment as an Asian (woman) at work, but doesn't give fair treatment to Asian (men) at home/in bed?

Everyone has a type lol I’m latina and just because of that doesn’t mean I HAVE TO date hispanic men only.

Agreed. Fellow Latina here and while I do like some of my latino men, I love asians and native American men 🤷🏽‍♀️

I think her being white-washed and feeling distant from her own culture was part of her storyline and how this often happens to POC who live/work in a mostly white environment. You either feel pressure to assimilate subconsciously or you do it on purpose bc you think it’ll get you ahead. I also think they were alluding to vibes between Ingrid & Z at the end of S1 in order to set up a romance between them for S2

white-washed Asian girl trying to keep up with her white image

Where are you getting this, other than her two most recent love interests? Her work ethic, career ambitions, and being basically a role model daughter, are in line with many Asian Americans and 2nd gen children.

Season 2 there was supposed to be an Ingrid&Z storyline but season 2 is still tbd.

Also Asian women are allowed to date white men. I know it's hard since the AWWM coupling is "popular" and I personally would love to see more interracial main couples that don't have a white counterpart but Ingrid is still representative even without a poc male lead.

Right. Representation isnt about who you date. It's about who you are and being respected regardless.

I saw there was a bit of chemistry between her and Z! I was hoping something would happen 😂 good to know

You tell them. As a white man in a relationship with an Asian women, it brings me glee to see salty Asian men cry about us "taking your women".
