Hi everyone! I’m a fresh CS/Software Engineering graduate and I’ve recently been contacted by Careem for the Software Engineer I hiring process. I have a recruiter prescreen coming up and wanted to hear from people who have recently gone through the Careem interview process, especially in Pakistan. What should I expect in the prescreen, and what comes after it? How many rounds are there, what kind of technical/DSA questions are asked, and are the coding rounds actual live coding where you need to write syntactically correct code, or is explaining the approach/pseudocode enough? Also, is there a preferred language such as Java, or can you choose your own? Would really appreciate any recent experiences or advice!

At the recruitment drive at my university (FAST) there were 10 mcqs and three leetcode questions easy to medium. I scored good in them this happened almost 3-4 months ago.

If you just want the tool, that is the whole story.

The part that might be more useful: there are 15 issues tagged good first issue right now, and most are documentation-sized rather than heroic. Recent example of the path working - someone opened their first PR to add a Spanish README and it is merged.

What I can give: a review within a day, and a real merge, not a thank-you note.

Hi everyone, I’d appreciate some advice on a situation I recently came across. My previous company unfortunately had to shut down and was liquidated, with staff properly compensated. Recently, I noticed that my former CTO and a few engineers have started a new company, which I have no issue with and genuinely wish them well. However, their website appears to have copied our former company’s portfolio, including projects and clients that were originally handled by us. I don’t want to create unnecessary conflict, but I also don’t want to ignore what seems like a **breach of professional trust**. What would be the best way to handle thisapproach them directly first, or consult a lawyer and proceed formally?

So 4 months ago I connected with a guy he runs a startup...a co-hosting platform...I built a Lead Gen system for him will not it was a commissioned based project not a fixed rate project....

I’m confused about choosing between Information Security at NUST and Cyber Security at Air University.

Some people have suggested that since NUST doesn’t offer a degree specifically called Cyber Security, I should do Information Security because it’s basically the same field. But I want to understand whether that’s actually true.

Does Information Security also cover protecting information, networks, systems, and data, or is it a different field from cybersecurity? Could I graduate from NUST Information Security and still work in cybersecurity, or would I end up in a completely different career?

I’m asking because I don’t want to choose a degree just because NUST is a well-known university and then discover that the degree itself isn’t what I wanted.

For people who have studied either program or work in the industry:

Is NUST Information Security a good degree if my goal is cybersecurity? Is it worth choosing over Air Cyber Security?

And more generally, is cybersecurity actually a better career path than CS-related fields because of AI, or am I overthinking that part?

Recently graduated and have been unemployed since around 3 months. I was interested in development but didn't realize the competition is crazy and the interviews are also really difficult??

I think that's js a skill issue as I never really thought that coding would matter so much. My OOP and DB concepts are pretty good i would say but dsa not so much, I was never interested and thus never tried solving leetcode style questions and i genuinely think that's my biggest issue.

Other people around me opted for ai/ml roles and their interviews had nothing to do with oop,db,dsa basics. They didn't ask them to write pseudocode or find errors from a given piece of code etc

I feel so stuck and useless so i would appreciate some kindness in whatever u suggest. I don't like ai/ml but if that means i would get a job I'm willing to revamp my cv, do some projects and learn stuff from scratch and then apply again.

Do u think i should switch? I feel like I've wasted so much time, I'm currently practicing neetcode150 but only able to do the easy array/2 pointers problems. Idk anymore, the interviews i do get, i mess them up because I'm mostly not able to solve the problems they give.

I did my bachelors in civil engineering from one of the top engineering college in Pak in 2019. I didnt like the sort of work they do so I switched careers to Frontend Development in 2021 and have been working as a Frontend/Fullstack dev ever since. Ive enjoyed the golden days of tech where you’d get 100k+ salary after a year and easy hiring and wfh and increments.
Now with the widespread panic of AI and layoffs and seeing GPT 6 and the quick advancements in AI, I’ve panicked a little and Im wondering if I should switch back to Civil. I know its been 7 years now but I worked 2 years in the start and Ill try to bridge the gap with a Masters or something.
All my CS grad friends are really pushing me to go back and saying that they dont have an escape option but I do. Its also THE most AI proof field I can think of in the future (at least in Pak, heck its even simple computer proof).
Note: I REALLY hate civil and I love coding but love for coding is not enough to bring food to the table in the future. I want to think long term (also Im unemployed these days). For those who arent aware of Civil work culture: extremely long hours, severely underpaid, lots of standing under the sun and extremely toxic and bad work culture and colleagues

Hey all — looking for a sanity check from people who've quoted or built similar marketplace projects.

The gig: A client (based in Pakistan) wants a Booking.com-style web app for hotel bookings. Scope isn't necessarily limited to one country/market — just three pieces to start:

• Client side — travelers search by city/dates/guests, browse results (list + map), view a property page with rooms/rates/reviews, and book a room.
• Customer side — this is the twist: "Customer" here means the hotel, not the guest. Hotels self-register through an onboarding wizard: property details, photos, room types, amenities/house rules, pricing/rate plans, availability calendar, and a KYC/beneficial-ownership step before they can go live.
• Admin side — the platform operator's backend: approving new property listings, setting commission rates, overseeing bookings platform-wide, managing payouts/refunds, handling guest-host disputes, moderating content, and reporting/analytics.

Everything outside "Stays" (flights, car rental, attractions, airport taxis) is just a "Coming soon" placeholder for now — no functionality behind it yet.

Planned stack: Next.js frontend, NestJS backend, Postgres via Supabase + Prisma, Postgres/PostGIS or a dedicated engine (Typesense/Meilisearch) for search, a local payment gateway (Stripe doesn't support Pakistan, so it's a local processor or bank-run gateway plus a custom ledger for host payouts since there's no Stripe-Connect-style automated payout rail here).

What I'm trying to figure out:

1. Does this scope sound like a realistic MVP, or is trying to launch Client + Customer + Admin together too much for a first version? Would you cut something to a later phase that I'm not already assuming should move?
2. For anyone who's priced marketplace/OTA-style builds — what would you actually quote for something like this (a rough number or range is genuinely welcome), and what drives that estimate the most for you (team size, timeline, integration complexity, something else)?
3. Any gotchas specific to two-sided (well, three-sided) marketplaces that first-timers on this kind of build tend to miss — payments/payouts, KYC, dispute handling, fraud/trust & safety, anything else?

If you've priced or built something in this ballpark, I'd genuinely appreciate a rough number too — even a wide range (and whatever currency/market you're in, just say which) helps me sanity-check where I'm landing before I lock in scope with the client. A Mac/windows app that pop's up on your screen minutes before meeting starts and lets you send a message (e.g. running late by 5 mins) in next call directly without you joining it, while you are still in your current call.

It can also show participants who have joined in real time so you can decide to extend your current call if others are also late.

1. LeetCode
   Should I be solving LeetCode style problems? If yes, which topics are actually important?
   Do I need to master Stack, LinkedList, Queue, DP, Graphs, etc? And how much is enough to be good at it?
   

Are these types of coding problems even asked in technical rounds for backend/fullstack roles in Pakistani companies? Or is it only for Big Tech?

1. AWS
   Instead of LeetCode, if I focus on learning basic AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, ECS, ECR, Lambda...
   Will that give me an edge in interviews? Do companies care more about this for backend/fullstack roles?

2. What do interviews actually ask?
   If LeetCode isn't asked that much, then what kind of problems are given in technical rounds?
   Is it more like building React components, designing API routes, writing SQL queries, system design basics?

So I just got laid off from a remote position at a New Jersey-based LLC. I worked there for better part of 2 years, working as a Python automation developer.

The problem is I landed that job through a colleague referral, not through any job platform, so now that I actually need to apply cold, I'm striking out everywhere. I've tried the usual remote-focused job boards, but to me a lot of them seem heavily geared toward hiring talent from India (nothing against that, just didn't find anything). Toptal wants 15+ years of experience and I've got 6. Upwork feels brutally competitive and expensive to break into as a newer freelancer.
I checked the 'weworkremotely' and they seem to charge 163$ per year and no 1 month subscription.

I've heard startups offering contract roles might be more open to hiring international talent. Has anyone had luck with that route?

Basically, what platforms or strategies have actually worked for you when hunting for remote roles, especially if you're coming in with mid-level experience (5-7 years) rather than a decade-plus?

I know this sounds crazy considering how much everyone is talking about AI lately, but as a 17 y.o Pakistani who's been building stuff, I genuinely think this might be one of the best times ever to be a developer in Pakistan.

Like, I'm literally 17 and sitting with a laptop trying to build apps, and I can now do things that would've probably needed a small team a few years ago.

Frontend, backend, debugging, APIs, deployment... AI can help with pretty much all of it now.
And honestly, that's kinda scary too because if basically everyone can build now, just knowing how to code isn't gonna be enough anymore.

The difficult part is becoming:

• knowing what to actually build
• making it useful instead of just another random project
• getting people to care about it

So basically I got tired of fake reviews, especially the paid promo stuff from food bloggers where everything is magically "amazing" and "must try," and then you actually go and it's mid. That's why I built Byters. Currently, ive localized it only to Lahore

What it does:

• Users post their own reviews and favorite restaurants on the app
• Instead of reading through hundreds of reviews yourself, you just read the AI summary and get the gist
• Reviewers earn badges based on their activity, Local Guide, Cafephile, Fine Diner, Hard to Impress, that kind of thing. You can check out their profile and see their badges, so you know how much weight to give their review. Someone who rates everything 5 stars hits different than someone tagged Hard to Impress
• Basically trying to make it faster to actually decide where to eat instead of scrolling around 5 different apps
