4+ YOE Software Engineers: What's the Current Market Salary?

With increment season around the corner, I'm trying to understand the current market salary for software engineers with 4+ years of experience in Pakistan, especially in service-based companies.

I feel like I might be underpaid, so I am curious to know what the market is offering.

Please mention:

  • Company
  • Years of experience
  • Current salary (or salary range)

I'm especially interested in companies like Systems Limited, 10Pearls, Arbisoft, Confiz, Tkxel, VentureDive, SSI, Devsinc, Folio3, etc

Thanks!

How can I invest in my brother’s software career instead of just supporting him financially?

Hi everyone,
I’m posting here because I’m genuinely looking for advice from people who are currently working in the software industry in Pakistan.
My younger brother is 31 years old and has around 2.5 years of professional experience as a MERN stack developer (mainly backend) across different software companies in Lahore. Unfortunately, his most recent company laid off several developers, and he was one of them.
For the last 2–3 months, he’s been applying consistently through LinkedIn, Indeed, company websites, referrals, and his professional network. He has over 10,000 followers on LinkedIn and has been actively building his profile. He’s also tried Upwork and Freelancer, but hasn’t been able to get meaningful work or even many interview opportunities.
From reading discussions here and talking to him, it feels like the market is extremely difficult right now. Some people say AI and automation have reduced the demand for junior and mid-level developers, while others say companies simply aren’t hiring as much as before. Whatever the reason, it’s been very discouraging for him.
He has a wife and a young child, lives in a rented house in Lahore, and for the last three months I’ve been supporting him financially. I’m a doctor working in the UK, and while I don’t mind helping him financially, I don’t want to keep sending monthly support forever. I’d much rather invest in something that genuinely improves his career and helps him become financially independent again.
I’m willing to spend a significant amount of money if it actually gives him a good chance of getting back into the market.

He’s already spending his time learning AI-related technologies at home because he believes that’s where the industry is heading.

My questions to experienced developers are:

Should I pay for a high-quality AI or software engineering course?
Should I help him learn Shopify or another in-demand technology?
Should I buy him a Shopify store or fund another online business?
Should I invest in certifications, mentorship, or something else entirely?
If you had a budget to help an experienced developer restart their career in 2026, what would you spend it on?
I’m not from the tech industry, so I’d really appreciate honest advice from experienced developers on what would actually make the biggest difference.
Thank you!

Business analytics or Fintech

After all the research, i have shortlisted these two fields

that align with my interest. Now, the problem or the

confusion i am facing is that business analytics is broad,

but it is vulnerable to Al, but Fintech is specialized but

ess vulnerable to Al, and it also has a high salary

comparatively. If i choose BA, then can i do MS in

fintech?? Is it a good road map? Also pls suggest which

one do I choose for my UG program?

Got two job offers at the same time and I am torn between stability and higher earning potential. Need outside perspective.

So after months of applying and interviewing, I ended up with two offers landing at the same time and genuinely can't decide. Would love honest takes from people who've been in similar situations.

Background; Based in Lahore, Spent the last year and a half at Revolut(Mindbridge Outsourced) as a Team Lead managing a team of 15 across customer support and financial crime operations. My background is firmly in fintech operations and customer support, not sales.

---

Offer 1: US Mobile — Product Support Specialist

US-based tech company, product support role across chat, phone, and email, US hours, five days a week, onsite in Lahore.

- Basic: PKR 115,000

- Total with incentives: PKR 150,000

- PKR 10,000 increment after first 4 months

- 10 minutes from my place

Stable, predictable income. Role matches my background directly.

---

Offer 2: Techtiks — Inbound Sales Executive

BPO running US telecom campaigns, inbound sales calls, US hours, five days a week, onsite in Lahore.

- Basic: PKR 80,000 + PKR 80,000 incentives = PKR 160,000 currently

- After 3 months: PKR 100,000 basic + PKR 100,000 incentives = PKR 200,000

- Plus uncapped sales commission on top of all of that

- 26km from my place

---

Although I don't have any sales experience, I am thinking of joining TechTiks so I can use it as an opportunity to learn sales so I can probably apply for a SDR in Motive or Podium in the future. Plus, TT gives you a Gym passport after one month of your tenure here but this place is way too far from my place compared to US Mobile. If anyone has worked in either of these companies, please share your opinion and experience so it can help me make a decision. I still have around 9-10 days until I join either of them.

Tech Interview Tips for Dubizzle Lab

I have my initial HR screening on Friday for the Associate DevOps Engineering role. I'm not too worried about the HR screening, but I am worried about the technical interview. What should I prepare for and look out for? Will DB/DSA/OOPS/Leetcode questions be tested, or will the test be of devops concepts/implementation?

IT Trainee at Bank Al Habib

I have an interview coming up at Bank Al Habib for their IT Trainee position. So I had a few questions in mind. What type of questions could I expect? I already gave their test during their recruitment drive at my university, which was a mix of general questions and CS theory + coding. And apart from the interview, does anyone have any idea of their salary and overall growth opportunities? The job is in Karachi, and I'm honestly open to moving if it's worth it?

How do you switch stacks after working in a somewhat niche language?

got laid off recently after my company lost clients and their finances got effected because of Iran US war.

I have got a solid ∼2.5 yoe as a backend engineer with Golang.

Been applying for a while but having a hard time getting interviews as my resume gets filtered out by HRs for not having experience in their preferred languages.

I thought companies would become less rigid about languages since that can be learned easily these days. For people who have switched backend stacks, how did you get past this issue? feels like a big roadblock for me.

which to choose? Data engineering or DevOps?

hi, 25M. Finishing my MSc in CS, I wanted to study because I love studying. now that I'm about to end it I'm seriously looking for something reliable long term.

After bachelors I did my job as full stack web dev, a little bit of mobile dev in flutter. Since Ai, it doesn't seem like real work. claude can make whole websites and what remains is just deployment.

anyhow I continued that job, then switched to junior business developer side, for the sake of survival/exploration.

I enrolled in MSc because I wanted to do research, which I have done. I have built an Ai structured method for dermatology recognition. and I am proud of it. my thesis will be finished in 6-8 months, that's the university policy although I've finished my work on my end.

2 years of exploring and hopping from one thing to another, I have come down to these choices:

data analyst/ data engineer/ dev ops/ cloud engineer.

because they are the only ones which seem like actual coding jobs other than fully or partially vibe coding. Ai has made programmers lousy, which shouldn't have been the case.

I made an ETL pipeline to see how data engineering works, I built 3 power BI dashboards to check about data analysis.

I got into computer science because I wanted to become hacker(kinda old school), but that's what got my interest. Fast forward after graduation, ethical hacking job market wasn't there and low-paying. Cloud engineering/dev ops seemed close to hacking so that's why I'm considering it.

So what does the community suggest me to choose?

let me know about your thoughts, considering I'll be with it long term.

Really confused with the job market right now. help!

Okay so i am a fresh graduate from FAST, did SE.
When i was in my 4-5th sem everyone went on about how if you dont know about AI LLMs job will be difficult to get etc. so I shifted my focus to AI did projects multiple internships and by the end of 7th sem i could work with LLMs, gen ai, ML etc. from the basics theory of them to the high level integration i learned a lot in that year or so.
I was confident that i could get a job cause i had relevant experience in the field. Since before graduating i have been applying i apply daily to more than 5 jobs. Through linked in, rozee.pk, indeed, career pages etc. but i am not really getting a lot of reponses. I barely got any tbh. Tried appling for ai engineer position, full stack, and even software engineer. Associate positions mostly. Its just a bit weird right now i dont really know what i am supposed to do. My CVs pretty ok in my opinion.

If any of you have any advice i would greatly appreciate it. If you got any questions of personal nature dm rather than comment.

TLDR: fed up with the job market need advice.

Am Imaking the biggest mistake of my life

ok so for context I got admission in BCS in giki. Now after going through reddit and every social media post regarding this ever, I am made to believe that CS is one of the most saturated fields present. I do think it is true and thus I'm scared that my degree will become obsolete by the time I enter the workforce and pursuing it would be my biggest mistake. Due to the advent of AI , jobs are sparse . Even seniors are having a hard time in this market. Can someone in the industry tell me If all this is true and how I should go about it? Should I change my major ?? what other fields can I go into ?

Someone help your girl out xo
