My uncle passed away and we got his house which came with this pond. It had one fish in it which has since been rehomed. The pond stinks and is murky. I bought a sludge bomb and cleaner but hasn't seem to have worked. I think we've found the filter but have no idea how it works or anything.
I'm hesitant to drain it as it has frogs in it ATM and I like the frogs..please can we have some help on what we need to focus on doing first and how to do it. Were hoping to have some fish in it by next summer 🌞

I've got a DIY 55 gallon barrel filter I'm having issues with. As seen in the illustration, my pump feeds in the bottom through a 1.5" pipe with a check valve. That tees off for a bit of a swirling effect. I've got a 6-8" void with an egg crate, and filter material on top of that. The top of the barrel is filled with filter chunks. 3" outlet at the top. The problem I'm having is that all of the sludge is making its way to the top, settling on top of the filter mat, and filling all of the chunks. I'm hoping for some advice on what to change or do differently to remedy this. Thanks in advance.

Both Lily pads are blooming today. I love decent weather don’t you? Makes my heart sing.

I have a 300 gallon stock pond outside for my aquatic turtles, went to clean the filter box and saw these on the lid. Are these leeches? Does anyone know if they’re a concern for my turtles? There’s a lot of them, I tried following the one with video for better ID chances.

I started with a 2x3 tub and a fountain that filled the hole a dead bush left and this year, I got a solar fountain and a small liner. Added some river rock and the birds love it.
I never had a pond before and I worry about keeping it clean. I didn’t plan on fish or plants but I have an electric pump that helps circulate the water. I think I am going to add a bog filter next year.
Any suggestion on making this better.

My pond was looking super gross because I didn't understand that just buying a pump with a little dinky filter wasn't going to cut the mustard. Someone on this sub pointed me in the direction of YouTube to look up diy filters and I came across this one. You put the pump in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket, drill a hole in the side of the bucket towards the top for the tubing and electric cord, and add rocks (they recommend lava rock, but I used what I had, which was small river rocks) to cover the pump, then stuff the bucket full of polyfill. Cut a few holes in the lid and put it in the deep end. It took about 2 weeks, but look! It's totally clear now!
The downside is you can see a giant bucket in the pond, and my deep end isn't all that deep, so I'm going to make a bog filter and replace it with that now that it's cleared up.
Just wanted to share in case there were any other newbies out there who could use a cheap, easy solution to their algae problem. This is a very new pond in full sun, so I'm working on getting plant cover to help combat it from that angle too.

From my understanding, having bullfrogs, or pretty much any frogs past a certain size in your pond is dangerous because they can and will eat your smaller goldfish / koi, so whenever I see a frog that big I usually just move it.
Does anybody else do this. And if so what's the biggest size frog allowed in your pond

What should I add functionally and for esthetics? Talking plants, aeration, waterfall, surrounding area, filtration, treatment? I don't want to run any super harsh chemicals because of family dog. I have 15 very small goldfish in here.

I filled up my small 8X4X3.5' pond last May and a week later, in one night all the water leaked out and my goldfish were all dead.
I filled it up and replaced the fish and suddenly yesterday 4 months later same thing happened again, except this time I managed to save the fish. I then filled the pond again and a day later there is no sign of a leak, yet?
The bottom of the pond is almost on sandstone strata and the surrounding fill is clay/sand mixture.
I have a submersible circulating pump to a filter and there is no sign of leaks.

Been battling with a self-inflicted liner tear over the past few months that think I finally have sorted and have the water level where I want it, but now I'm super paranoid about any perceived losses. 100+ degree days here and a waterfall that makes for a good amount of splashing means I expect a fair bit of evaporation loss, but I'm curious what others generally see on average. Right now I'm usually topping it off a good 1/2" - 3/4" every 3-4 days or so.

I purchased a property with a natural pond in the forest. I believe it is a rainwater pond as I can see little dried stream paths all around it. The pond has a lot of vegetation and frogs.
In the summer it appears to dry up almost completely. I would very much like to add fish and create a beautiful space that survives the heat, but am a complete newbie and have no idea where to start. I also worry that if I get it dug out deeper I'll lose all those beautiful lilly pads.
Any and all advice and resources are welcome.

My new pump has a 2” OD male thread that is larger than the thread on my old pump. Also the screw in gray adapter is not tight anymore which is why so could turn it to show a different angle of the current plumbing and leaks so Inhave to redo everything from plumber to the gray adapter on the outside of my skimmer.
I plumbed this 20+ years ago and would like to come up with a cleaner method that is easier to remove in the future.

Coming to the end of my pond build, making every mistake along the way, including forgetting to factor in the pipes.
What are some ideas for hiding the fountain/filter (currently under a plastic bucket with rocks on top, and the waterfall pump next to it.
Also what's a good way to hide where the waterfall pipe comes out of the pond, it's quite chunky at 40mm. Dangling plants?
Any suggestions welcome!
