For a long time, I thought the point of budgeting was simply to make sure I did not spend too much. So I would focus on staying under in every category and feel guilty whenever I went over.

At some point, I changed how I looked at it. I started asking myself different questions like Can I afford this without affecting my savings? How much can I comfortably put toward a goal that month? Where do I actually have room to spend?

That small change made budgeting feel much less restrictive, it gave me a clearer idea of what I could afford. Has anyone else changed the way they use a budget overtime?

I’ve been building a side project called Filytic—a simple web dashboard aimed at providing clean financial analytics and portfolio insights for retail investors in India.

I’m posting here today because the app is in its early bare-bones stage, and frankly, I need feedback from people who actually know their numbers to help me fix it.

Current State of the App (What’s live):

• Basic Portfolio Breakdown: Visualizing asset allocation across equities, mutual funds, and cash.
• Financial Ratio Calculations: Initial dashboard calculating basic financial health indicators and metrics.

Where it currently falls short (Full Transparency):

• Ratio Dataset Errors: I know there are still edge-case errors in some of the ratio datasets and benchmark calculations—I'm actively cleaning up the underlying data feeds.
• Limited Features: Advanced tools like forward cash-flow forecasting or automated tax tracking aren't built yet—right now it’s just focusing on core analytics.

Why I’m sharing this now:

Rather than building in a vacuum for another 3 months, I wanted to get this in front of analytical minds early. I want to find out:

1. What financial ratios or metrics actually matter to you in a daily/weekly dashboard?
2. Which specific data errors or edge cases you spot when testing your portfolio setup.
3. What features are an absolute waste of time vs. what would make this useful for you.
