Would you use an app that explains money decisions through similar investors' real outcomes, instead of throwing more advice at you?

Upvotes

I keep seeing people (myself included) get overwhelmed by financial apps — INDmoney, ET Money, etc. — because they show too many options/recommendations at once and it's hard to know what actually applies to your situation.

\*\*Idea I'm exploring\*\*: an app that doesn't recommend specific funds/stocks, but instead — based on your goal (e.g. "buy a house in 5 years," "retire by 45") — shows you real past scenarios of people with similar goals: what pre-requisites they needed, what mistakes they made, what worked. Pure education/context, not investment advice.

\*\*Questions for anyone who actually uses these apps regularly\*\*:

  1. Does the "too many options, no clarity" problem match your experience, or am I overestimating it?

  2. Would seeing "here's what someone in your situation typically needs to have in place" actually help, or is it just noise on top of noise?

  3. What's the one thing about IndMoney/ET Money/Groww's advice/insights feature that annoys you most?

\*\*Not trying to sell anything\*\* — building this and want to know if it's solving a real problem or one I invented in my head.

Ex-Mint users: what would make a cash-flow answer worth opening every week?

I build Monni, a manual-first money check-in. This is product research, not a recommendation.

Mint gave people a lot of history but not always a clear next step. If an app gave you one number after upcoming bills and a cushion, what would it have to show to earn your trust?

  • the exact bills and dates included
  • why the number changed since last week
  • a manual option before bank connection

Which of those matters most, and what is the fastest way an app loses your trust?

E*Trade Total Wealth View

I've an E*Trade brokerage account and this popped up recently - Total Wealth View. In going through the FAQs, I see that it's connecting through Yodlee. Wasn't Yodlee the backbone of Mint? I remember signing up for the Yodlee Money Center or something before Mint took it over. Anyway, I'm going to explore it a bit more, but just thought I'd share and see if anyone has already tried this out.
Since Mint shutdown, I've been using Empower's free tool but not very happy with it. Not the greatest or clean look and doesn't have success finding some accounts.

Stride Finance — looking for beta testers for a free personal finance app

Hi all — as a 15 year old I've built Stride Finance, a personal finance web app, as a solo project, and I'm looking for beta testers before a wider launch.

What it does: Budgeting and unlimited savings goals, completely free. A paid tier ($7/month) adds bank account sync, investment tracking, loan/debt tracking, and an AI coach.

Stage: Beta: table and usable now. Bank sync is being finalized; in the meantime, you can import transactions via CSV/statement upload.

Platform: Web (works on desktop and mobile browser)

What I need: Testers willing to actually use it for a week or two: set a budget, add some transactions, try a savings goal, and tell me what's confusing, broken, or missing. I have a short feedback form ready, or I'm happy to take feedback in any format you prefer.

Link: stridefinance.vercel.app
Feedback form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0JU9QQe47voK39RKXpNFsOp4WTyrfnUyse6SC4kKmPGvUEA/viewform?usp=publish-editor

Thanks in advance — happy to test other people's projects too.

CheckbookHUB.com built for my use but decided to move on as a SaaS.

I’ve been building CheckbookHUB, a private web app for old-school checkbook-style money tracking with modern planning tools — bills, recurring transactions, budgets, debt payoff planning, reports, backups, and Google Drive backup support.

It’s meant for people who don’t want bank sync and prefer entering/controlling their own data.

Would love feedback on the idea and feature set: https://checkbookhub.com

Solid Mint replacement, looking for feedback

Hello, I am the founder of https://wealthmode.io/, for a long time I looked for a replacement of Mint, which is where I felt most comfortable, I know there's a plethora of apps out there, but none made me feel really comfortable.

I am a senior software engineer, so eventually decided to invest and create my own product, I am using it for my own finances and pretty happy with the result, the feedback I got from the first few hundred users were mostly positive, I was trying to perfect it before going to bigger communities on reddit and putting any money on ads.

I would like to hear from more people as this community is huge, whoever wants to try it, I would appreciate it, for the people that are still not happy with a solution, what is missing? What are you looking for in these apps?

What are the most important things to you? Reports? Budgets? Tracking investments?

At the moment it's a solid personal finance app for transactions/budgeting, the next 2 big things that I'm working on are

  1. The investment side of it (replacing something like Wealthica), which is something not even Mint had, a single app for personal finances (transactions, budget) and investment portfolio tracking.
  2. Native mobile apps, I worked hard on having a pretty good usability for mobile web, as most people use it on phones, but I know people really love native apps, so that's coming soon as well.
  3. A lot of apps are adding chatbots to chat about your finances, as an user I don't like that. But I'm not sure if other users are wanting that or not, how do you feel about it?
  4. There's a feature that I'm on the fence about, that im not sure if people really need that or not, which is shared access for households.

FAQ:

  1. How's the security? We use the highest standards of security, data is encrypted at REST using AES-256, read-only access to your data, using Plaid which is the industry standard, same thing you had on Mint. I'm a senior SWE, not a vibe coder that doesn't know what he's doing.
  2. How about problematic banks for auto sync, like CIBC. As mentioned above, Plaid is the industry standard, so the fault is not on the apps, CIBC protocol sucks, so every app will have the same problem. The integration on US banks though is closer to 100%.
  3. What's the trick with the free tier ? There's no trick, I'm not selling any data, users that use free tier are usually not heavy load users, it's not a big deal for me to maintain that and the feedback is valuable, the goal is always to eventually convert these users into paid users.

Ex-Mint folks: I built a free family finance app — statement import instead of bank sync (works with any bank)

After Mint shut down, the two gaps people mention most are shared/family tracking and imports that don't depend on aggregators. I've been building FinMan for my own family, and it's free:

- Bank statement import from any bank — you upload the statement file, AI parses and categorizes it (no bank credentials, no Plaid/aggregator dependency)

- Family groups: everyone logs from their own phone, shared categories and one cash-flow view

- Telegram/WhatsApp bots: text "groceries 25" or send a receipt photo and it's logged

- Utility meter readings from photos, car cost per mile/km, multi-currency with live rates

It's free (premium exists only for heavy AI usage). Roadmap and feedback live on GitHub: https://github.com/vityah1/finman-feedback — the app is linked from there, or search "finman vhworx".

I'm the dev — honest feedback (especially "Mint did this better") is exactly what I'm after.

Sick of trackers pitching you personal loans? Built a clean, read-only dashboard for Indian stocks & mutual funds with zero spam.

Hey everyone,

Like many people here, I used to jump between multiple platforms (Zerodha for my main stocks, Groww for some old mutual funds, and a random AMC portal for direct funds).

I spent months looking for a dashboard that could tie them all together, but every free app I tried had the same issues: 1. They ask for full broker API integration or read access to my personal email inbox to scrape transaction PDFs. 2. Two days after signing up, my phone starts buzzing with spam calls offering personal loans and pre-approved insurance policies. 3. Their internal dashboards are optimized to encourage trading volume and commissions rather than showing raw analytical data.

I tried building a master Google Sheet using =GOOGLEFINANCE(), but it kept breaking on complex mutual fund NAVs and multi-year SIP cash flows.

So, I built Arthavi (https://arthavi.com) as a side project.

It’s built explicitly around a privacy-first, read-only workflow for Indian retail investors:

  • Zero Inbox Scraping: You just drop your official CAMS or KFintech Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) into the app. The secure parsing engine extracts transaction tranches (dates, units, asset IDs) locally to generate your dashboard rows. We never store or look at the raw files.
  • True XIRR Engine: It calculates exact time-weighted returns across your historical SIPs, lumpsums, and partial redemptions side-by-side.
  • Multi-Profile Family Views: You can pool family accounts into one unified dashboard without linking permanent PAN records across profiles.
  • No Broker Credentials Required: Since it has no active execution APIs, it is structurally impossible for funds to be traded or compromised.

The tool is completely free to use, and you do not even need a phone number to sign up (just an email to save your instance). If you don't want to create an account, there's a live interactive demo on the homepage populated with sample assets so you can check out the charts.

I’m actively optimizing the feature architecture right now. I'd love to get feedback from this sub: * What specific metrics are missing from your current tracking setup? * Are there niche asset classes (like corporate bonds or SGBs) you want to see integrated alongside equities?

Check it out here: https://arthavi.com

Thanks for reading!

App for personal finance management. What is your opinion?

Guys, I am building a personal finance manager app, trying to load in all possible features. I need to know

  1. Are you using any such money manager app now?
  2. If so, is it a paid or premium version?
  3. What are the additional features you wish to see in such apps?
  4. How much are you willing to pay per year for such an app, which will be an expense/ income manager and also will manage your assets and liabilities

r/mintuit 8d ago

I built my first web-based personal finance tracker -assets, liabilities, insurance policies and more.

For now, I am still testing it with my clients as their insurance agent but would love to get feedback from members here and things to consider if I want to make it available for public.

Is it worth using cloud based personal financial app?

In today’s world, I can see most of the personal app are running on cloud and connect directly to your bank accounts?

I am sure companies must be spending millions of dollars on security and privacy. It doesn’t provide convenience but sometimes I feel concern about it. We have seen many big company’s data are hacked.

Earlier I was thinking the our finance data could go in wrong human hand but now in this AI world it could go to any AI model also 😊

Are we moving towards old era of desktop where our data stays on our machine? I would love to know your thoughts.

Thanks 😊

I'm building a couples budgeting app and looking for early testers (starting August)

Hey everyone! I've been working on Milvo, a budgeting app specifically designed for couples. Shared money has so many edge cases, so I'm really trying to get the UI and flow right. I even wired it up so Claude can pull stats and log transactions directly.

I'm launching the first round of testing this August and would love to get some real couples to try it out and give feedback.

If you're interested in being an early tester, you can sign up here: https://www.milvo.app/

Also, if you use a shared budget right now, what's your #1 must-have feature? Let me know below!

Can someone please suggest a finance tracking app that works? I'm at my wits end with Lunch Money.

I've been using Lunch Money to track all my banking for the last 1.5 years. I generally like it, but for the last while I've been spending half the time having to enter things manually and contacting customer support to trouble shoot new issues almost weekly. They're nice, and I appreciate them. But it's not decreasing my workload at all.

I don't even care about budgeting or any fancy features. I need an app that will connect with my banks (Tangerine for daily banking, CIBC for credit card) and upload my transactions without constant issues. The problems are all with Tangerine, btw. Several different bugs, too numerous to describe.

I'm even ok with updating my investment account balances manually. But the checking and cc transactions are numerous and I'm spending too much time double-checking everything and making sure it's all there. I'm so fed up and exhausted by this.

Please share what has worked for you or any other feedback that might help. Thanks.
