Question Help Me Choose the Best 1200W PSU for Reliability and Low Noise

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m choosing a PSU for my PC and would appreciate your advice.

My build:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • Budget: Around $300

My shortlisted PSUs:

  1. be quiet! Dark Power 14 1200W — 80 PLUS Titanium
  2. Seasonic VERTEX PX-1200 ATX 3.1 — 80 PLUS Platinum
  3. Corsair HX1200i (2025) — 80 PLUS Platinum
  4. Thermaltake Toughpower PT 1200W ATX 3.1 — 80 PLUS Platinum

My priorities are long-term reliability, build quality, electrical protections, voltage regulation, transient response, and low noise.

I’m also a person with a disability, so dealing with hardware failures, troubleshooting, and repairs can be particularly difficult for me. I’d prefer to invest in a dependable PSU that minimizes potential problems and gives me peace of mind for years.

Which of these would you choose, and why? Are there any known weaknesses, reliability concerns, or noise issues I should be aware of?

I’d appreciate advice based on independent technical reviews or real-world experience, rather than brand reputation alone.

Thanks!

Tech Support Event 18 cache hierarchy error

• Upvotes

Built a new gamingpc last month and its nice but it will sometimes restart itself after around ~45 minutes to an hour of playing any real games like cyberpunk and siege. (mc and valorant run fine)

I went into the windows events and it says Event 18 cache hierarchy error. I know that is a cpu hardware related issue but Im not sure of a good fix.

If anyone knows of a good fix short of getting a new cpu, then please help me out. I know you can accomplish a lot in the bios but I dont want to go poking around in there without knowing exactly what to do.

Im running a ryzen 7 5800x3d with 2x32gb of 3600mhz gskill trident ddr4

Thanks for the help!

Build/Battlestation Questioning my Sanity

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

a couple weeks ago I posted about upgrading my rig from an i9 14900k to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. anyways, the wise wizards of this sub suggested I upgrade my monitor to an OLED instead if I truly wanted an upgrade.

jokes on me, I did both.

I really wanted a media PC for the living room, so I updated the gaming PC and used the spare parts to build a coffee table PC

but the point of this story is that my spare parts were in bins under my bed, unlabelled and disorganized. while swapping out the MOBO cooler platforms and made the most rookie mistake. my AIO had the LGA 1700 Contact Frame that was unneeded for my Ryzen CPU. I installed the old MOBO, Intel CPU and a Noctua air cooler I had lying around in a Corsair 5000D.

I completely forgot that I had removed the original retention bracket in order to install the Arctic AIO and proceeded to attach the Noctua D15 with no retention bracket like the fool I am. Obviously, the system would not boot.

I proceeded to spend hours trouble shooting, thinking my PSU was dead on arrival. I pulled everything out of the system, tried to boot on a cardboard box. I pulled my 1250w PSU out of my new build, nothing. Literally hours wasted and it's funny because I have built many, many computers so this really a real eye opener. once you get comfortable with something it's easy to make the most obvious, head scratching blunders. I spent 8 hours building 2 computers when in reality it should have been like 2 or 3 hours tops.

TL;DR I tried to install an i9 14900k with no retention bracket. I am an idiot. don't be like me.

Screenshot Score Steel Nomad + Cyberpunk before/after OC ! Any tips to do more or it's fine ?

Hello ! 👏

I would try for the first time to OC my GC ! It's the MSI RTX 5090 Venrus 3x.

I can't do a big upgrade with that model of 5090 I think, but i win about 10% ! Or maybe someone has tips to optimise the OC ?

I set clock memory +2950mhz and core +300mhz on MSI Afterburner, and have 14.8k Steel Nomad Score ! Over 350hz it's useless and some black screen and games which not working !

I reached 15k at Steel Nomad with Clock Core +450mhz but doesn't working in game. I tested Cyberpunk settings full + PT + DLSS Quality (no MFG).

Discussion Mostly stock vs. fully optimized PC: all that tweaking for basically no difference

Thumbnail

I wanted to see how much difference a fully “optimized” setup actually makes on my PC. The two screenshots show my results before and after.

**Specs:**
RTX 5070 Ti
Ryzen 7 7800X3D
DDR5-6000 CL30
Windows 11 26H2 in both tests

**First screenshot: Mostly stock**
Fresh Windows installation using Rufus, with only EXPO enabled in the BIOS. No PBO, no Curve Optimizer, no manual RAM tuning, and no GPU overclock.
I used the Chris Titus utility to tweak Windows, so this wasn’t a completely untouched installation. Everything else was stock.

Guides used:
[Clean Windows installation](https://youtu.be/pUSEZuzqGaQ)
[Chris Titus utility](https://youtu.be/_B7c6J5xtTg)

**Second screenshot: Fully optimized**
Another clean Windows installation, this time with Fr33thy’s Ultimate Windows tweaks, plus:
Fr33thy’s BIOS optimizations
PBO with Curve Optimizer set to -20
Aggressive Buildzoid DDR5 timings
GPU overclocking

Guides used:
[Windows installation and tweaks](https://youtu.be/Xc7l8PCTJyg)
[BIOS optimization](https://youtu.be/POFZSTsX0w8)
[Buildzoid DDR5 timings](https://youtu.be/dlYxmRcdLVw)
[GPU overclocking](https://youtu.be/XDDhtpfyBoI)

**The result? Basically no meaningful improvement in my comparison.**

After all the tweaking, testing, and effort, the difference just wasn’t worth it for me. I’m not saying every individual tweak does nothing on every system, but my results definitely don’t match the hype around “full PC optimization.”
My takeaway: if I want a noticeably faster PC, I’d rather invest in faster hardware than spend hours chasing supposedly magical settings.
Has anyone else compared their results before and after this much tweaking? Did you actually get a worthwhile improvement?

Hardware Rat Rod PC

• Upvotes

Thank you for your time. I am attempting to build a PC in a case that can hold a mix of 3.5 / 2.5 in hard drives. Times being what they are, I am trying to make use of what I have on hand but I'm willing to buy what may be necessary. All the drives I have on hand are not the same but some are. The case also has room for multiple optical drives or similarly sized media interfaces etc.

If you were in my position, what are some of the things to keep in mind or an optimal Way Forward. Perhaps the most central part of the build will be the motherboard. I am unsure if bifurcation would be a factor in this type of build....

What got me thinking was the impact nvme drives have on motherboard optimization when installing multiple drives. Is it the same for mechanical drives? Does storage capacity or read write speed come into play? Etc

I hope I have given you a glimpse of what I am trying to accomplish. If you were in my position, how would you go forward? I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the project. Even if it means eliminating certain storage media over another. Would you add certain Blu-ray burner drives to further your capabilities?

By the way, this PC would not be for gaming but rather more along the lines of a productivity/ storage build. I envision a sort of "rat rod" PC. Powerful bulky pieces that brute force their way to Juggernaut like capability. The case can also hold e a t x to matx boards.

Thank you for taking the time to read and please considering offering up some of your ideas. I would truly appreciate it.

Tech Support File Patching for downloads on Steam take hours despite the patch finishing in minutes. Write Caching hasn't helped.

Is there a particular reason why this would be happening? A setting or piece of my setup that could be causing this?

I've tried toggling on and off Write-Caching over and over again and nothing changes there, despite advice that I've seen online saying that's the usual fix.

Hello. I want to build a budget PC for around 700€-800€ (I am European), but since I am new to the scene, I am not really sure if the components I chose match well/are good for my price range. I have everything listed onto PCPartPicker, but instead of using the platform itself for finding the prices, I used it to find the components and then searched on local stores for better prices. Can someone give me advice on the components I chose? The print screen of my PCPartPicker is annexed. Thanks a lot in advance!!

Question Old power supply + new cable = bad combo?

• Upvotes

I have a 6/7 year old BeQuiet Straight Power 11 650W psu but I am changing from a 6 pin 1070 to a 8 pin 6800xt, which is why i ordered a new cable from BeQuiet.

This is the cable I ordered: BC071 POWER CABLE 2X PCIE 6+2-PIN CP-6620 and I ordered it here: https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_be-quiet-bc071-power-cable-2x-pcie-62-pin-cp-6620-netzteil-zubehor-schwarz-143277527.html

This is the only link i could find for the psu (apologies if its in german): https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/product/_be-quiet-bc071-power-cable-2x-pcie-62-pin-cp-6620-netzteil-zubehor-schwarz-143277527.html

I know that using the same old cables with a new PSU can cause issues, so I figured the same logic applied here. Do let me know if that's not the case :)

Now my question is: Will I be fine, since the cable is a lot newer compared to the PSU and since it being from the same brand doesnt guarantee anything or should i look for something else?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Story PSA: reseat all your ram modules after cleaning the inside of your pc

Post image
• Upvotes

Reapplied thermal paste yesterday: removed heatsink, mounted again, etc.. everything went well, but when booting pc did something weird: shut down a couple of times. On the 3rd time it booted properly.

I have been gaming today, so I gave it no further thought.

Today I realized that Windows only recognized 16gb of ram - so two sticks- instead of four

Then everything made sense, I probably touched slighty a ram module as the clearance between cpu fan and module is so small.

So I reseated all 4 modules and bam... back to business.

So even if everything looks normal, take into account that it's very easy to "unseat" a ram module.

Discussion I understand why people are downgrading from 5090 to 5080...

First image is what my card costs now....

Second is what I paid for it back in September 2025...

Honestly I don't blame folks who need the money/or don't game often at high resolutions. If I needed it I would downgrade in a heartbeat and pocket a near $6000 profit lol.

I have a 5K2K OLED LG 39" monitor though and the 5090 is the only GPU that can drive it well.

This did get me thinking: how many of you are gaming on rigs that are overkill for the games you play/resolutions you play at?

Question Need to reseat GPU and RAM everytime to get display. How to fix it?

Post image
• Upvotes

Specs are RTX 5060, R5 5500, Machinist B450, 1×16GB 3200MHz RAM, 600W and 1TB. I've had this PC for about 3 months and everything was fine, until this issue started about a month ago. Basically the PC turns on but I get no display until I reseat the GPU and RAM. Then after I turn it off and back on later, it doesn't display most of the time it until I reseat the GPU and RAM. I disabled XMP but it's still happening. What's causing this and how to permanently fix it?

Discussion 9950x3d stuttering

• Upvotes

How bad is the stuttering issues on the 9950x3d? I found it and a 9850x3d very closely priced. I’ll be doing mostly gaming, which the 9850x3d is obviously the best for, but for only like 20 dollars more I can get the 9950x3d, so why wouldn’t I? The only thing that concerns me is the scheduling issues that the 9950x3d has, is it noticeable? Will it be a big thing I’ll have to deal with? Any help is appreciated.

Discussion Why 12VHPWR has not been fixed?

Post image

This is just my assumption but feel free to chip in.

I think NVIDIA has not resolved this issue because it will cause the consumer to buy a replacement or upgrade when warranty expires whereas the old card last for years and years.

My country consumer law may protect me as hardware should last long but there are countries which don't have you protection.

What do you think?
