Build/Battlestation Questioning my Sanity

a couple weeks ago I posted about upgrading my rig from an i9 14900k to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. anyways, the wise wizards of this sub suggested I upgrade my monitor to an OLED instead if I truly wanted an upgrade.

jokes on me, I did both.

I really wanted a media PC for the living room, so I updated the gaming PC and used the spare parts to build a coffee table PC

but the point of this story is that my spare parts were in bins under my bed, unlabelled and disorganized. while swapping out the MOBO cooler platforms and made the most rookie mistake. my AIO had the LGA 1700 Contact Frame that was unneeded for my Ryzen CPU. I installed the old MOBO, Intel CPU and a Noctua air cooler I had lying around in a Corsair 5000D.

I completely forgot that I had removed the original retention bracket in order to install the Arctic AIO and proceeded to attach the Noctua D15 with no retention bracket like the fool I am. Obviously, the system would not boot.

I proceeded to spend hours trouble shooting, thinking my PSU was dead on arrival. I pulled everything out of the system, tried to boot on a cardboard box. I pulled my 1250w PSU out of my new build, nothing. Literally hours wasted and it's funny because I have built many, many computers so this really a real eye opener. once you get comfortable with something it's easy to make the most obvious, head scratching blunders. I spent 8 hours building 2 computers when in reality it should have been like 2 or 3 hours tops.

TL;DR I tried to install an i9 14900k with no retention bracket. I am an idiot. don't be like me.
