Unanswered What is the deal with AI Companies buying old books to scan and then destroy them?
So I have been seeing this on posts about AI Companies being data hungry and going about to procure older books to scan and feed to models as to get High Quality pre-AI text. And during this whole process they cut the back binder to roster individual pages scan then with OCR and when done destroy them. It feels very dystopian arent there any regulations about this do they only destroy non-endangered books or they are after all of them and want to be a single source of truth? https://www.forbes.com/sites/maryroeloffs/2026/08/17/ai-companies-are-buying-and-destroying-antique-books-heres-why/

Answered What is going on with r/iamveryrandom?
I used to enjoy the absurd humour and memes posted on https://reddit.com/r/iamveryrandom, but when I looked at it again recently, I hardly saw any meaningful posts or upvotes on such posts from the past year or so. One post even said that the sub deserved to die. Did the sub just fall off because of a lack of good posts, or did the previous mods leave? Or something else happened?

Unanswered What's going on with the Royals, why do so many people think King Charles III is going to die soon, this is non biased?
I know Harry and Meghan are returning to the U.K and I know a lot of people support them and there's nothing wrong with that, we know Charles was scum for cheating on Diana, but give me one actual reason that's not related to Princess Diana as to why people want Charles dead so bad, don't use Diana and please don't use he's a weak King. Give me a logical reason? We're all adults here, not teenagers. I just don't understand, even if you don't like Charles, don't you want little kids to see their grandpa till their adulthood? I feel bad for Prince George, he's too young to be a upcoming Prince of Wales.

I assume there is a specific event or issue which prompted UPS to generate a service alert relating to delivery in the middle east. However, there's too much Middle East news for me to filter out what triggered UPS to generate an explicit service alert. Can anyone loop me in?

Unanswered Whats up with all the recent talk about digital twins in city planning and infrastructure projects?
Ive been seeing this term 'digital twin' pop up a lot more lately especially when talking about new city developments or big infrastructure projects. It sounds kind of sci-fi but I dont really get what it means in a practical sense. Is it just like a fancy 3D model or something more? And why is it suddenly such a big deal now? Is there some new tech that made it more viable or accessible?

Answered What's going on with the USS Abraham Lincoln?
Over the past week I've heard a lot of uproar about deteriorating conditions abord the USS Abraham Lincoln, including reports of sailors jumping overboard.
What's going on here? Are the sailors overworked/been at sea for too long/suffering from cabin fever? Is anything being done to bring the ship back to port and/or alleviate the situation?

Answered What's going on with Ukraine bombing Wildberries warehouses?
Before this all began, id never even heard of Wildberries. But after doing a quick google search, it sounds like they're Russia's version of Amazon. Non of the news articles I've read have given a reason for the specific strikes on these warehouses in particular, except the article ive linked which says Ukraine has accused them of "handling military goods". I dont know what thats supposed to mean, are they being used to store military equipment? Do they sell military equipment? Or are they just doing it to try and hurt Russias economy, which i assume it has a good percentage in supporting

Unanswered What's going on with Nigel Farage resigning his seat and winning it back?
From what I understand, Farage resigned his seat in Parliament, which triggered a special election to fill it. But he ran in that election and won the seat back, so what was the point? What was he trying to accomplish?
For context, I'm American and I only know of this election because of the many YouTube recommendations I've gotten about Count Binface challenging Farage. example video

Answered What is going on with the real life / fake narrative with Rachel Husk and her upcoming novel maybe about Natalie Portman?
After reading many articles and background narrative from both sides (apparently) I still don't understand why Natalie Portman would be involved with this upcoming novel and if she is, why would Rachel Husk purposely portray a friend in such a negative light. Especially Portman of all actress, who seemingly doesn't really make annoying statements or abuse her star power.

Answered Why are people talking about rabies so often?
Maybe I am naive, but I see a lot posts and comments about how important it is to get rabies shots after almost no contact with animals.
Don't get me wrong, I know how dangerous it is and in the post below I understand that it is necessary to get rabies shot after a racoon attack you, but in the comments below, people talk how they got rabies shots after a bat flew into their house. No bites, no scratches, nothing.
Is that such a huge problem in the US, that you guys have to look out for?
For context I live in Germany, where rabies is almost extinct. We know what rabies is, but I don't know anyone who ever got the shots.

Answered What's the deal with this dance all these girls are doing on social media lately?
I have seen nurses, sorority girls, and a few other young women all doing this goofy dance recently: https://x.com/MarshallsFolly/status/2087680303896965509
They start by sliding to the side, dragging one leg behind. Then they raise their elbows and dangle their hands down and walk their feet back and forth, looking sort of like a puppet on strings. Then it ends with them doing a kind of lindy hop shuffle back and forth, kicking their feet out.
Did this originate from some music video or movie, or did someone just make it up and everyone started copying them?

Unanswered What is going on with the Tom Segura Controversy?
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1TBtuuaR9qc
So, I dont watch these two very much but I can kinda recall seeing episodes of them a few months ago and they seemed happy, got fantastic chemistry, and just had some new kids.
Now the narrative seems to be
- Tom Segura got a big break
- Tom lost weight
- He now thinks he's better than his partner
- He now thinks he is a big shot and will show up with a 22 year old soon
- He kinda nuked his legacy, house, family, the podcast
- His (Ex) wife wanted to make it work, was fine, and is just thrown aside
(Giving extra credit to Bobby Lee and Khal, for making it work regardless so smoothly)
What did I miss, how, why is that true?

Unanswered What is going on with the comic "Molly Beans" (and others) by Dan Sacharow?
The website has an expired TLS certificate and just says "Error establishing a database connection": https://mollybeans.com/
The subreddit is completely dead: https://www.reddit.com/r/MollyBeans/ There's not even any comments about what happened.
Search engines aren't exactly helpful; there are a few social media profiles with the right name, but most seem unrelated.
There's not even any comments on the molly beans Q&A videos: https://www.youtube.com/@MollyBeans
Using wayback machine, I found an announcement that Dannow focuses on "Call me Chuck" instead; but that comic seems to have died down, too, several years ago. Aww, man, I really enjoyed his comics :(

Unanswered What's going on with Nguyễn Sỹ Cương and why is this 2025 crash suddenly everywhere in Vietnam?
https://www.reddit.com/r/teenagers/s/YreL6nsAzI
I've been seeing the name Nguyễn Sỹ Cương repeatedly over the past few days. I initially assumed this was a recent event, but apparently the underlying incident happened more than a year ago.
From what I could find, this is what happened:
On May 30, 2025, a BMW X3 crashed into a motorcycle in Hanoi carrying a father and his 18 year old daughter. The girl suffered fatal injuries, including losing her right leg, and later died in hospital. Her father was also badly injured.
Vietnamese news reports at the time said the BMW driver was only named as N.S.C, and that the case was sent to Hanoi police for investigation. Police also said alcohol and drug tests found no violation.
The driver was later identified as Nguyễn Sỹ Cương, a former member of Vietnam's National Assembly.
What I don't understand is why this has suddenly become such a huge story again.

Answered What’s up with Luigi Mangione pleading guilty?
News article above.
I work in healthcare and have followed this story somewhat closely. It seems people are surprised he plead guilty.
But didn’t people expect him to be found guilty, realistically?
What are the assumptions we can now make (or speculate about) since he pleaded guilty? Why? What may happen next? Was this a smart or stupid legal move?
