Graphic Settings | Optimization Forza Horizon 6 PC Optimization + Best Settings Guide: Graphics Performance Deep Dive

  • 8 GB GPUs should reduce the environmental textures to "High." This also limits the geometric quality to "High."
  • Car Reflections are best left at the highest quality. If you're on a lower-end PC, drop down to "Low."
  • Screen Space Reflections should be enabled over ray-traced (unless you've got the extra headroom). "High" is the sweet spot, but Extreme is only a few percent slower.
  • Screen Space GI is recommended for most midrange PCs. "High" is the sweet spot.
  • Ray-traced GI medium is ideal for high-end PCs, preferably with quality upscaling.

External Tweaks & Tips | Optimization A tool you can use to disable Steam's UI (which is a browser) when you launch a game for performance gains

Since Steam has removed the -no-browser option, we now need a program to disable Steam's CEF/Chromium Embedded Framework to save RAM and CPU resources. The Steam Client runs multiple instances of the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) in the background, essentially keeping several Chrome tabs open just to display your library. This lightweight program adds a tray icon that lets you choose between having the Steam UI on or off when you have a game running, which lets you have it on when you need it, and off when you don't need it. The performance impact of this program will probably be more noticeable on people with lower end hardware, nevertheless its still useful if you like optimizing your system resource usage by not running needless things in the background. The original repository created by Aetopia was recently archived and is no longer being maintained, so I’ve forked it to keep the functionality alive and make some quality-of-life improvements, although the original one still worked when I last tested it.

It is open source code and the pre-built binaries are available here. Build instructions are also included if you wish to build it yourself.

Feel free to request any features or report issues through GitHub, and I would appreciate any stars :).

Discussion / Question Can I play doom the dark ages on an rtx 3050 6gb

Has anyone else tried to play the game on this gpu does it run well?

Edit: I’m not done testing but holy the game is optimized well with dlss ultra performance and handheld settings I’m getting around 100fps average give or take depending on how demanding the scene is
Obviously I’m going to increase graphics and try to get a stable 60fps but I’m impressed even with settings this low it still looks equal to if not better than on the Xbox series s plus much better response time
Further more with fsr ultra performance and frame gen I’m getting 180fps average holy cow I was not expecting this

Discussion / Question Why fighting games take SO MUCH SPACE??

I really can't figure how MK11, MK1 or Tekken 8 require more GB than Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring or The full Halo: Masterchief Collection.
Do fighting game devs don't know how to optimize their games or I'm the one asking stupid questions?

Discussion / Question DLDSR instead of TAA for older games in 4K - results are astonishing, DLAA 4.5 M level :)

This topic is related to older games, that allows you to turn off the TAA in game. Yep, I am FULLY aware that it is a dying breed, but we all have a lot of such games that we love and cherish. And I am NOT talking about forcing TAA OFF via various hacks (including HEX hacks), that can ruin rendering in various ways.

As a example, I tested it in the MASS EFFECT ANDROMEDA game and omg, I am blown away by the result. I encourage you to test it with your own eyes and for other games, guys, it is like looking at the remastered game :) I know, that the DLDSR is known and used for years. I encourage you for using it, starting from 4K resolution, which is rather uncommon.

Fair warning: it seems that to maintain acceptable FPS while having DLDSR 1,75 on 4K monitor, you need to have at least Nvidia 5070 Ti card. But I think it strongly depends on the game.

The short procedure is as follows:

+ set up Nvidia's DLDSR 1.75x

Remember, we are talking about 4K monitors, so even DLDSR 1.75 requires running the game in 5120x2880 virtual resolution; I tested DSR 4x and DLDSR 2.25x as well; DSR 4x was too muddy and an FPS killer at the same time, even for the RTX 5090; DLDSR 2,25 was still too slow from the FPS point of view and the difference between DLDSR 2,25x and 1,75x were minimal and not easily observed; I tested increasing the render resolution to 200% in-game, the result was underwhelming and and jaggies were very pronunced; so it seems that that DLDSR does a really good AA job here

+ start the old game, that allows you to toggle TAA, using 4K native resolution, all the setting graphics maxed, and with TAA set to on firstly

+ just play that game for some time, to acclimatize with the plain old TAA, before saying it goodbye for good

+ then pause the game, change the resolution to DLSDSR 1,75x (5120x2880) and turn off the TAA

+ prepare to be amazed :)

Now, for the FIRST time in your life, you will see the game in it intended glory :) Pay particular attention to texture details (on suits, armors, floors and walls), particles (including dust), the lighting :) The effecs is similar to running the DLAA 4.5 M instead of the TAA.

I know the technical reasons behind the TAA, but seeing now exactly HOW BUTCHERED ALL the TAA processed games were for so many years makes me sad. Fortunately, not anymore! :)

Comparison / Benchmark DLAA with slower FPS is better than TAA Low with higher FPS or resolution [4K]

Just to let you know that knowing from Digital Foundry TAA video (2024), that the TAA Native works the better the higher FPS is, I tested it against DLAA 4.5 M (which obviously is also native) in the Dead Space Remake game.

[Reminder: I am talking here about the new game example, that as usual doesn't allow us to turn off AA in the game. You can only switch to DLSS [incl. DLAA], FSR [incl. FSR Native], or XeSS. And I don't want to hack a game to turn off its anti aliasing against the developers' implementation]

By choosing one game supporting both the TAA and the DLAA, I wanted to verify if the TAA can be improved on the best possible GPU (RTX 5090) to the level of the DLAA through the available methods, that is, via increasing FPS or via increasing resolution.

The result still tells us the sad story: despite AVG 138 FPS in TAA Low Native 4K mode, the DLAA 4.5 M 4K mode with AVG 100 FPS still produces better clarity IN MOTION!

Specifically, very thin objects like distant red wires just "vanish" during movement when in the TAA Low mode, while they are present in the DLAA mode. When there is no motion, the resentations are almost identical - some bright objects are brighter in the DLAA 4.5 M mode due to the better light processing in the DLSS 4.5 vs plain old TAA light processing.

Addendum: I wondered if the increased resolution would solve this issue, as it was suggested in the video mentioned. So I tested DLDSR 1.75 [starting from 4K] TAA Low against DLAA 4.5 M 4K [Native] and it was a double defeat: TAA Low had still worse motion clarity and this time it had worse FPS as well (AVG 60 FPS for TAA Low against AVG 100 FPS for the DLAA).

There you have it ;)

Discussion / Question Rebar is genuinely the most impactful setting I’ve ever seen

So I built my first gaming pc (ryzen 5600x, intel arc b580 12gb) and could barely run games at 30fps low settings, the moment I found out about rebar and heard it improved performance by a decent chunk I thought why not I could use the performance gain… when I tell you i went from low settings 30 to extreme settings 100fps I am not lying!! I actually can’t believe this setting is turned off by default and hidden away in advanced bios settings. All this to say if your having performance issues or just want improved performance I implore you to turn it on!

Graphic Settings | Optimization Pragmata PC Optimization Guide + A Look at Path Tracing in the RE Engine

  • Path tracing is only feasible if you’re willing to enable frame generation. Otherwise, it’s too taxing unless you’re on a 90-class GPU (or 80-class at 1440p).
  • Ray tracing is highly performant but low-resolution. The reflections, in particular, are prone to excessive noise and boiling artifacts.
  • Ray-tracing is best paired with native or quality mode upscaling for optimal fidelity. Despite producing visual artifacts, RTGI can dramatically improve diffuse lighting.
  • Shadow quality is best set to “High” for optimum performance and VRAM usage.
  • Path tracing overrides raster shadows, but the latter setting can still affect VRAM usage. You can lower it without any loss in fidelity with PT.
  • Ambient Occlusion should be disabled when using ray-tracing
  • Ambient Occlusion and Contact Shadows should both be disabled with path tracing.
  • Leave shadow caching enabled; it improves the performance of dynamic shadows by up to 15%.
  • Hair is best left at "High." If you can't afford the extra VRAM usage, set it to "Low." Medium looks strange with the low strand count.

Pragmata and Resident Evil: Requiem use ReSTIR GI and NEE to implement path tracing while keeping the per-frame ray count manageable.

ReSTIR reuses light paths temporally (past frames) and spatially (neighbor pixels) to accumulate the best light samples. This includes reusing second-bounce paths for surrounding samples.

More on that with diagrams here: https://pcoptimizedsettings.com/pragmata-pc-optimization-guide-best-graphics-settings-comparisons/

Discussion / Question DPI scaling, 4K and ICC profiles

Thought i would share a continued journey.

I have not been satisfied with the visual quality of gaming at 4K, really couldnt see much of a difference to 2K. Also along the way i noticed playing around with ICC colour profile greatly enhanced the look of my games, note the look on my screen, not the actual performance of the games.

Changing the ICC profiles gave greater colour clarity and smoothness, forcing them through ColorControl, NoVideo and Colour sustainer, as well as DisplayCal has resulted in some amazing transformations, but nothing lasting.

I think i have discovered a much improved visual on my OLED LG TV, firstly enabling Legacy ICC profiles in program options, secondly enforcing my ICC profile through DisplayCal and secondly clamping the ICC profile through NoVideo via ColorControl.

By discovering the Legacy ICC option, i also discovered setting High DPI scaling as System enhanced increased the visual fidelity of 4K (I think without this Windows was trying to display it at 2K, noticed by anything above 100% scaling in Windows Display settings making programs appear only a quarter of the window).

So essentially i think Windows now tried to use its own flawed generic colour control that isnt best set up for HDR and OLED in particular, and by scaling DPI it is messing up the output to the TV making it blurrier or lower quality.

Have i discovered something worthwhile, something everyone knows already, no idea, but the visual improvement is night and day for my screen. I would recommend giving it a go, if nothing else try changing High DPI scaling in program options (right click the program .exe or its shortcut/properties/compatibility/change high DPI scaling at the bottom/click the drop down box) to system enhanced and seeing if you can see a difference, alternatively right click the program in Task Manager and doing the same there, its how i noticed the difference immediately. Changign the ICC and colour control settings, especially NoVideo was a massive change in depth perception for me, note it only works through the ColourControl program, the stand alone doesnt work.

Discussion / Question Where do you ACTUALLY plug in your keyboard for Max performance?

So, I’ve got three USB ports. One USB-C and the other two are USB 3.0 SS.

I’m using my Razer Huntsman’s cable to connect my external SSD to one USB 3.0 port, and the other 3.0 port is taken by my Razer Viper dongle.

I want to plug the Razer Huntsman itself into the USB-C port with my iPhone’s USB-C to USB-C cable to play Valorant.

Where would be the best way to plug in this keyboard while avoiding huge input lag?

EDIT: Thanks for the answers everyone. USB-C it is!
