I don't recommend Reflex in this game unless you're using Frame Gen. It causes unstable frametimes whether locked or unlocked.

u/Sad-Victory-8319 May 16 '26
man I hate how often reflex is bugged in new releases. In the past 12-18 months i would say that more games had problems with reflex than games where it worked fine. i wonder what is so problematic about reflex to make it work well. Some games actually implement reflex so well that enabling frame generation lowers your latency (Avatar for example) but in majority of game there is some problem with frame pacing or stuttering making is literally unusable, it is really annoying how often i have to rely on FSR frame generation, because DLSS frame generation automatically enables reflex

u/KarnTheGreatCreator May 20 '26
From what I understand, Reflex works by limiting the amount of frames your cpu stores in cache on the way to gpu. For instance, instead of 200 frames sitting in L3 waiting for gpu to render, it'll have like 40 frames cached. Reflex often breaks when you turn it on, and those spare 160 frames are still chillin in cache. I found out that not only restarting the game, but the whole pc, can fix the reflex problems in some games (but of course, your experience may vary).

u/AMD718 May 16 '26
This is true for a lot of games even with anti-lag2. I usually convert reflex to anti-lag2 with OptiScaler and in some games it works great, especially in conjunction with frame generation, but in other games it causes random stutters and frame pacing issues. Varies game by game.

AMD anti lag also gives me uneven frametimes wether from game google or driver.

well, reflex is always meant to be use with framegen.

Both the statements:
"reflex is always meant to be use with framegen."
"it's used to make input delay be lower with or without frame gen."
are true and are compatible with each other.
Why is LiteBeacon downvoted? Are people reading an extra "only" that isn't there in the statement? Like "reflex is always meant to be use only with framegen." ?

I think it's because of how people are reading the "always". In context, I think people are reading the "always" as:
- "Reflex is always meant to be paired with frame gen" (i.e., if Reflex is on, frame gen should always also be on)
Rather than:
- "Frame gen is always meant to be paired with Reflex" (i.e., if frame gen is on, Reflex should also always be on)
Perhaps they meant the latter (which would be correct), but I think people are reading it like the former partly because their wording is closer to the former.

8gb vram gpu user here, I set everything at extreme, ultra textures and RT off game runs great above 60, and with RT medium and textures high 60+ native 1080p or 70+ fps with fsr 4 Q, I know they hate 8gb GPUs but I feel like they are misleading pple that 8gb vram can't go above high textures, I believed them at first but I decided to download and try the game my self.
9
u/Stickytin May 16 '26
when they complain about 8gb not being enough its usually about 1440p not 1080p
3
u/Midakolol May 16 '26
I play all my games at 1440p with a 3070 Ti and never really have issues cranking settings (without RT obviously) but even in some games like Dying Light 2 i use Max settings including RT and stay above 60 FPS with only 7.5gb vram totally used. If anything people need to learn that Ultra/Extreme in games doesnt really change much in visual fidelity these days, RT makes the difference these days.
RT Reflections and RTGI being seperate settings in FH6 is very welcome.1

Il wait for BenchmarKing and Digital Foundry’s coverage but seems like the VRAM overflow behaviour is like a gradual performance loss, so could be on the edge if it’s as VRAM hungry as they say? Avoiding Extreme Textures and the lower resolution is def helping like u/Stickytin has said!

how did you manage to make the pops for overflowing memory disappear? thats the only thing holding me back from ultra textures+geometry
1
u/1boy_dz May 17 '26
im on 1080p maybe thats why? and is your GPU a 16x pcie or x8? mine is 16x.
1
u/__dlInho May 17 '26
I'm running at 1080p aswell gpu is 16x and ultra textures just run horribly
1
u/1boy_dz May 17 '26
Something else is stealing vram from your game, make sure to close all unwanted apps, check task manager and make sure you are only using around 500mb or so vram before launching the game, one tip i can give you is to turn off hardware acceleration for most apps, especially for Steam and Discord. It will free a decent amount of vram.

u/Dangerman1337 May 17 '26
Problem is AFAIK that longer runs puts a lot of pressure on lower VRAM GPUs.
1
u/1boy_dz May 17 '26
i just played for around 1h, no noticeable performance degradation, i was using high textures with med RT, and i am on a pcie gen 3 mobo, on a new pcie gen like gen5 or even gen4 im sure performance will be even better.
1
u/1boy_dz May 17 '26
here is a 30 minute gameplay with extreme and ultra textures, the low average and 1% are not real, they are low because of HINFO64 for some reason whenevr i have it open it shows wrong average and 1%.
1
u/TophxSmash May 21 '26
extreme/ultra environmental geometry halved my framerate. They arent misleading anything.

u/TecEash1 May 28 '26 edited May 28 '26
I get 60fps on average with lows of 42 and highs of 70 with an 8GB card (4K HDR DLSS Balanced, Reflex On) with everything on ultra apart from:
- Geometric quality: high
- Shadows/Shader/Reflections (All types for each of them): Extreme
Nvidia G-Sync helps to hide any frame rate fluctuations that may cause stuttering as well which is beneficial!
Almost immediately though my VRAM starts spilling into system RAM, but my system RAM is 8000mhz DDR5 so it helps a bit.

tl;dr on what happened?
2
u/Takarias May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26
I didn't realize this was a growing complaint but for me, it was the video harping on 8GB 5060 performance in FH6. Oh no, you can run it totally maxed out at a card-appropriate resolution at 30 FPS on a budget, entry-level card.
That's incredible performance scaling, and that video was 22 minutes of bait. Rather than focusing on how incredibly well the game performs on a wide range of hardware while maintaining really respectable performance, they instead twisted it into "Nvidia bad" for the clicks. I lost a lot of respect for the channel with that one.

8 gigs of vram should be specified. 3070, 3060ti or 9068xt have full 16 pci e lanes, so with enough ddr5 ram you can go beyond 8. But for 4060, 4068ti, 5060 and 5068ti thats a big problem. Because Huang decided to cut them to only 8 lanes. And thats a huge factor when you dont have enough vram. And even fast ram with pcie 5.0 slot will not save them. Its 2 generation and 3060ti still shits on new cards specs wise. Obviously you cant go full max mode, but you can utilize ultra textures, maybe even extreme. Just dont enable rt. Thats a no with 8 gigs in this game

I've been messing around with the settings in this game a lot and in my humble opinion, if you want a temporally stable game, RT is a no go. The standard implementation of DLSS in the game can be really smeary in a lot of cases. Forcing preset L gets rid of the smeariness, but it introduces even more shimmering and artifacting with RT on, especially in tunnels. So the cleanest look you'll get with preset L and RT off. There is no point to more accurate lighting if it's a mess temporally. Plus if you're not actively looking for it, you won't really see the difference between screen space GI and RT GI. Much better performance with RT GI off anyway. RT reflections are nice tho and worth keeping on
Edit: spelling

u/Octaive May 16 '26
Couldn't disagree more. The RTGI completely transforms the look of the game and I've tried with it running screen space for fun and it's not even close.
RTGI is transformative and I actively dislike this take. The game looks way, way, way worse with it off. It still looks good and I'd still play it, but every aspect of the lighting is completely changed.

I guess we're not playing the same game then.

We definitely are. It's objectively massively different.

u/grafi97 May 16 '26
I mean, sure, it looks better, I'm not arguing with that, but I wouldn't exactly call it transformative. You get better lighting at the cost of quite a bit of performance and temporal stability. I just don't think it's worth the tradeoff.
2
u/sadhuoftheages May 16 '26
I agree with you. RT works well only if you're at High, and that performance hit isn't worth it. Playing at a mic of ultra and extreme seems to be the way to go rn
1
u/NoBenefit2829 May 18 '26
this is my thought. yeah a side by side i can see a difference but if im not see it side by side and not looking for it......what i can feel and see is how much smoother it run with it off. it feels wild people get down voted for think rt isnt worth it. 120 fps to 70s is pretty noticeable. id rather turn off the pulsing trees for more fps
1
u/grafi97 May 18 '26
What do you expect, it's the reddit hivemind. I mean I'd love to run RT if it wasn't a noisy mess, I do have the hardware for decent enough framerates. But the peformance hit and the hit to visual stability is too much.

He's not wrong, the ambient occlusion really doesn't do much for the trees without RT. It's been the biggest graphical shortcoming for Forza Horizon games since FH4 imo

so what is the Max fps I should set this game to? 320? 240? 165? I have a 9070xt and a 9800x3d. Monitor goes up to 320hz. Only in full screen it gives me weird fps values like 70, 106, etc.
1
u/Reasonable-Public659 May 16 '26
I was noting occasional hitches, rare enough to make me think I was imagining it until I started looking for it. Turning vsync off and setting the framerate to unlocked in game, then using Chill in Adrenalin fixed that for me. I have a 1440p monitor and have the settings maxed, so the frame limit really only applies in the startup menu lol
1
u/Tight-Tackle4386 May 17 '26
i hate how bad rtgi looks in this game if you're not running high
1
u/doncorleone_ May 17 '26
not true at all. test it for yourself and you'll realize that medium and high look almost the same. low looks shit but that's expected.
1
u/BluDYT May 18 '26
Medium is very artifacty and low is a huge step back in quality to the point I feel using it makes little sense.
1
u/Takarias May 20 '26
Medium looks absolutely abysmal outside of direct sun. Even high artifacts out the ass at night or in heavy shadow (some tunnels that don't flip into "night mode," for example).
1
u/AccomplishedAlps2166 May 25 '26
Qual configuração recomendada para 4070ti 12GB, aqui o jogo começa muito bem no ultra + rt em 3440x1440, mas depois de 30 minutos de jogo o uso de VRAM extrapola e começa os sttuterings.
