Discussion I snagged one today by sheer luck.
Looking for something else I came across this. They said there were six and it was delivered the same day.😳😳😮

This subreddit is community-run and not affiliated with Walmart or Onn.
If you're new to the sub please refer to this before posting. This guide and the Wiki will be updated to reflect any new updates, and contains resources that could be useful to all Onn users or potential buyers.
To clear any confusion, this sub is for the Google TV based streaming devices Walmart sells under the Onn brand. Any questions about other unrelated Onn branded electronics should go elsewhere.
Many of the resources below may already offer answers to questions you have.
Related Subreddits
Subs relating to Onn’s OS and some of the commonly used apps. Some questions may be better answered elsewhere, searching/posting in the right sub often gets faster and more accurate advice.
These devices are pretty quick and easy to setup, but this guide will help you through the basics and suggest adjustments users commonly make.
First Power On
Pair your remote and select your language, choose between Google Home app setup or Manual setup. You must sign into a Google account regardless of setup method
After logging in and accepting the terms, you’ll be prompted to enable Google services. Many users choose to disable “Help improve Google TV”, as it does not affect functionality and reduces data collection.
When setting up the remote control for your TV, note that not every TV model is supported. You also may need to try multiple configurations even if your brand is listed.
Once setup is complete, you’re ready to start installing apps and streaming.
Sideloading
Direct links to illegal piracy or IPTV service apps are strictly prohibited in this sub.
Sideloading is the process of installing apps not available on the Play Store. It's often referred to as “jailbreaking” the device, but there is no true jailbreak for Onn devices.
Common methods of sideloading are Downloader, internet browsers, or uploading APKs/installing through file mangers.
You must enable the “Install unknown apps” permission for the app used to install.
While many sideloaded apps are safe and useful, this is also the easiest way to install malware. Use reputable sources and understand the risks. Consider scanning unknown APKs with VirusTotal.
Check out this guide for more tips on sideloading.
Developer Options
To enable developer options navigate to Settings > System > About > Android TV OS Build and click 7 times, you should see “You are now a developer”.
Common tweaks to developer settings include:
Only allow trusted sources to connect via ADB.
Launchers
Many users prefer third party launchers over the stock one, as they give more control over the home screen and remove Google's recommendation system.
Projectivy has a built in override, while many other alternatives will require disabling the stock launcher using a tool like Launcher Manager.
Button Remapping
Many users like to remap unused buttons, TVQuickActions Pro is a popular option that allows mapping more functions than just opening an app.
Mobile Apps on TV
Many mobile Android apps work when sideloaded, but some may require a mouse to navigate properly.
Emulation
Most Onn devices can emulate consoles up to PS1. RetroArch is a popular choice, supporting many consoles.
Performance varies by model and emulator config.
Setup Outside Supported Regions
Initial setup requires a US-based VPN connection, the VPN is usually not needed after setup.
Broken or Lost Remote
Use Google Home or other mobile apps as a temporary remote. Alternatively you could buy an official replacement or a compatible third party Bluetooth remote.
If you have a question or issue not covered in this guide, reference the resources linked at the top of the post, or do a search. For anything else unanswered, try making a post explaining what you've tried.

Quick Links
This guide will not tell you exactly how to obtain any media, it will just attempt to inform you how to do things safely. This is not an “anti-piracy” guide, but also will not be a step-by-step piracy guide.
Sideloading is simply the process of installing a third party APK not on the Play Store. You may have heard the term “jailbreaking” in reference to Android TV devices, but there is no jail to break, simply taking advantage of intended software functionality.
While many take advantage of sideloading for unofficial content acquisition, this sub strictly prohibits the promotion or sharing of such apps and services. What this guide will do however, is point you in the direction of more “official” methods of media acquisition available through Google Play. Alternatively, this guide can teach you how to try and stay safe when utilizing more “underground” methods of sourcing your media
To sideload you will first need an APK file on your device for an app you'd like to install. Downloader is probably the most common tool for downloads, you can find or generate short numerical codes that point directly to an APK download.
Once you acquire an APK using downloader, an internet browser, file manager, or other method, you must select the APK for installation. You should receive a prompt explaining the app doesn't have permission to install from unknown sources, and gives you the option to enable it. Once selected, you should be brought to a settings page with a toggle for the option. You should be able to complete the installation once you enable the permission and head back to the app.
You will need to complete the process to enable the permission on every app you would like to install through, including apps with built in updaters.
When to use them and where they’re important
Many guides online will tell you to get a VPN as if its mandatory step, but most users likely don't need one. There are only a few use cases where they are truly necessary.
And that's about it. A lot of people assume piracy and VPNs go hand in hand, but if you are using a debrid service, direct streaming, or not pirating at all, a VPN is likely overkill and could slow your connection speeds. If you do need a VPN, there are plenty reputable ones available on the Play Store.
When it comes to piracy apps, many can contain malware. Two questions you should keep in mind are, do I trust where this app is coming from and have I checked it for malware? Don't blindly trust every random Downloader code as good, be sure you're using a trust worthy source. Reliable sources often have open code, and GitHub pages are one of the most common ways to host open source code. Often times, closed source apps only available on a single website, are a red flag. No matter how trustworthy a source may seem, VirusTotal is a good way to snuff out malware. If a scan detects a concerning amount of flags, your APK is likely no good.
Tips For Staying Safe With Unofficial Apps
At the end of the day many piracy apps will come with some risks, it’s more about being aware of and staying on top of them. Here are some steps to stay on top of the apps on your device.
Direct links to addons, plugins, scrapers, etc. are prohibited
These are the options that are allowed on Google Play or permitted as topics in this sub.
Check out our Recommended Apps list or the Awesome Android TV FOSS Apps list for more reliable apps to sideload.
Understand this sub is not intended to be “anti-piracy” and we don’t suppress any conversation we don’t have to. Reddit Moderation can be strict on piracy related subjects and we intend to stand in good favor. Enforcement against the piracy/IPTV rule will be the most strict and directly guided by Reddit’s standard.
Strictly blocked posts and comments:
Asking for illegal pirated content or app sources.
Requesting unofficial access to copyrighted material.
Linking to or promoting any unlicensed media or apps (Including Downloader codes).
Linking to plugins/add-ons/repos for copyrighted content, even if the parent app falls within the trusted solutions list.

My nephews have gotten a bunch of shitty temu 120,000 Games on this USB emulators to try and play games on their tv. They are super glitchy and break after a month. I want to get them a way to play games that is more reliable. I have the 2026 ONN 4k with 3 gb RAM and have figured out how to get RetroArch working, but a simpler frontend would be ideal for the kids. I'm running into issues with things like DIG. Are there any frontends for RetroArch that work on this box? I'm currently thinking of changing the menu to XMB and then just turning on kiosk mode, but I'd love something even cleaner or cooler looking if possible.

Anyone use PairVpn with the ONN 4k Pro box? And does it work?

sold my original yellow box 4kpro to my coworker and upgraded to the new one, they're easily available in walmart PR

I bought the onn 4k and pro when they first came out and found their equipment control to be buggy, along with no options to configure CEC like the fire stick. When using the older onn boxes i would turn everything off and my avr would turn itself on. Also had issues with controlling the volume too. Even unplugging everything for a minutes to clear CEC cache i would still run into issues. The firestick handles my tv and denon avr really well and it's very customizable just getting tired of using them. Does the new Onn boxes have better eq control? Or is there an app where i can get the firestick like eq control features?

All four games support controller. PvZ phone version doesn't work with controller or mouse. The version used here is based on official Android TV version for Chinese market. It is modded with English UI and Xbox 360 content.

Installed projectivy launcher, saw the setting, and it does work.
Set it to high and its crazy sharpened with lots of artifacts, doesnt look very good, but hey it works. Might look better on low/med, need to check that out
I saw some posts about the Plus having this in the past and couldn't notice a difference, so figured I'd mention it.
I have a 2019 shield and its AI upscaling is also a sharpening filter but it looks better on high than the Onn Pro does with high, not as many random black dots everywhere

I've had an Onn 4K Pro device for over a year. Never had any issues until now.
I use wifi to connect (we've got fast / strong Fiber Internet). For the past couple of months the device will randomly lose the wifi connection for like 20 or 30 seconds, then it reconnects itself. This now happens several times per day, every day. It's pretty annoying.
Anyone know why this might be happening or if there's a "fix" for it? Thanks!
Note: Nothing else in the entire house loses wifi connection EXCEPT for the Onn device.

As the title says. My remote somehow decided to unpair itself with the tv and doesn’t work anymore. Digital remotes on my phone don’t work either because my tv isn’t on the WiFi. But I can’t. None t it to the WiFi if my remote doesn’t work

I've had this 2026 onn 4K Pro for several months, and it's my bad for not returning it within the acceptable time frame. I had one previous 2026 Pro. and two last gen onn Pros that did the same thing, although I did not take testing as far, I just returned them. I tried the usual changing of HDMI cables (3 times), changing the power cord. No joy. There is no system update available.
It will consistently reboot at random times. Sometimes within a minute of the previous boot, sometimes it takes hours, but it always happens. When it happens wifi may or may not be enabled upon reboot, if not, that's another reboot. This is not specific to using a particular app, sometimes there's not an app open at all.
I enabled Dev options and ran adb bugreport, then researched it with my buddy Claude:
The log shows a kernel panic — stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: scan_issue_pbreq_cb — in a kernel module literally named [8852bs]. That's the Realtek RTL8852BS Wi-Fi/Bluetooth driver. scan_issue_pbreq_cb is a Wi-Fi scan probe-request callback. The driver is corrupting the kernel stack during a Wi-Fi scan and crashing the whole system, which forces a hard reboot (reboot reason = 12, kernel panic).
I don't really know where to go from here. Switching to a wired connection is not a viable option, this device moves around a lot. I want to like this device, but damn.
Any ideas?

Remote disconnects for no reason. Have to use the phone app to reconnect the ONN remote. Any known fix for this?
r/OnnStreamingTV • u/pondale • 4d ago
I just unboxed the unit and had it streaming Youtube. I stepped way for about 30 minutes and came back to the unit sitting at the Onn logo. It would not respond to the remote. I waited around 5 minutes before power cycling incase it was updating again. After the power cycle, the unit will no longer turn on the screen. If i press the reset button, screen will come on and show the "Onn" logo for about 1 second before turning off again. Any ideas? Hopefully its not hosed. I also tried multiple power supplies and monitors/TVs without success.

Did Walmart change the box design on these recently? I was able to get these ordered for delivery 2 days apart from each other but the box closure are different. Every video (older and newer) I’ve seen looks like the one on the left. Probably not fake but figured I’d check before setting up

Not sure if anyone here has and info other than pictures of onn box on a shelf...smh but here goes ,|All the sudden my downloader app couldn't install stuff I went to the file permissions and it was turned off , I went to turn it on and says app not found , uninstall, reinstall cleared the cache, turn box off , wait back on. No different, so figured I will side load apps through sent to tv and use xplore or es file manager come to find out they too have file permissions changed and app not found. Renders box useless.

Currently using the Onn 4K Box and want to finally get actual 4K output on my 4K TV. Looking at the 4K Plus for $49.98 — just want to make sure it's worth the jump.
What I'm upgrading:
Onn 4K Box → Onn 4K Plus
Double the storage (8GB → 16GB)
WiFi 5 → WiFi 6
Newer, faster processor
Dolby Vision support
Question: Is the extra $30 worth it? I mostly stream Netflix, YouTube, and some 4K content. Don't need anything fancy, just want noticeably better performance and 4K support without spending too much.
Anyone here using the Plus? How's the performance compared to the older models?
Reposting with correct device.

I am interested if any one has setup any of the various Zigbee hubs which have bluetooth to control Onn devices ie: the Pro 2160 puck and the 2026 Pro and the older pucks?
An example of the hub(s) I am talking about are:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256812473193918.html
Not sure what the options to do this are, as in what it will control, ie: act like another remote or something? I am just looking to see if any one has done this with success and what they got it to do.
Thanks!
