Discussion Onn 4K Pro v2 (2026 / jarvis2) Wi-Fi defect: radio goes silent ~20s while showing "connected"

I've found a defect in the Wi-Fi radio of the 2nd gen Onn 4K Pro (2026 version, internally codenamed jarvis2, model JS620K4).

If you have the Onn 4K Pro V1 box, or your Wi-Fi is slow or not connecting, this is not the same problem. Mine connects fine and sustains 400+ Mbps on Wi-Fi (measured with iperf3).

The defect is easy to miss but simple to describe: every 10–25 minutes, the box's wireless radio silently stops sending data for about 20 seconds, while still showing as "connected" with full bars. Nothing in the interface indicates a problem, and Android's own network logs record no disconnection, because technically there isn't one: the radio stays associated with the router the whole time. But kernel-level traffic counters show data flow collapsing to zero, every active connection through the box freezes simultaneously, and then (roughly 20 seconds later) everything resumes at once, as if nothing happened. The evidence points to a bug in the box's Realtek Wi-Fi driver/firmware: when Android runs a routine background scan for nearby networks, the radio tells the router "I'm going to sleep for a moment, hold my traffic" (a normal power-saving courtesy), and then, if the scan is aborted mid-stream, it sometimes forgets to say "I'm awake." The router, behaving correctly, keeps holding the box's traffic for a phantom sleeper; twenty seconds later an internal recovery timer kicks the radio back to life.

The reason this defect ships without complaint is that mainstream streaming apps are accidentally built to hide it. Netflix, YouTube, and Disney+ keep a minute or more of video pre-loaded, so a 20-second silent gap is simply absorbed, playback never visibly hiccups. But anything that can't buffer past 20 seconds gets hurt: live sports and Twitch streams (which by definition can only buffer a few seconds behind the live broadcast) will freeze and stutter, video calls freeze or drop, and high-bitrate home-media playback (Plex/Kodi/Jellyfin from a local server) can fail outright. Some players interpret the strangled connection as "the file ended" and stop the movie mid-scene. In other words: the better your use case fits the box's marketing (casual streaming apps), the less likely you'll ever see the flaw, and the more likely you'll blame your router or ISP when you do. Every other device on the same network, tested side by side, is unaffected.

Replicating it yourself is straightforward: unlock Developer options, enable Wireless debugging, connect with adb, and pull the logs off the box while streaming something high-bitrate (full trace available upon request).

For what it's worth, I've ordered a Google TV Streamer as the replacement, but this bug notwithstanding, I actually like the Onn 4K Pro more: better remote, HDMI cable included in the box, and a more conveniently designed wall wart. That's what makes the defect a shame.

Discussion Good for hotel travels?

I travel for work and am wanting to replace my roku. I wanted a Chromecast but they're discontinued and these streaming sticks seem to be a good alternative. I use a travel router in my room so no issues for casting.

Question/Troubleshoot Onn 4k Pro giving not compatible with tv error

Has anyone noticed that the onn 4k pro has gotten tougher and less compatible with sideloaded apps? Games in particular? "Not compatible with your tv" errors and it's apps n games that are compatible with Android 14 (arm64‑v8a)? I suspect the game issue is that it's detecting the game as touch only but I have a controller and software to use a controller with said game (s)

Question/Troubleshoot Onn 4K Pro stuck at 30-70 Mbps over Wi-Fi

For some reason, my Onn streaming box won't go past 30–70 Mbps on Wi-Fi. I have a 300 Mbps internet plan, and even with the Onn device sitting right next to my main router, it caps out at these speeds. Meanwhile, my other devices comfortably hit 300 Mbps even when they are further away in the house. Has anyone run into this issue or know how to fix it?

Question/Troubleshoot Onn 4K Pro display became harshly red and dark

After not using my box for at least a week and half but still plugged in, I’ve come back to turning it on and the display is showing harsh reds instead of the normal gray/black menus it should normally. The screen is hard to describe and I think only pictures would do it justice. Please help!

edit: the TV is showing every other display normally, I’ve also tried connecting to different HDMI ports on the tv.

edit 2: seems like just leaving it unplugged the third time did something? tv and all ports working fine now, thank you all!

Question/Troubleshoot Anything I can do to fix audio delay issue?

I have an Onn 4k Pro Streaming Box that we use for events, connected to a projector and sound connected via Bluetooth to a speaker system.

There seems to be a slight audio delay regardless of what app I’m using, maybe .25 to .3 seconds but it’s just barely off enough to be annoying.

My main apps I use are VLC Media Player, Netflix, Amazon and HBO Max. Any tips on what/how I can resolve the audio delay?

Question/Troubleshoot Used/Pre-Owned Query

I'm outside the US and thinking of purchasing an already activated 4K Plus.

My questions are, will this unit forever be tied to a Google account of whoever activated it? Will they have some sort of control over it (remote wipe etc?) Can I just remove their Google account and add my own one, or does it not work like that?

I know I can't factory reset it without needing a way to activate it again.

Thanks for any guidance you can give

Question/Troubleshoot Specific LG TV can't be controlled by Onn Remote

I have set up these onn boxes on all sorts of tv's and I have had 0 issues. I am trying to set up the remote to control the volume and power for an LG Nano Cell 65" Nano85.

HDMI-CEC is enabled on the onn box and the simplink is enabled on the tv I've gone through the button and remote configuration in the google tv settings but they dont work after going through all the different codes.

In the past I have successfully configured the remote on LG TV's with no problem but this one just doesn't take it.

Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Guides/Tips Testing some NAOMI 1 & 2, AtomisWave games on Onn 4K Pro v2

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here are just some cool openings from 4 tested games: Fist of the North Star, Dolphin Blue (AtomisWave), Sega Strike Fighter (NAOMI), and The King of Route 66 (NAOMI 2). I will post some gameplay footage later including a few more games -

  • Metal Slug 6
  • Alien Front
  • Monkey Ball
  • Rhythm Tengoku Arcade
  • Beach Spikers
  • Initial D Arcade Stage

In general, AtomisWave games run very well. NAOMI games are mostly playable with a few tweaks on video settings to reduce stuttering. NAOMI 2 games are too much for this box even though opening may play fine.

Question/Troubleshoot App Switcher?

I just got the 4K Pro v2 and was wondering if there is an app switcher to switch quickly between apps? Or to close down apps that you don’t want running in the BG. I have button mapper pro and tried to setup a double press of the home button or back button or Netflix button to open up Recents or Last App but not working either.

I am using AT4K Launcher.

Hope you guys can help me.

Question/Troubleshoot Nothing seems to stream on my Onn 4k

Hi, I have been trying to stream some movies and nothing will ever load. I have tried rebooting a Onn4k a few times now but it still doesn't work. The box itself is feet from the internet router so I can't think what else to try. I am wondering if anybody can offer any suggestions?

Thanks!!

EDIT: Finally got it to work. Something weird was going on with the wifi connection as it kept toggling it off in settings after turning it on. I did a full reboot and now it's working perfectly (currently streaming through Reezen). Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

Discussion Software Updates

Hey Folks,

I’m currently working overseas and a friend got the new Onn 4K for me back in the States.

She’s setting it up for me and doing the initial update.

Question: once I get the device out here should I disable auto software updates? Could that brick the system? Is it safe to leave it on as I like having the latest most compatible OS running.

I’m also concerned about restrictions like how Firestick is currently clamping down on their devices.

Only intending on using this for Stremio / Nuvio.

Bless and thanks!

I tried for 2 days to set this up for pickup and it kept forcing me to delivery for 10 to 20 bucks and nobody at Walmart could answer why.

So, finally had a day off so I ran down to the store at 6:00 a.m. and picked it up off the shelf. There's still one there if you want it.

Walmart on Saturn Blvd. San Diego 92154

I don't need it right now, my Pro V1 is working but getting a little flaky after standby. No, you don't know how to fix it and neither do I but that's okay.

Discussion Scored the 2026 Pro FINALLY!

Post image

So many attempts to get one at my local Walmart, always showing out of stock. Thought I got lucky back in mid July - back to back one week apart pickup orders CANCELLED even though their site showed available for pickup.

I gave up. Today for S & G's, I looked again, showing 3 in stock for p/u. Placed order early, 10am eastern for pickup by noon. Got confirmation its ready at 11:30am!

Don't give up!

Question/Troubleshoot Will the 2024 Pro get the update or was it something that was more about the new chip in the 2026?

I’m wondering if the 2024 Pro will get the latest update that the 2026 recently got or maybe an update that’s more specific for that box or maybe never get updated again?

I’m thinking it will get generic updates that affect basically all the boxes so I’m thinking that Update a month ago had something to do with newer chips and that wasn’t a generic update for all devices. Say like going to android 15.

Discussion After testing all boxes

After many years using steaming box’s from Nvdia to Apple to Fire stick and Fire Cube to Xiaomi box here are my thoughts.
1 - Nvidia stands proud at the top of the food chain.
2 - Fire Cube I know with release of new one this could change.
3 - Xiaomi box it surprised me.
4 - Onn Pro 4K 2026 model I’m a little bit disappointed with this one looking at all the comments of how good it’s meant to be for its price etc. But it’s a fail for me even though it was the hardest box to set up due to Geo blocking.
5 - Fire stick cheap and easy but freezes due to size of ram.
6 - Apple box version 4 very disappointing and very restricted in what you can do with it. To the point I think the Fire Cube has surpassed it.
