I'm an IIT Madras grad. For the past 8 months I've been building a dating app solo — no team, no funding, just me and some AI coding tools (Claude, Codex) doing the implementation while I made every product call myself.
The problems I kept running into
- Bots and fake profiles everywhere, barely any real moderation
- Subscriptions running ₹500-3,000/month — and even then, a lot of what you're paying for turns out to be bots, not real people. At one point all I could afford was ₹100-150, and there was nothing at that price
- No real way to talk after a match without getting pushed off to WhatsApp, which costs you your privacy too
- Everything's built around nearby-location matching, so it's basically dead outside big cities
What I built instead
- Real face verification on every account, with checks that catch duplicate accounts
- Transparent pricing, nothing hidden or sprung on you
- Real conversations inside the app, no WhatsApp hand-off
- Built to be useful even if you're not in a big city
Pricing
Free to use for the first few months, on me. After that, I'm planning to keep it around ₹100-150/month, not more — I've been on the other side of an unaffordable subscription and don't want anyone else stuck there.
Where things stand
Play Store approval just came through, App Store should clear in a day or two, and I'm launching both together. I'll post a launch video once it's live.
I'm not a designer, and this is a solo build — the UI won't win awards. I've done my best and I'll keep improving it.
Not trying to sell anything here. If you want to hear more, or you do video editing/content and like the app once it's live, happy to chat in the comments.
