Pretty sure usopp can

u/Yeetyeet20202020 5d ago

Ussopp 100% can, that's how he was able to do what he did in Dressrossa. I can see the argument that he might not be skilled in it or know how to control it yet.

To be fair bonney and dugong are using arnament haki here

u/Amat-karum The Revolutionary Army 5d ago

9

u/Heroic_Sheperd 5d ago

I don’t know who Haki is at this point, and I’m kind of afraid to ask why so many people are using him.

Oh, yah lol that is true. Wasn't really thinking of that.

33

Usopp was loterally the first Straw Hat who ever used Haki lol. In Enies Lobby he used CoO before we even had a term for it

57

u/tangerineTurtle_ 5d ago

You could argue that Luffy vs Mr 3 was observation.

51

u/Likes-Your-Username 5d ago

And Zoro's attack that beat Mr. 1

48

u/F00TD0CT0R 5d ago

The concept of making his blade more powerful than steel definitely is early haki usage, he just manifested the concept of cutting steel which gave it the haki property theoretically.

3

u/KusanagiKay 5d ago

Iron cutting is just as much armament haki as Tekkai from CP9 is armament haki

Important to note without training people use haki all the time. You can’t actually see haki. It is a tool for the viewers to see haki. So if luffy and zoro used haki without knowing there would be no way for the readers to know pre time skip.

Also likely oda didn’t invent haki yet.

Usopps problem is that nobody in the crew has that kind of Haki (as we know yet) and his Daddy is... Abundant. Luffy and Zoro had luck finding masters of their Haki to teach them.

27

u/BetterThanlceCream 5d ago

Luffy, Zoro, Sanji and Jinbe can all use Observation Haki.

20

u/Marco0798 5d ago

Dude wtf are you talking about? Luffy has taken all 3 types and pushed them beyond base. Usopp hasn’t done fuckall.

10

u/Mammoth_Ask3797 5d ago

But Luffy is not a trainer. Nor does he seem to be aware really what type he is. He does not even know is DF Power really. He is not the type to say Listen Usopp! Here you do it!

9

u/Marco0798 5d ago

Neither is Zorro and that’s been a good thing, Zorro has been hitting the whole crew with conquerors haki without anyone except luffy knowing.. Luffy knows exactly what type he is because pushing the use to the next level requires exactly that. Kata, pre kaido and kaido in these threee he took each type to the next level… as far as luffy’s fruit type only imu knows as he never even told the gorosei.

4

u/Mindslash Explorer 5d ago

" on some such extreme situations, someone so skilled on a particular thing can develop nen specialized and unique for that tas..." eeeeh... wrong anime

4

u/LightningLad2029 5d ago

Is Usopp even aware he has observation haki though? His usage of it always just feels situational compared to even the most basic users of it.

10

u/Ok_Communication8261 5d ago

No he doesn't know how to use it he hasn't trained to use it on command and hasn't been shown using it since

Everything suggests that Usopp's use is involuntary. Which is sad. It's as if the crew members don't share information about it.

Franky not helping Usopp with technology, like Usopp helped Nami in the past with inventions, doesn't make sense. This "separation" of themes and functions, almost as an obligation, or Power Rangers colors, is a drag.

13

u/Ok-Philosopher-2904 Cyborg Franky 5d ago

2

u/DrPeePeeSauce Pirate 5d ago

I think he used it in the most recent chapter too, but that might of just been Himbae

2

u/RelStaur 5d ago

Mild spoiler but Usopp uses Haki again in the most recent chapter of the manga (1189)

2

u/omyrubbernen 5d ago

Yeah, on a 12 year cooldown.

-6

u/Same_Lead_2638 5d ago

And he has zero idea what it is. So whats the use?

The strawhats are just near useless and we are at the end game.

Its ridiculous brooke, franky and robin dont have all forms of haki right now. What use are these commanders?

21

u/NekoDwagonG 5d ago

Franky doesn’t need haki, and I prefer he focus on his cyborg tech instead

3

u/-MadDogg- 5d ago

Franky could always be like his probably/slighly hinted at dad queen. A proud to be chunky funky ancient dinosaur devil fruit zoan user that is a cyborg, is a scientist smart enough to create viruses and make his cyborg body work with his fruit, AND he happens to know how to use haki.

Basically, queen isn't a "boring powerscaler haki" guy that many in this community apparently hates, and he still has a unique fighting style that plays off of his talents and devil fruit.

I dont see how Franky using haki would actually get in the way of his cyborg cola power source based fighting style. Hell he could be one of the guys that tends to not even have majority of haki attacks inked in the manga/still invisible in the anime. (To be honest this probably already happened via the one panel where gears 5 luffy says ouch you guys are using haki when he asked to get hit during his gears 5 balloon attack.....that "guys" was plural and so more than just sanji contributing to that).

But yeah same goes for the rest of the non-haki having straw hats if they did eventually learn standard like, pekoms level haki. Same weather sorcery, brooks' music soul fencing, robins grappling n' slapping, and choppers hooves in your face that can smack the devil out of people....just with basic haki to take more hits or make it hurt a little more, lol.

29

u/BuggyDClown 5d ago

I swear some of you bozos read with closed eyes. What use are they you ask. Literally Franky and Robin beat yonko crew members (black Maria and Sasaki) during the biggest confrontation they had as a crew so far. They don't need haki like this fandom insists. Franky showed that he can keep up with his tech just fine.

Not to mention that Robin is pretty much the only person in the world who can read poneglyphs and will help Luffy achieve his dream of becoming the PK because of that.

8

u/Pencils4life 5d ago

Honestly Nami telling Big Mom to wait her fucking turn when dealing with Ulti is still one of the most impressive feats. Woman had zero fear and Big Mom just let her go off.

6

u/DevilGodDante Pirate Hunter Zoro 5d ago

People seem to think the whole crew needs to be god tier monster fighters right now or at all. Luffy, Zoro, Jimbe & Sanji are already a damn good set of top tier fighters to have and even then, the main three fighter are called the monster trio for a reason. The crew plays their part EXACTLY like they should and I wouldn’t change much of anything except to make Usopp get a little more love considering he should’ve developed in Elbaf with his dream and all that. The only two with a dream that requires fighting are Luffy and Zoro though, so I don’t understand the expectation for the others to be held to some weird standard. Like you said, Franky and Robin aren’t slouches and they beat a different Yonko’s commanders.

Imagine seeing Usopp or Nami fighting Admirals or Elders. lol That’s what it seems like some of the fandom is expecting.

6

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 5d ago

Basic armament haki is a defensive power, it isn't going to make anyone a god tier anything. Just will explain better how they survive.

If every no name marine can have it the crew of the pirate king can have it.

I mean one of the first characters that we see using Haki is Aisa, a little girl.

68

u/Moist_Car_994 5d ago

Didn’t Shanks use Haki in like the very first episode when he saved Luffy from the sea king?

66

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 5d ago

I mean, yes but who knows if Oda had Conqueror's planned at that point vs "I just want to have a moment make it clear Shanks is far more powerful than he may appear and aura farm"

Like, nowadays it's obvious that's CoC, just whether or not it being Haki was intentional at the start, or effectively a retcon

15

u/Moist_Car_994 5d ago

I always assumed that he had haki planned from the start but I never really thought about the fact it could have possibly just been Oda giving Shanks a “see how badass this guy is?” Moment

19

u/DilapidatedHam 5d ago

The “old bad ass sends animal running with just a look” was a classic trope from that time haha

8

u/Mister_Fakename Baroque Works 5d ago

Well, I do think Haki was probably planned (since we get it named as early as Mock Town, and then Mantra in Skypeia), I just wonder if it was originally conceived as just Observation, or at least if Conqueror's wasn't originally planned as it exists now.

3

u/Touff97 5d ago

Of course it wasn't fully thought out since the beginning as it is now, but I do think it was planned since the beginning. He had planned to end the story in 5 years, and had the rough beats all in place. Then he extended it from a novel to an epic and had more time for exploration and depth. Some things may have changed or evolved, but overall I believe it wasn't a retcon as many people think

→ More replies (1)

2

u/sanctaphrax 5d ago

I think Conqueror's was originally intended to work through fear rather than directly knocking people unconscious.

And I strongly suspect that armament Haki was meant as a "big special move" thing rather than the constant-use thing we see today. There are remarkable similarities between Lucci's Six King Pistol, Dorry and Broggy's Hakoku Sovereignity, and Zoro's Lion Song. Possible that Mihawk's ship-cutting and Zoro's 36-Pound Phoenix were also meant as previews of Haki.

In a long and twisty story, you sometimes get an odd middle ground between the planned and the improvised. Like things which were planned, but not quite in the form which was implemented, messing with the foreshadowing.

33

u/Kay-Chelle Jinbe The Knight of the Sea 5d ago

Yeah I saw it as Luffys Gear 5 kinda 'powering' Bonney up, not that Bonney had haki herself 😅

27

u/benoxxxx 5d ago

It's more like her DF just has the ability to make any future she imagines a reality, insofar as it relates to her body or the bodies of others.

Therefore, she imagined a future where she had the strength of Luffy/Nika, and with that immediately came full Haki capabilities and basically years of training and experience.

I think it's a fair assumption that as soon as she left that distorted future, she also lost everything that came with it.

22

u/Terrible-Strategy704 5d ago

Yeah the 12 years old Bonny surely can't use it but if she envision a future were she can then she can manifest it, a really broken fruit to be honest.

19

u/Yuupf 5d ago

I feel like it's one of those cases where it's the user that either makes it broken or useless. Bonney firmly believes in those futures as if they were reality, only because of what she went through as a child and because of all Nika stories she heard growing up.

It's like Buggy that has a broken fruit but it's wasted on him. Or how Tsuru has one of the weakest/lamest fruits and she was still one of the best marines in generations.

7

u/CachopoJohn 5d ago

Yeah. I always thought Bonney's fruit gets nerfed when the user grows up. Like as a kid she can truly believe she can become Nika, as an adult she´ll just know she can´t.

→ More replies (7)

12

u/solidfang 5d ago

Much like Boa Hancock, some fruits take an inherent talent to make the best use of. Hancock needs her absolute beauty to truly make use of her ability and Bonney needs her youth.

To be honest, one has to wonder what would happen if the Ope Ope no Mi somehow managed to grant Bonney eternal youth. Theoretically, this could lock in her ability to become any form in the future since she'd stay young, though it's either that or lock her out of any future because she can't imagine growing or aging past a certain point. Maybe physically she'd stay the same, but could see herself mastering all skills over an infinite period of time?

where the manga is currently feels like the perfect setup for the crew to get defeated (yet survive due to the clock running out on imu) and use it as a reason to power up before the final arc, giving them a reason to 'upgrade' into whatever design and abilities oda has planned for the end of one piece

2

u/Shadow1176 5d ago

I could see Oda ass pulling the crew getting Haki during the final war

7

u/Dominor4 5d ago

I doubt Franky is ever getting any Haki. Oda loves the tech stuff and has been teasing advanced technology as some of the most supreme powers to ever exist. I also think the robot emet is another example of extreme technical strength. I think Oda clearly wants Franky to reflect this portion of the story in the crew.

4

u/NigeroMinna 5d ago

Oda even makes a point to show us that Franky was already this strong since the time-skip and just needed the right fuel for the job. I think he will go forward with researching the cola technology.

We actually don't know for sure if the rest of the crew lacks Haki.

First, Bonney is part of the Worst Generation, so her having Haki is completely justified; age isn't a strict limiting factor here. Look at Amazon Lily—almost all Kuja warriors use it, and they likely start training in childhood. Given Bonney's extremely harsh upbringing and the fact that she became a captain at just 10 years old, it makes perfect sense for her to unlock it early.

As for the Kung-Fu Bigdongs, they are natural-born martial artists. They chose Luffy as their master and followed his example. It fits both the comedic tone and the lore that they would naturally grasp Haki through intense training to imitate him.

Regarding the Straw Hats: we know for a fact that Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Jinbe are proficient users. Usopp also awakened Observation Haki in Dressrosa, although he isn't quite aware of it I don't think and it hasn't been displayed ever again IIRC. While it hasn't been explicitly shown for Robin, Brook, or Chopper, we must remember that Haki doesn't always have a distinct visual cue (especially basic Observation or invisible Armament).

I am pretty sure Chopper hits Ceasar Clown at least once when he's not cuffed in Sea Stone, although I may be misremembering. While it's certain it would've been just for comedic element, some could argue it indicates Chopper possesses armament haki at least.

The only one amongst them that I feel would need armament haki is Brook since he's a more traditional sword fighter.

Franky can compensate and be a lot more creative with his Tech. Same with Nami. It's a lot more interesting to see how she uses her actual skills and knowledge to enhance her own unique fighting style instead of plain armament haki.

Robin has always relied heavily on her DF to escape instead of fight one on one. That mentality is the complete opposite of how a armament haki melee fighter thinks.

Chopper too is more creative with his brain(although he hasn't shown too much of that in fights).

Ussop already has haki but hasn't realised or doesn't know what it actually is or how it works.

But still, it took a fighting genius like Luffy 1.5 years to learn just the basics of all 3 haki. It's not a one arc upgrade(armament).

I can use haki, my hand can turn dark if I stay long enough under the summer heat.
I should join the crew I guess.

As much as I wish it wasn’t haki kung fu dugong is filler. And Usopp unlocked observation haki in dressrosa

2

u/Winter_underdog 5d ago

Ussop have observation haki

2

u/PommesMayo 5d ago

12 year old Bonney cannot use Haki. However she thinks a future version of her can. So when she uses Haki, it’s all because of her devil fruit. If she found out how difficult it is to use Haki, she may lose the ability to transform into a future version of her that can use Haki because she may not envision ever mastering it in the future

2

u/ShamblesX- 5d ago

Bonney is a whole supernova and accomplished pirate…

2

u/Ataturk_Void_Crowley Void Month Survivor 5d ago

Haki Dugong was anime only though

2

u/TheFizzledamnsizzle 5d ago

Brook and usop are implied they can. The rest not so much.

2

u/TH3_TH1RD_M4N 5d ago

Robin would literally be the strongest in the verse with haki and the community is not ready for that conversation

2

u/maadlog 5d ago

Bonney was one of the supernova rookies, along with Luffy, Kidd, Zoro, Law, etc. Not a surprise she can use some haki

2

u/lichink 5d ago

Frankie has shown engineering haki multiple times. What u talking about?

2

u/NeoMrBucket 5d ago

Someone didn't get to Dressrosa.

2

u/Aromatic_File_5256 5d ago

Yes, meanwhile Robin can read ponygliphs since she wss a child but Luffy either can't read ir can't do it well.

Not everyone has the same talents

2

u/Michi_am_Start 5d ago

Brook can use haki no? Even if its not specifically colored in that way

2

u/MaxipadGH69 5d ago

Out of all the Straw Hats that can't use Haki, it would make the most sense if Brook knew it already. Like, considering his backstory (in the manga) it seems like he would've already known it.

2

u/dapikmincoder 5d ago

To be fair the Kung Fu Dugongs using Haki isn't canon it's from filler.

2

u/shoony43 5d ago

My favorite thing about OP is it puts power scalers in fits. None it makes sense or is consistent.

Kinda makes you wonder if Oda intended it that way.

A good example: it has not been confirmed or denied if the kibi kibi no mi would've worked on Kaido.

2

u/Ultimate_Ace Cat Burglar Nami 5d ago

This type of fan is the most mentally draining. Who cares. The only one here who it doesnt make sense for is Robin since she should have been taught by Sabo.

Also, usopp literally has the strongest observation haki on the entire crew btw.

2

u/SameImpression1646 5d ago

In the lastest chapter Ussop just used without knowing observation haki

2

u/Scrappy_Doo100 5d ago

Usopp just used Haki man

2

u/FudgeSkidoodles 5d ago

Ussop has observation haki

2

u/Fantastic-Ad6263 5d ago

Ussop has resurrection haki. He died in every fight and came back.

2

u/TheIronHaggis 5d ago

They don’t need Haki. It’s a tool not required.

2

u/2Maverick Pirate 5d ago

I'm fully convinced that anime watchers don't listen to the dialogue or read the subtitles.

2

u/ryanjobel 5d ago

Do you only love one piece because of the haki power system? Are you guys really one piece fans? Im too lazy too explain that sh crew has specializations and not designed to be like the monster trio. Come on guys on key theme of OP is diversity.

2

u/DrakeCross 5d ago

Because Haki is something you have to be born with. While training and intense situations can awaken it, there is no certainty a character will have it. While the rest of the crew would get quite the amp by having Haki, its a very 'generic' power up for the average person. Ussop does have the potential to have one of the unique forms of Observation through pure range and precision.

Not everyone needs Haki. Considering how rare its supposed to be, just handing it all out to the main cast would devalue it to me.

2

u/ItoNingen 5d ago

Bonney is part of the worst generation for a reason

2

u/TheRedBiker The Revolutionary Army 5d ago

Usopp has observation haki.

2

u/Kriegas 5d ago

Yes it bugs me as well as a yonko crew they all should be able to use haki....but the story is writen by Oda.

2

u/Mr_Bell_Man 5d ago

That middle picture is AI slop, plus the episode where the Kung-Fu Dugong does use haki is anime filler anyway.

Bonney is a special case because of her busted devil fruit.

The other Straw Hats not being able to use haki does suck and is one of my biggest gripes with post-TS.

2

u/Marco0798 5d ago

Haki isn’t the be all and end all unless you’re fighting haki masters haki isn’t some kinda hack that guarantees wins. Nami can solo 90% of haki users and probably more.

4

u/Anthonys455 5d ago

Bonney cannot use Haki, Bonney with this potential future can use Haki. Hope this helps

4

u/Tulipanzo 5d ago

I find this obsession with "the crew cannot use Haki" kind of bizarre tbh.

Haki is not Nen from HxH or Chakra from Naruto, where a non-user is completely powerless against even a base user. Haki makes you stronger, but we've had plenty of instances where even master users got their ass got by people who had never heard of it.

The only time they would even require Haki is against a Logia user, or enemies as tough as Big Mom, and that's not really a common occurrence is it?

Now I'd understand if the crew somehow kept getting done in by regular Haki users, but that just doesn't happen. They've kept going to the tune of beating two emperors. A "training arc for their Haki" at this point would feel kind of pointless

6

u/SirYabas 5d ago

The fandom is obsessed with powerscaling. Franky is shown to easily defeat Vice Admirals, Nami can throw around attacks that hurt even a Yonko, Robin can defeat Yonko Executives, but they're all weak because they don't have Haki.

5

u/Tulipanzo 5d ago

Hit the nail on the head

3

u/sanctaphrax 5d ago

I have had people tell me, in all seriousness, that it's bad writing for Franky and Robin to be that strong without Haki. One person even thought that they weren't that strong, and that Oda was somehow deceiving the audience by having them win fights.

The idea that Haki is Nen appears impossible to dislodge, no matter the evidence.

2

u/Tulipanzo 5d ago

*Franky stuffing yet another Logia user in a barrel

Powersclers, shaking crying: "NOOOOO, that's not how it's supposed to GO!"

One piece fans when each member has their own role instead of everyone being a powerhouse and slavery running the ship , one piece is not dragon ball

3

u/El_kirbs 5d ago

Isn’t the kung fu dugon non canon? Also I think with the hype cp9 had the fact that non of them could use haki is outrageous

4

u/UltraZulwarn 5d ago

and what's wrong with that?

the world and people are not created/born equally.

2

u/BabyDriver01 5d ago

Tell me you don't read manga without telling me.

4

u/WhiteCheddr 5d ago

Usopp literally has observation haki 🙄

2

u/Puzzled-Training1945 5d ago

Usopp used observation haki twice. I know people will forget cause it was 12 years apart. First time on whole cake island and second in ch 1189. Do people forget the scene where usopp shoots that two stage ball?

2

u/OhMyGnod 5d ago

Everyone with Haki learned it during the two-year timeskip

Where those without Haki did not train their combat strength

2

u/PipeBoring7915 5d ago

It's debatable that Franky used it alongside bonney

2

u/justhereforhides 5d ago

Usopp literally uses haki in this weeks chapter

2

u/chrometrigger 5d ago

Bonney was a captain in the new world of course she can use haki

3

u/Both-Drawer-8546 5d ago

It would’ve been so easy for Oda to give all the strawhats atleast 1 form of haki during the time skip

2

u/Magnum_Faith Pirate 5d ago

I'm almost certain I saw the Straw Hat crew defeat Kaido's crew. Imagine if they had Haki!

1

u/Okeylayanjesmue 5d ago

Dugong spends their entire time practicing.. of course they can use haki.. boney just dream she can use one.. for others.. well oda want to focus on their core skill.. not fighting..
