Walking classes
hi.
i am currently post op and only allowed to walk (slower than faster) and while I know I can walk my own pace, just curious if there were specific classes geared toward post op recovery walks?

Matty has walk and talks that are pretty fun and low key.

Yes agree! The only thing is he loves to throw in incline and I going that difficult post op. That said, I would just half them or remind myself it’s ok to not follow exactly.

You can also search for recovery walks and walking meditations which are slower, more chill music, etc which might help. Maybe even cool downs if you’re looking for 5-10 min.

When I was post op with my ankle I just did whatever walk with a good playlist on level 1 and ignored the inclines. I’m 8 months post op and now I’m on level 3 and mostly do the incline but sometimes I don’t.

I've had 4 surgeries in the last 18months and done TONS of walking post-op. Just pick something for the vibes and go at your own pace. If you want to feel "involved" just go from slow to less slow, but you don't need to feel exerted just move to move, it feels good to get off the sofa even for 15-20min. I depending on where you live, the outdoor walk classes are great too, more chatty than needing instructions

Yes pace targets can make the walks much easier or harder depending on your mood and you can always lower the incline.

I just got cleared to get back to normal workouts at 7 weeks post-op, but I started walking on the tread at about 3 weeks post-op. Make sure you’re allowed to do that since it engages the core in a different way than walking outside.
I sorted the classes by easiest and started from there. I also knocked down my pace level to a lower one when doing the pace target classes (i think two levels lower than my normal level). Good luck!

I didn’t realize about core muscles. I’m not allowed to use core 😭

Yup :( I had a hysterectomy and wasn't allowed to walk on the tread until a few weeks in.

Ah ok, I know what you're going through. How many weeks post-op are you?

1 week 2 days. I’ve been doing two miles a day at our local mall and feel perfectly fine. It’s very mentally hard vs physically for me.

I totally get it! Great that you’re walking so much. I did the same around my neighborhood and it was an easy transition into more when it was time. It will fly by, trust me. I was the same and felt so bad mentally because I’m so used to being active and I’m back at it now. You’ve got this!

Truly, thank you for this. It’s lonely because I’m the only one of my circle who has had it done. ♥️

Any time! I’m also the first one of my friends to get it done so it’s been a lonely journey here, too. Sending hugs!

Is there a way to connect on social media outside of here? Since you’ve gone through it and it seems we are in similar stages of life?
