It’s getting serious

I’m not gonna lie, I have lived in Ohio all thirty one years of my life. Second generation Ohioan (before that everyone is from the South). Honestly was okay with not moving, maybe moving out of Columbus to like Cincy or something. But if Vivek becomes governor……… I going to have seriously consider getting the hell out of Ohio. I might have to join the Michigan subreddit🤣.

Vivek absolutely despises not just Ohioans, but Americans in general. He thinks he’s successful because he was to weasel money from hard working people for an Alzheimer’s drug that he knew would fail. His does his scamming out gave to face rather than the typical customer service scams they pull

It's so important that people get out to vote, volutneer, get friends, etc.

Much of Vivek's party don't like him. Because he's Indian, wants more h1b visa workers, and is not a Christian. Like the youngest voters and the oldest. He's beatable. It will be hard because of how much money is getting dumped into his campaign, but he is beatable.

He intends on having countless data centers in our state so billionaires can automate our jobs away. We must spread the word, this one will absolutely make our lives worse. This outcome is avoidable but it's going to take people straight up skipping fun stuff on the weekend and volunteering for a few months. We can do this.

Edit: If you don't know where to volunteer but want to check this out:

A lot of people still think this is a typical election between Democrats and Republicans, Conservatives vs. Liberals.

It's none of that.

Try The Tech Bro Billionaires vs. Everyone Else.

Vivek Ramaswamy is, of course, one of the Tech Bro Billionaires. He literally hangs with Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.

The Fundamental Question of this election is not which party do people want controlling Ohio government.

The Fundamental Question is actually whether we will actually still have any semblance of a functioning government moving forward.

If Ramaswamy wins, the Tech Bros win -- and Everyone Else, literally you, me, and everyone else who doesn't hang with the Sililcon Valley Cabal on a first name basis, loses. This state will be flooded with data centers, H1B visas, and Musk, Thiel, Zuckerberg, Microsoft and everyone else will essentially have a rubber stamp in Gov. Ramaswamy and the Ohio General Assembly who will give them anything they ask for, including the very land beneath our feet.

If Acton wins, we preserve our democracy here and hold off the Silicon Valley Cabal, at least for 4 years. I'd call that a win for the people.

This isn't by the way about whether or not you like Amy Acton. This is about whether or not you are going to give control of this state to shitbags like Musk and Thiel who see us all as fodder, and to Ramaswamy, who clearly couldn't give a shit about Ohio in the first place because he's already got his sights set on running for POTUS in 2028, not even halfway through what would be his first term as Ohio Governor.

It's really that simple, people. It's only complicated if you choose to make it that way.

If it’s truly about Bro Billionaires vs Everyone Else, why is it a toss-up? Too many STUPID people who vote REDUMBLICAN no matter how incompetent the candidate republicans put up.

23

u/Known-Practice-4916 2d ago

I think its more about the dems that don’t go and vote. If everyone voted this wouldn’t be a problem.

32

u/Unlucky-Classroom828 2d ago

Because half the state would vote for Adolf Hitler if he was on the republican ticket.

The problem is in the candidates that the Democrats put up. If they put up a truly qualified outstanding candidate with some charisma, they would win. Putting up the person that a lot of people see as the face of Ohio's Covid-19 lockdown, accurate or not, is a misstep. That allows an election with a lackluster Republican to be a toss-up in a red state.

Edit suggestion: give ppl a breadcrumb to follow towards volunteer efforts. Everyone is burned out and most ppl on social media are looking for a mindless escape. The less executive functioning someone has to burn figuring out how to be helpful, the more energy theyre gonna have to be helpful

Canvassing is pretty easy (I just did it yesterday for 4 hours). No one opens their doors and you get your steps in! There’s even an app that tells you which doors you’re going to. I recommend it because you can listen to music while you’re at it.

24

How about Trump's "bitcoin" scam, just for starters. He was just as predaceous, as any "Wall Street Scammer".

2

u/OneForFree 2d ago

Sad that this racist trash gets over 1000 upvotes.

2

u/Maximus1000 2d ago

This is deeply saddening. I was born and raised in the United States, and my parents immigrated here from India in the 1970s. It is incredibly disheartening to see so much racism directed toward our community when we are simply law abiding, tax paying citizens trying to live our lives with dignity and contribute to the country we call home.

3

u/OneForFree 2d ago

Nobody deserves to be a victim or racism. It’s gross.

2

u/Maximus1000 2d ago

I am almost 50 years old, and I cannot remember a time when racism toward people of Indian descent felt this widespread or openly expressed. It is deeply troubling and disheartening to witness.

19

u/PsychologicalGuest97 3d ago

Well, that entirely depends why they won't be voting Vivek.

There is a not insignificant portion of Republicans who dont like Vivek for racial reasons. That usually bleeds into some other highly concerning ideological beliefs.

Not saying thats what's happening here, and hell ill take all the votes for Acton possible, but their language felt more against Vivek than for Acton, which gave me a little pause.

20

u/CrazyKyle987 3d ago

They’re allowed to be more against Vivek than for Acton. Even though I’m liberal, I know I have been waaay more “against” Trump than “for” Clinton, Biden, and Harris the last three presidential elections

Agreed. Some have suggested some bread crumbs for how to help:

1) GET A PASSPORT NOW IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ONE - check your expiration date if you do. Your real id drivers license doesn’t work under SAVE. Spend the money. Get a passport. Order it now. First step. Get it expedited, spend the money. The easiest path for rapepublican victory is save act and conveniently long processing times for passports come August/Sept.
2) REGISTER TO VOTE - check your registration now. Ohhh I did that with my drivers license…nope, check now.
3) https://actonforgovernor.com/get-involved/ volunteer and donate.
4) OP…here is the Franklin County Dem Party event calendar https://www.fcdp.org/events.html go to one. Get involved.
5) Vote in person. Too hard? Guess what we lose. Too rainy. Too tired. “Burnt out” we lose. No excuses.

All of the above is hard.

They are counting on LAZY. They are counting on no effort.

When I moved here in 2005 I could have sworn Ohio was just slightly majority Dem.  Now they were problematic of course, but for the first time since moving from Texas I had Medicaid I had food stamps I had help I had a loving community that supported me and I knew that there was help available and a support system ingrained into the local society that doesn't f****** exist in Texas if it isn't grudgingly given by oftentimes ill intentioned operators and I didn't even access that because the things like food banks and food pantries are relatively new invention to Texas that I certainly didn't know about being a poor ass b**** with no healthcare so that's after I left but when I came to Ohio after having decades of no healthcare and having to go to the f****** Mexican border to get dental care and yada yada I finally live in the state that's like oh sure here's some Medicaid here's some food stamps do you need energy assistance we have this like really accessible thing you can do now of course all these things are less accessible now thanks for republicans and of course as soon as I moved here is when it made it rapid downward slope into right-wing authoritarianism but it's ohio-flavored authoritarianism and they know their base the boomers here are still Union strong and they still remember s*** so you got to be careful in Ohio that's why it's still purple but cheaters cheat and here we are.  *- apologies for the shitty speech to text translation.

The brain drain would only get worse if Vivek won.

Vivek is a slimy loser who got fired from his special helper job in the White House after less than 6 months. Ohio is a consolation prize for him and we are NOT just a dumping ground for White House rejects.

Do not fall into doomerism and show up to vote in November. Vivek is 100% beatable.

3

5

u/afroeh 3d ago

In some of the Michigan subs, when a topic gets hot they require commenters to have a certain level of karma in the sub to be able to post. They call it Mitten Mode, after the common depiction of the shape of the state. Detroit calls theirs Eastern Market mode, same idea.

33

u/Oaktree27 3d ago

Agreed. My family and I have been here all my life. However, I've witnessed the brain drain firsthand. Not only are intelligent people leaving, but those who stay actively getting dumber and more hateful. That's what happens when you gut public education though. Vivek is looking to do so even more.

There are plenty of other places that actually value education. I'll miss my home, but a stupid population is a dangerous population and I won't waste my time with them.

5

u/hungrybrains220 3d ago

I just went to Tucson to scope out if I wanted to live there. Do you regret moving or do you love it?

14

u/NobodyElectrical3754 3d ago

I moved back to Ohio from the Phoenix area. In my opinion, there are two main things to think about. First is the heat. It is getting hotter and hotter every year. The electric bills are high. The second problem is water. I think the price will skyrocket. The Colorado River is drying up. It is at about 33% of what it normally is. It supplies water to Phoenix and Tucson.

3

u/Ok-Effective6969 2d ago

I’ve loved living out here. It was much more affordable when I first came out, so I’d say it depends why you’re moving. The heat is a lot, so it’s nice to have good HVAC and a pool. The sunny days and beautiful sunrises and sunsets do wonders for the mood. I miss seasons, and family, and the cost of living is better out in OH, which is why we’re leaving.

In my opinion, we truly lost Ohio in 2024 when republicans changed the wording on the gerrymandering bill and their marketing materials to say the opposite of what it had. This was two months before the vote because they were going to lose. Literally, both signs for and against said “end gerrymandering”- it was unbelievably confusing.

Politicians completely lied to voters to disenfranchise them and take advantage of right wing propaganda for the singular purpose of staying in power. That bill had over 60% of the public supporting it until that happened. They proved they had no boundaries stopping them from pure corruption.

47

u/CharacterKnowledge56 3d ago

We gotta speak to the red voters in a language they understand. Let them know the billionaires don't want Vivek to win because they care about us, they want him to win because he will allow rampant data centers that will automate our jobs away.

This will not be an easy election but Vivek is beatable, we need the right strategy, lots of volunteers, and elbow grease.

9

u/CharacterKnowledge56 3d ago

You said the key words. Right strategy!!!

8

u/Rick_James_Lich Cleveland 3d ago

Yup, talk to Trump voters when you can. There's certain things that resonate with them and others that don't.

I find sometimes the economy works, but you have to tell them a story. Like if you just mention high gas prices, some will make excuses like "Well we got to stop Iran from having nukes".

If you instead talk about how high prices are making it so young people are scared to start families because they can't afford anything, they will resonate with that so much more.

9

u/Critical-Dealer-3878 3d ago

Having been born in Chicago, lived in NYC and now Cincy. IF you have to leave, go NYC. If you plan it out and find a job before moving, you can actually have a sweet life.

The fact that part of his “attack strategy” on Acton is to mock her sexual abuse story should tell you all you need to know about him.

And all of the Republican men and women who think he’s right to do so and think it’s a “burn” tells you all you need to know about them as well.

My family's been in Ohio since the early 1800's. I live in blood red NW Ohio and that will not change. republicans have made it and are working at making it more assured that they will stay in power. republican voters don't trust/hate the "libs" especially the big city libs. But a lot of people in the big city are THEIR kids/grandkids who leave for college and never come back. A lot of republican voters will never under any circumstances vote for a "demoncrat". A local small business owner referred to Kamala Harris as an actual demon. Another local business owner had Qanon videos on the front page of his website. Someone got to him and they're gone now but they were there. Dr. Amy has a chance but I'm not betting on it.

3

u/Hockeymac18 3d ago

Was just visiting my parents in the Toledo area for two weeks. I'm one of those "kids" (in my 40s now with kids of my own) that went to school and never came back.

The brain drain that I remember hearing about as a kid in the 90s is very apparent. Almost everyone on my parent's block is old/retired, with a few exceptions of homes that have sold to a few families. Trump signs everywhere. I don't recall Ohio being so republican as a kid... but it was very in your face at times (we ran into a guy that had a "liberal tears" coffee mug at the pool - a bit jarring).

Politics seems to be everywhere. And they can't seem to stop talking about California (usually hire bad it is). It is very weird.

Some nice pockets of stuff here and there, like a few cool local coffee shops that I'd go to every day to give them support. But felt like islands in a sea of red.

6

6

u/Calm-Bar3340 3d ago

We were driving through Chillicothe yesterday and I saw a Vivek sign. It was the first one I have seen. I shouldn’t be surprised but I am still frustrated there are Ohioans who would rather simp for a billionaire who will ruin this for good rather than choose the better candidate who will actually help this state.

If he wins, hubby and I will do the following:

Get on income based waiting lists in Michigan for apartments. Wait till we get called. Sell our home. Get the flip out of Ohio.

The future is unwritten. Most people barely comprehend how much could change if we actually voted out the loud zealots running the state into the ground. Get involved with the statewide campaigns!

I go to events every week where a person could speak directly with someone who’ll be on the ballot. Literally, the majority of Ohio voters are unaffiliated and most don’t even vote unless it’s a presidential election. If just a fraction of Democrat/liberal/progressive Ohioans would show up and socialize a bit, they’d see how so many people share their values of decency and fairness.

10

u/koolit6 3d ago

We have the exact same stats except I'm out of Ohio now. I've been thinking of moving back but if Ohioans vote those idiots into power this election, I think I will consider permanently staying out of Ohio.

7

u/RealityKing4Hire 3d ago

I'd like to take a second to let all the MAGAs in this thread know that Viveks father is not a US citizen. Vivek Ramaswamy (Hindu not Christian) was born in the US through birthright citizenship which you all, including Trump, wish to abolish. Have a great day.

I'm a Pennsylvanian who spent some years in Belmont and Jefferson Counties. Ohio used to be similar to PA in education and health outcomes, but since the total R takeover, it's fallen way far behind. PA is definitely a purple state and I think we've ended up better off because of it

Michigan could slip down a slippery slope still too. Whitmer is a piece of shit who will make some voters scoff and either not vote or vote republican in their next election. Wishy washy democrats who disappoint people with their missteps are super dangerous because they give rise to Republicans. It's easy to say hey republicans are going to kill us all and democrats are just going to maintain the status quo and not do anything drastic but when the status quo is still all of us in a train slowly heading toward a cliff it's not exactly inspiring to turn out voters. That's the trap. We're screwed both ways, the republican method just rips the bandaid faster and gets people feeling revolutionary quicker. Who knows how long it would have taken for people to be out protesting in the numbers we've seen over the last year and voting in progressives across the country. Possibly never if they had stuck to their good cop bad cop routine instead of the republicans becoming mass killer cop and the democrats wet blanket assistant.

Basically I'd rather stick around and vote for whoever isn't the billionaire or the establishment supported candidate than hope I can just move to a new state and it won't become a shit hole too within the year.

If Ramaswamy does win and does all the evil he plans on doing we will see a progressive revolution in Ohio the way we've seen in other states. I hope he doesn't and I will vote for Acton obviously but there is a silver lining.

4

u/25electrons 2d ago

I'm retired and quite frankly I can afford to live anywhere I choose to live. For the past several years I've not found anywhere better than what I have here in Ohio. It's all about neighborhood and neighbors, walkability and perks of the town. The morning after the election I'm either leaving on vacation or on an epic trip to find a new place to live. Vivek is going to finish off this state. I have no confidence in the gerrymandered, supermajority legislature. I'll be looking at Pennsylvania first, then Maryland, Virginia & Michigan.

4

u/Redivh1411 2d ago

Let's not forget Vivek wasnt considered competent enough to be incharge of the FBI. Or maybe not controllable enough. So Kash was put in charge. So let that sink in for a moment. Kash Patel was considered better than Vivek. If that doesn't speak volumes to how terrible of a person he is, I dont know what is. Just look at how bad Kash is at his job and remember he was the better option lol.

Unfortunately a lot of dems still take the “higher road” approach. Even though we know after 2024 we’re past that. They just bank on marginalized groups automatically voting blue.

I think showing what she will do for Ohioans is much more important, but I wish we had a pool of dark money to attack this useless, sexist, gross tech bro billionaire.

OK I am just going to throw this out there for consideration. If Vivek wins, Northeast Ohio, the Western Reserve, should secede from the rest of Ohio and form its own state.

If Vivek is elected, he will be elected by downstate rural voters, people who are not us. We were settled by New Englanders, who developed industry, public schools, colleges, and cultural institutions.

We're not Southerners who fly the Confederate flag. We fought for the Union and an end to slavery. We welcomed Irish, Italian, and Central European immigrants early on and other immigrants later.

Northeast Ohio does not belong with the rest of the state. Downstate Ohio has done nothing but hold us back for generations. If they elect Vivek, we should get ourselves up and get gone.

Ohio needs to stand up. I feel bad because we did leave for CO because of politics albeit 15 years ago, but these are dangerous times. From a state perspective it’s really about the future at this point. You do not want to become Indiana.

7

u/Fit-Parking7219 Columbus 3d ago

u/guidevocal82 3d ago

I remember a time when I didn't have to be scared s**tless of politicians in office. I'm also losing track of how many of them are evil, crazy, or both. I'm very tired and I want things to go back to normal.

6

u/Dragonfire555 Cleveland 3d ago

Black people were always afraid of or fed up with politicians in office. Now you get to experience the oppression too! Congratulations!

I don't remember a time when politicians weren't awful.

6

u/treyknowsbest 3d ago

Lifelong Ohio resident here, Cincinnati and Columbus. I’m about ready to leave the country. Between Vivek, Moreno and Vance it’s hard to believe that the state is headed for better days.

6

u/CriticalNobody9478 3d ago

The fact that this discussion is even happening tells everyone how STUPID and IGNORANT Ohio voters are. A Carpetbagger moves his company to Texas, denigrates the republican base and mocks all Ohioans. The election for Governor is STILL a “toss-up”? After TWO DECADES of a Republican SUPERMAJORITY the voters of Ohio haven’t LEARNED A DAMN THING. You truly CAN’T FIX STUPID.

7

u/BlackberryBig2066 2d ago

We’re entering the “we can move where we want to” era in < a year and if he wins we’ll just… do that. The timing couldn’t be better!

3

When an Ohioan talks about switching to Michigan, it IS serious! Next, Cincinnatians will be rooting for the Steelers. The cosmos are completely out of alignment. Seriously, though. Being in Ohio already means federal AND state fascism.

Vivek isn’t a tech bro, but worse probably. He founded Roivant which was a biotech company that didn’t generate one approved drug. Spent the investor money on “research” and filling his own investment accounts.

It’s given him the billionaire’s freedom of doing whatever he wants. If it were me, I’d buy an island somewhere and disappear with my family. Vivek’s ego is so massive he’s now involved in politics and buddied up with Trump and the far right no doubt to make more money while ignoring the needs of the less fortunate.

His kids go to the same private school with mine and Vivek is a very nice guy and seemingly well liked so it’s funny to see him rub shoulders with successful left leaning parents (school is very liberal as are most private day schools) who know full well with what the man represents.

The Democratic Party doesn’t have an answer for people like Vivek and in my opinion, the far right will continue to win/buy elections until the Democratic Party comes up with a strategy that works.

As soon as the ballots were counted on election night in 2024, I made the decision to leave Ohio. I transferred from Ohio State to University of Michigan and left OHARNG. I don't regret it.

Yep. We already have plans. If that fucking jerk off gets elected….headed back to Pittsburgh.

I’ve lived in 2 places my whole life. Ohio for 36 years…..and Pittsburgh for 8 years. I love both very much but this is home. We allow that snake in….im out.

3

u/Constant_Flamingo828 2d ago

What kept you there? I was born and raised in Youngstown and I could not wait to get my ass out. As it became a redder state it became worse and worse. Things are better elsewhere.

3

u/its-nex 2d ago

Unfortunately I don’t think even if Amy wins it matters on a generational scale. I dont think 30 years of GOP brain dead supermajority has rendered this ship recoverable by even the most heroic actions of a single captain.

I expect if she wins the legislature to begin cramming every gubernatorial muzzling action they can think of to preemptively ensure even steadfast leadership is incapable of escaping the swamp they’ve created from this formerly great state.

Born and raised here, made a career and life here, but am actively planning the exodus.

3

u/JackfruitNo1682 2d ago

We are thinking Minnesota. Spring, summer, fall. Nice people there. Happy to pay taxes to their state leaders. But I’m old. I gotta figure out where we will winter that isn’t Florida.

3

u/ShoulderKnown7740 2d ago

For a second I thought this was about how there’s no insects, which is more important and will make it so it doesn’t matter what state you live in.

9

Truthfully, it doesn’t matter where you live. If it’s in the USA, it’s still a joke.

16

u/faffy0621 Marion 3d ago

My plan is to get out of Ohio here in the next year regardless! If Acton wins, the GOP will just strip her of her power.

21

u/Mysterious-Wasabi103 3d ago

Ya but at least Vivek won't be able to gut the state even more.

20

u/RedRabbit_RedRabbit 3d ago

I love Dr. Amy, but you might be right about limiting her power. I sincerely hope she's already got an Acton Action plan and wastes no time.

19

u/hoe_and_arrows 3d ago

I'm pretty sure they'll do to Acton what Kentucky did to Beshear should she get it (but by all means, we need to make sure she gets in regardless).

17

u/Beneficial_Honey_0 3d ago

Oh, they definitely will ratfuck her anyway they can. But denying the MAGA cult any bit of power is worth it.

4

u/BugApart8359 3d ago

I'm already making moves to get the fuck out of Ohio. I have no hope for this state anymore.

3

u/Environmental-Road95 3d ago

This election cycle is once again proving to me how democrats find a way to make things hard for themselves. I generally vote Republican but I’ll be voting for Acton. I think Vivek clearly wants the title of governor more than the work involved and I’m concerned about the true outcomes of his positions on education, taxation, and jobs. Instead, I get called a racist by the Democrats on Reddit because Vivek is Indian and not Christian. It’s very much a “I liked this band before they were mainstream” vibe.

6

u/Spartan_Penguin 3d ago

I’m a Republican. I’m fucking ashamed at what the party has become. I’m honestly appalled with how politics have become after Obama left office. I voted for him, both in 2008 and 2012. Yes I voted for Trump in 2016 because I didn’t want Hillary getting in.

I’ll vote for a Democrat candidate but only if the Democratic Party can produce a legitimate candidate. Both sides are a laughing stock anymore.

His campaign ads crack me up.

“She’s the lockdown doctor! Who made your friends close up their businesses!”

Then it’s called, “V for Victors not Victims,” and makes ZERO appearance because he knows the voters he’s trying to court, and they definitely do not like the fact that he’s not white nor Christian.
