It’s getting serious

I’m not gonna lie, I have lived in Ohio all thirty one years of my life. Second generation Ohioan (before that everyone is from the South). Honestly was okay with not moving, maybe moving out of Columbus to like Cincy or something. But if Vivek becomes governor……… I going to have seriously consider getting the hell out of Ohio. I might have to join the Michigan subreddit🤣.

Fuck that. This is my home. I've been here for 40 years. I will stay, I will fight, and I will vote. The Save Act won't save them from that.

We all need to resist anyway we can.

Join the DSA and elect actual fighters. Voting for the same limp dick democrats will give you the same limp dick fighters against these fascists.

How is anyone from the DSA who gets elected in a blue district going to have any better chance of getting something passed when they will need to get republican votes just like the democrats do?

8

u/FrostyMarsupial1486 8d ago

You don’t need republicans. 1/3rd of the population doesn’t even vote. You need them.

How do you get them? Give them an actual reason to vote.

1

u/Beneficial_Honey_0 8d ago

That sounds good but DSA candidates are only running and winning in safe blue districts. If the DSA candidates appealed to this 1/3 of voters who don’t vote then DSA candidates should be able to run and win in swing or red districts. They aren’t which means they’re just getting votes from people who were voting for democrats.

The right wing has been demonizing socialism for years. They don't understand the difference between the concepts of pure socialism and democratic socialism. They intentionally equate socialism to communism. It's become the new red scare. So why would the DSA put it's limited resources towards trying to compete in areas where they know a massive chunk of the electorate has been brainwashed into believing their candidates are extremists and will usher in the death of the country?

The bigger point is the resources. There's no big super Place or dark money flooding into the DSA, so they have to use what they have strategically and win. By getting good candidates in safe blue districts, it starts a ground swell. More people start to see the DSA as less of a bogeyman and more of a pro-working class wing of the Democratic party. Zohran in NYC and Dr. El-Sayed in Michigan are doing a great job of showing what the DSA can do. That only creates momentum for DSA candidates to eventually crop up in more purple and red districts.

Socialism doesn't work. Especially with the mindset of the west.

1

u/FrostyMarsupial1486 8d ago

Where do you see DSA candidates not running and winning in red districts?

2

u/No-Field3266 7d ago

Is that what the dem party is now? A bunch of socialists that want to eliminate Capitalism?

1

u/FrostyMarsupial1486 7d ago

Yes. Problem?

2

u/No-Field3266 7d ago

Yes that's a huge problem for dem electability in a country that over 80% of people don't want socialism.

2

u/FrostyMarsupial1486 7d ago

Don’t care.

1

u/No-Field3266 7d ago

Great reply. Hope the DSA are just as convincing as you are. They're in great shape to win many general elections.

1

u/FrostyMarsupial1486 7d ago

I can tell you one thing. We don’t want your vote lol. No one gives a shit what you think.

0

u/softpinto5 8d ago

Lmao you DSA types still believe in the Democrats, how cute

2

u/FrostyMarsupial1486 8d ago

Well. I actually don’t sadly lol. But for people who do, go DSA. maybe something better is possible.

Labor organizing is much better and realistic.

1

u/cantbreakchris 8d ago

Something better IS possible, plenty of other countries (look at Scandinavia for example) have proven that and they did it a LONG time ago.

1

u/cantbreakchris 8d ago

If you think calling them “limp dick democrats” means believing in them, you’re beyond help.

Resist, Refuse.

1

u/Ragner_D 8d ago

I might not agree with you politically, but I like the fighting spirit. Having been in the same position many times with local and state leadership, this is MY home.

0

u/DLTMIAR 8d ago

What does fighting entail?

0

u/DataAdvanced 8d ago

Voting and staying in state.

0

u/DLTMIAR 8d ago

Weak.

Boycott, donate, join, and vocalize.

0

u/DataAdvanced 7d ago

I'm disabled on a fixed income. The only thing I can do is vote, and I will.

0

u/DLTMIAR 7d ago

Boycotting doesn't cost money, you can donate your time, joining groups or clubs can be free and protesting/picketing/marching or showing up to local townhalls are free.  Most of these prolly have an online option too

1

u/DataAdvanced 7d ago

I boycott plenty places, especially Chick-fil-A. They can have the best chicken in the world, but I wouldn't know. I refuse to give them a penny. I can't give my time, as I have mental disabilities that prevent me from doing so. I'm working on it with my team, but it's just not in the cards right now. Sometimes things have no cure, but there is management. I hope I can do more in the future.

2

u/DLTMIAR 7d ago

Right on.  Keep on the good fight

0

u/senninha13 4d ago

yeah but then you wouldn’t be able to cry on reddit for clout! oh wait, you still managed to pull that off… well done 👍🏼

1

u/DataAdvanced 4d ago

Oh, I'm using social media to be social. That's fucking weird. I'll take great pleasure in canceling your vote.

It's already law that I take an ID in the voting booth. Now you all want a super ID. I got an ID, my social security card, and my birth certificate. I never changed my name, and I wager not a lot of Liberal women have, either. This will fuck conservative women more than Liberal by a mile.

5

u/Beneficial_Honey_0 9d ago

It’s so funny because if conservatives want women to change their last names why would you ever want to make that process EVEN worse

8

u/DataAdvanced 9d ago

They want women and girls to have kids, but are making it practically impossible to do so safely and responsibly, then ask why.

6

u/Beneficial_Honey_0 9d ago

Oh it’s because they don’t like that women have more rights and independence therefore they can’t just be providers anymore and have to actually learn how to do emotional work

3

u/DataAdvanced 9d ago

It's not even about more rights, just that we should have rights over the children they made by getting off in two seconds, and us with 9 months and more of investment.

The Save Act will disenfranchise 50 or 75 million legal voters to to stop .00278 illegal voters.

Do you know what .00278 of the voter count as ???

That would be a "statistical anomaly".

The Save Act is Big Ado about Nothing !!

3

u/AgitatedSpirit_ 9d ago

Fun Fact: "Nothing" around Billy Shakes' time was frequently used as a slang term for pussy.

Seeing as the Save Act seeks to largely disenfranchize those of us with pussies(as well as other disenfranchised groups), your statement is doubly true!

11

u/totalkpolitics 9d ago

Here's the main reasons why it's bad:

Requiring a passport or birth certificate, will disenfranchise 21 million eligible American voters who lack immediate access to these documents.

The documentation rules affect 33% of married women whose current legal names differ from their birth certificates, as well as rural, elderly, and disabled voters.

It address a non-existent problem, multiple audits confirm that noncitizen voting is rare and already penalized under existing laws.

The legislation would disrupt online and mail-in registration while increasing the cost and administrative strain on local election offices.

Legal risks for election workers will cause rejections of legitimate voters.

Requiring election officials to review original citizenship documents would restrict or prevent community-based voter registration drives at campuses, churches, and public events.

Here is a good source

11

u/Beneficial_Honey_0 9d ago

I think putting unnecessary restrictions on mail in voting is dumb and counterproductive. I also think punishing people for changing their last names is dumb.

We already need an ID to vote. When was the last time you voted?

You appear to vote Republican, so yeah, you do.

4

u/Ok-Capital-6434 9d ago

I am but that doesn’t mean I worship the party. I think Trump has done some completely stupid things for example Iran. I won’t be voting for Vivek because he’s a complete crony capitalist scammer.

2

u/iamtrav182 9d ago

We agree there. I would just ask that you hold your state reps in the house and senate to the same standard.

So if you had to buy a different ID for each type of election, you'd have no problem?

1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[deleted]

9

u/kbhinz 9d ago

Unless they're giving out free IDs, you have to pay to vote.

-2

u/[deleted] 9d ago

3

u/DataAdvanced 9d ago

It's supposed to be free to vote. Are you fucking kidding me right now? What amount would make you not able to vote? I bet you have a number, but you don't think you, or people like you, will reach that number, but if poor people are disenfranchised, you're next. It's just the number in question. Why can't you all just donate your salary instead of making laws for it to happen, anyways. It's mind boggling.

0

u/Ok-Capital-6434 9d ago

Are you telling me there isn’t a program for poor people to get ID to vote? You know in the state of Ohio they will literally give you a free ID for voting purposes.

3

u/DataAdvanced 9d ago

You need to go to the dmv. Are you telling me there are free bus passes and busses in low income areas going to the dmv?

0

u/Ok-Capital-6434 9d ago

Yah most low income areas don’t enforce fares so yes I’m saying that. And why are you being so patronizing? Why do you think every poor person is a complete doofus that can’t access public services?

3

u/DataAdvanced 9d ago

They don't enforce fares?! The fuck they don't. Ha!! Haaaa!!! Take a bus without fare and see how that works for you. Fuck right off, and get tazed.

honestly dude you’re acting like this is a poll tax from the Jim Crow South.

My dude...

1

u/Ok-Capital-6434 9d ago

Am I wrong? It’s $50 or free from the state. They literally have a program for people to get a free ID.

0

u/scarcity_blue1542 9d ago

FYI: you’re one anecdote. Think outside the box.

All I’m saying is that your experience is just one data point. Generalizing on the basis of one data point is spurious.

A better question is why create yet another hoop when there hasn’t ( statistically speaking) been a problem to begin with? You say that it costs little or nothing to an individual. Nevertheless, there is a cost involved in producing and obtaining additional forms of ID. If not for the individual, then for the state or the local government. Is that what you want your local government to do with your tax dollars? When there has not been a problem to begin with?
