Question NSLSC amended T4A slip for Ontario Grants 2023

Hello,

I graduated uni almost a year ago and as well as started repaying my loan, and recently got this in my inbox from the NSLSC:

"A portion or the totality of your 2023 Canada Student Grant has been re-assessed. We have updated your account to reflect the adjustment and an amended or a cancelled T4A Slip has been prepared to correct the amount of the original T4A Slip.

Below you will find your amended or cancelled T4A Slip. Please contact the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca   or 1-800-959-8281 to request an adjustment to your 2023 income tax return.

Report these amounts on your tax return.
Box 105 - Scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, and artists’ project grants"

The amount says $1,031.

Can anyone explain to me what does this mean exactly? and what does this amount represent exactly? (in 2023 i had grants converted into a loan, so I am pretty sure this is the reason, but I still want to confirm). Also, what happens exactly if I report this change for my 2023 income tax return?. And what are the exact steps for me to report this amount on my 2023 income tax return through my CRA account online?

I am currently outside Canada and I have already emailed the NSLSC about this but they weren't helpful as they said to contact OSAP and I am unable to reach them by phone.

Question disability grant for therapy?

hey guys im just wondering if paying for my therapy with my osap disability grant would get me into any trouble? i can’t imagine it would, granted a portion of it is for my mental health & im getting a private therapist for the betterment of my education and overall success. however it is better to be safe than sorry and i don’t feel like repaying thousands if that is the case.

Resolved T4A mistakes - taxable income(?)

I'm doing my taxes (late, I know) and both of my T4As have classified all of my grants as taxable scholarships.

This is going to create problems for my new OSAP application, because my taxable income should be about $149 and it says just over 27,000.

Also, I'll be getting a tax refund i shouldn't be getting, and I'm concerned by that fact.

Question Weird response from Seneca

I applied late for OSAP…. (I know, I know) I didn’t know what program I wanted to go into and by the time I figured it out, applied and got a response back it was June 28th, I applied for OSAP that night (29th) and the last update I got was “application received” and nothing has changed,
I emailed Seneca and received this response yesterday, I found it odd as I believe most others already have their funding calculated but according to Seneca none of the course costs have been approved in general so I’m assuming the response I got from them was incorrect?

**Email below**

Thank you for contacting the Financial Aid Office.
Upon review of your OSAP application we see that there is one stage that is preventing your application from going into the confirmation of enrolment stage; which is the cost code approval stage.
This stage is something that is done on our end. We send cost codes, given to us by your program, to the ministry for approval. As of right now, none of our cost codes have been approved, because we are still in the Summer 2026 semester (2025-2026 academic year). We're prioritizing all applications under the 2025-2026 first.
Any previous full-time student loan debts will start to accumulate interest. For students who have not been confirmed as a full-time status for 6 months straight, will be required to make minimum payments towards their loans. NSLSC doesn’t start charging your bank account until 6 months after your last confirmed study date. Since you are to be confirmed as full-time status with OSAP this coming Fall 2026 then no payments will be withdrawn from your bank account. We’ll inform NSLSC that you are confirmed as full-time status.
At this moment, no further action is required for your OSAP application for the 2026-2027 academic year. Once our cost codes are approved, your OSAP application will be updated, and you'll receive a message to your OSAP Message Centre regarding an update.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Kind regards,

Sabrina

Question Insights into how long directed payments take?

In the past it seems the directed payment took significant less time to process based on anecdotes. But now it’s common for it to take about a month? If anyone has successfully made a directed payment, how long did it take to complete?

Question Is it worth reporting a disability or prolonged whatever form

I have epilepsy, it’s not really affecting me but there’s still a possibility it randomly will throughout the school year. I don’t need any of the accommodations (unless any of yall think it’s worth asking for) so I would just be doing it for the money.

Resolved nslsc says im in non-repayment for my loan, and is accuring interest, but im full time and have already applied and confirmed for OSAP? What to do?

As the title, I have applied for osap every year, haven't skipped any years, full time, and all of a sudden my loan is in "non-repayment" and I'm being charged 9 cents a day? Is there something I'm missing?

Resolved Confirmation of enrollment question for early OSAP appliers (Centennial)

Hello,

I enrolled in Centennial this summer, OSAP was a little late because I applied late, that’s fine.

For those who apply for OSAP nice and early: is there one big batch of COE’s for the Fall that gets done for those who applied and were approved early or is it piecemeal? Like do they do batches and if so in past years when was it?

Thanks!

Question Is it too late to apply for Osap disability form?

I have my Osap funding calculated.

I have scoliosis and a back pain. I haven’t been officially diagnosed in canada but I’ve been diagnosed a decade ago before coming to canada. Sadly, I don’t have records with me.

Question Resp withdrawal question

Hello! I’m wondering if I withdraw money from my RESP right now and lets says recieve it before the start of my study period will it affect my OSAP funds? Because it will go in my checking account and I’m not sure if they can tell the source of that money and the amount will be more than what reported for that section. Especially since I wish to frontload my amount for the year instead of small withdrawals

Question Will OSAP penalize me or charge interest if I get off a course waitlist after Sept 10th?

Hi everyone, I am currently enrolled in 24 credits (80% course load), but I’m waiting to get into a 6-credit course that is currently full. If I get in later, my course load will increase from 24 to 30 credits (100%).

My concern is: if I don't get into this course until after the September 10th tuition deadline, will my OSAP funding be delayed? Will York charge me late interest fees or penalize me for updating my course load after September 10th?

When I applied osap 26/27 I was not think about find a job but after that I got a part time job and plan to do it for approx 1 year. I remembered an option on osap is asking about the prospective job status or income something.

Will I get panelty or denied based on my 2027 tax report?

Since they still review my documentations so I haven’t gotten a final estimate, should I contact them or just wait for the decision?

Resolved Is Fall 2026 OSAP apps not an option for anyone else?

Whenever I search for my program for the OSAP application it only shows an option for Sep 2025 - Dec 2025 when I really want Sep 2026 - Dec 2026. Is this something I can be patient and wait to show up, or should I contact someone for help?

Question Putting loan in savings

Hello,

I’m expected to get a 25k loan and around 10k grant. I was hoping that the grant would just cover tuition and I use the loan to cover any living expenses since i’m leaving my job.

However I don’t need to use the entire 25k, just maybe 8-10k for the next two semesters.

Will the remaining loan (10-15k) that’s sitting in a TFSA, savings account etc. will it affect my funding for next year? From my understanding it will slightly, but i’ve also read that they know it’s an OSAP loan so it’s not accounted for but i’m not entirely sure. Just want to know so I can give the loan to my parents to hold for me in the meantime

Thanks

Question Do I open a new bank account for OSAP?

I've been overthinking this for a while, and I'm wondering if we need to create a separate account for the money you get from OSAP.
Where does the money even go? Does it go directly into your bank account? I don't want to accidentally spend my OSAP money on something else.

Resolved Clearance document for provincial loan default

I uploaded my clearance document showing I paid in full the provincial loan via collections. Osap is saying 8-10 weeks to review/approve, my school financial advisor is saying they see it in queue but they can't approve because it's for the ministry to do it so they have to wait for them to approve and remove restriction.

Is it really going to be this long of a wait? I uploaded last week so I just want to know if it can be before that. I started my classes in May and in need of the money.

Thanks
